I believe that healing is not a solitary act; it is deeply influenced by the world around us. As a WICS (Webster Institute for Clinical Scholarship) alum, I specialize in the Ecological Model of Counseling, looking at the "whole system" of your life, from your relationships and social environment to your sleep, nutrition, and nervous system health. Rooted in Polyvagal Theory and Somatic Experiencing, my approach goes beyond talk therapy to understand how your nervous system adapted to survive. By integrating Affect Phobia therapy, we'll explore the "fear of feeling" that keeps you stuck. Together, we’ll resolve maladaptive patterns and build the adaptive skills you need to move forward with confidence. I believe that all people are capable of change and have the ability within themselves to resolve their own problems, sometimes we just need a bit of assistance to unlock that potential. If you are looking for a holistic, strengths-based partner in your mental health journey, I am here to walk that path with you.

When you have spent much of your life adapting to survive, starting therapy can feel overwhelming. I believe healing begins in spaces where people feel emotionally safe, understood, and genuinely accepted. I specialize in working with adults (18+) healing from PTSD, complex trauma, and attachment wounds, helping them better understand how past experiences continue to shape their emotions, relationships, nervous system responses, and sense of self. I am especially passionate about supporting the LGBTQIA2S+ community, healthcare workers, survivors of trauma and relational violence, veterans, and military families. My approach to therapy is both trauma-informed and trauma-focused, integrating EMDR, parts work, DBT, and somatic approaches for deeper healing and recovery. I believe growth involves learning to create healthy boundaries, regulate the nervous system, increase self-awareness, reconnect with values, and move toward greater empowerment and self-trust. This approach creates a therapeutic space that supports lasting change, not by “fixing” who you are, but by helping you better understand and connect with yourself.

I’m Kristen Ratican, a licensed therapist offering counseling in St. Louis, MO and virtually throughout Missouri. Speak Now Counseling is my private practice, created to offer a relational and thoughtful space for reflection and growth. I’m drawn to working with clients who want to better understand themselves, their emotions, and the patterns shaping their lives. Many of us develop deeply ingrained patterns that once helped us cope but no longer support the life or relationships we want. You may notice yourself feeling stuck, repeating the same thoughts, emotions, or behaviors despite your best efforts to change. Whether this shows up in your personal relationships, or relationship with yourself, therapy with me can help bring clarity, insight, and lasting growth. I have experience supporting individuals and couples through a wide range of concerns, including ADHD, anxiety, autism, depression, grief and loss, trauma, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and school or work-related stress.. My therapeutic approach is attachment-based, trauma-informed, and psychodynamic, grounded in the belief that you are the expert of your own lived experience. Together, we will identify patterns, define your goals, and move toward greater self-awareness and self-compassion. Many of the people I work with have spent a long time holding things together quietly, competently, and often alone. Therapy is a place where you don’t have to edit yourself or find the perfect words. You can show up as you are, and we can begin to make sense of your story together.
