Therapists for college students near The Gate District, St. Louis, MO
My passion has always been treating eating disorders and the underlying causes such as depression and anxiety. I have worked with college athletes and the demands and pressures associated with being a student athlete. I believe full recovery from an eating disorder is possible and I am passionate about working with clients to achieve that desired result. Another clinical passion and area of focus has been assisting with identity development and navigating life transitions such as going to a new school, graduation and other life stressors. I understand the complexity of these milestones and seek to provide a process for support and discovery. I seek to eliminate the suffering in silence and allow time for working through the process of loss and grief around what once was and guide individuals in exploring what can be achieved.

Living with anxiety or OCD means constantly battling fear and worry, with intrusive thoughts often taking control. There’s a deep desire to avoid mistakes and failure, or a compulsive need to complete tasks that your mind deems necessary to prevent a feared outcome. It can feel impossible to be comfortable or confident in yourself and your abilities. There's an overwhelming drive for perfection—whether in daily routines, schoolwork, social life, or your job. Peace and self-acceptance often feel out of reach, and the more you try to regain control, the more trapped and anxious you may become. There is hope in breaking this cycle. I specialize in Anxiety Disorders, Panic Disorder, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). I also incorporate a trauma-focused lens to process traumatic events and grief. Anxiety Disorders and OCD interfere with your quality of life and ability to live in the present moment. My goal is to bring you much needed relief, tools to recover, and hope and support that your anxiety or OCD do not have to control your life. Together, we can help you break free of these cycles and reclaim your life.
Dr. Jeremy Shuman is a licensed psychologist at The Center for Mindfulness & CBT and has been providing outpatient psychotherapy for over 13 years. He is an area expert in the treatment of OCD and anxiety disorders and provides consultation and training across the country on the intersection of Autism and OCD. The focus of Jeremy’s practice is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), prolonged exposure therapies for anxiety disorders, and metacognitive therapies. Areas of specialty include OCD, Autism/ADHD, panic attacks, health anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, insomnia, and distress related to tinnitus. Jeremy has particular specialty in treating OCD in Autistic clients, and has a track record of new progress with treatment resistant clients discharged unsuccessfully from higher levels of care. As a secondary niche, Jeremy also provides general counseling for stress, mood, family, and interpersonal difficulties for high achieving individuals (i.e. professionals in academia, medicine, law, engineering, finance, and tech). Common themes include overthinking, anger management, feelings of alienation from others, perfectionism, sleep improvement, boundary setting, parenting, work/life balance, assertiveness, and existential questioning. Jeremy is trained in ERP through IOCDF, graduated from the Behavior Therapy Training Institute, and is a consultant for I-CBT. He is a leader within the neurodiversity movement in conceptualizing the intersection of Autism and OCD. He regularly engages in ongoing consultation with national experts, and attends national conferences both to learn and present. Jeremy is an advocate for social justice, practices therapy from an LGBTQ+ affirmative stance, and continually engages with anti-racist training and self-study. Jeremy self-identifies as neurodivergent and practices neurodiversity-affirming therapy. He intentionally orients treatment to the stress arising from being neurodivergent in a culture that lacks acceptance of neurodiversity, rather than pathologizing the wide range of neurological differences distributed through humanity. He understands the role of intersectionality in personal experience with identity. Jeremy keeps a limited caseload of individual therapy clients and takes new clients sporadically based on availability. Hours are Monday through Friday 10AM to 5PM. Jeremy is no longer in network with any insurance plans. Superbills can be provided for out of network reimbursement in some cases. Self-pay rates are $250 for an initial one hour consultation and $200 for each 50 minute follow up session. New clients must be 18 years old or older. Even when closed to new clients, Jeremy can sometimes provide one session consultations with clients or families for help with conceptualization and treatment planning.

I’m Rashida Dinehart, a student clinician currently pursuing my Master of Social Work at Saint Louis University. Rooted in both lived experience and academic training, I bring a compassionate, grief-informed lens to my work. As a student therapist, I support children, teens, and families navigating complex grief, trauma, and life transitions—especially those impacted by loss, ADHD, and disrupted caregiving. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in each client’s unique story. I believe healing happens in relationship, and I’m honored to walk alongside clients as they make meaning and find hope in the midst of pain.
Self-discovery, self-identity, self-expression, and life transitions can be scary to navigate alone; sometimes, a safe space to explore and an opportunity to imagine something different for ourselves is all we need. I typically work with pre-teens, teens, and young adults who fall under the umbrellas of LGBTQIA+ and Neurodivergence. I have experience in child and adolescent development, family dynamics, & children with ADHD and Autism. I value the therapeutic relationship; I place importance on meeting clients where they are at and approach the therapeutic process with the understanding that each individual is an expert in their own life. I use aspects from Strengths-Based, DBT, CBT, Solution-Focused, Person-Centered, & Mindfulness, Play & Art Therapy, Somatic Healing techniques, & IFS. I believe in the importance of affirming spaces that allow all humans to feel human and live authentically as themselves. I am a big advocate for genuine, honest self-expression and take pride in uplifting others as they learn to love all of their parts. I often enjoy incorporating humor, art and the client’s special interests into sessions when appropriate.
As a therapist, I use my background in art and psychology to help you explore your thoughts and emotions on a deeper level. Through my direct, honest and compassionate approach, I go on a journey with the client to uncover the root of their current struggles and to develop adaptive coping skills. I treat adolescents and adults suffering from a mental illness. My background is treating primarily eating disorders, trauma, dissociation, self injury, anxiety and depression. I am a registered art therapist, licensed professional counselor, and a certified eating disorder specialist and supervisor. My treatment approach is a combination of attachment-based theories, trauma focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, along with the use of expressive therapies.
I help my clients become more confident, contented, and true to themselves, while decreasing unhelpful approaches like worry, inaction, bottling emotions, people-pleasing, and avoidance in all its forms. My clients have recognized that, despite their academic and other successes, something is wrong: their old ways of coping are hitting their limits; their challenges are harder to manage; their interpersonal relationships are fewer and shallower than they'd like; painful thoughts keep resurfacing in their minds; they are struggling to adjust to starting or completing their undergraduate/graduate studies; their inner experience is marked by turmoil and confusion; their low confidence or existential dilemmas lead to stuckness. Does this sound like you? I will strive to support you non-judgmentally while promoting your independence. As you recognize and mobilize your strengths, I’ll help you face your challenges more directly. I find supporting students through all the changes they face to be deeply rewarding and meaningful, and that's been true since I began counseling students in 2010. It's joyful to see my clients experience the relief and satisfaction that comes from engaging more fully in their lives. I offer individual and couples therapy, as well as DBT skills coaching. I strive to provide trauma informed care. Visit my website or contact me if you’re interested in taking steps towards a healthier, more satisfying life!
