Jeremy Shuman
Dr. Jeremy Shuman is a licensed psychologist at The Center for Mindfulness & CBT and has been providing outpatient psychotherapy for over 13 years. He is an area expert in the treatment of OCD and anxiety disorders and provides consultation and training across the country on the intersection of Autism and OCD. The focus of Jeremy’s practice is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), prolonged exposure therapies for anxiety disorders, and metacognitive therapies.
Areas of specialty include OCD, Autism/ADHD, panic attacks, health anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, insomnia, and distress related to tinnitus. Jeremy has particular specialty in treating OCD in Autistic clients, and has a track record of new progress with treatment resistant clients discharged unsuccessfully from higher levels of care. As a secondary niche, Jeremy also provides general counseling for stress, mood, family, and interpersonal difficulties for high achieving individuals (i.e. professionals in academia, medicine, law, engineering, finance, and tech). Common themes include overthinking, anger management, feelings of alienation from others, perfectionism, sleep improvement, boundary setting, parenting, work/life balance, assertiveness, and existential questioning.
Jeremy is trained in ERP through IOCDF, graduated from the Behavior Therapy Training Institute, and is a consultant for I-CBT. He is a leader within the neurodiversity movement in conceptualizing the intersection of Autism and OCD. He regularly engages in ongoing consultation with national experts, and attends national conferences both to learn and present.
Jeremy is an advocate for social justice, practices therapy from an LGBTQ+ affirmative stance, and continually engages with anti-racist training and self-study. Jeremy self-identifies as neurodivergent and practices neurodiversity-affirming therapy. He intentionally orients treatment to the stress arising from being neurodivergent in a culture that lacks acceptance of neurodiversity, rather than pathologizing the wide range of neurological differences distributed through humanity. He understands the role of intersectionality in personal experience with identity.
Jeremy keeps a limited caseload of individual therapy clients and takes new clients sporadically based on availability. Hours are Monday through Friday 10AM to 5PM. Jeremy is no longer in network with any insurance plans. Superbills can be provided for out of network reimbursement in some cases. Self-pay rates are $250 for an initial one hour consultation and $200 for each 50 minute follow up session. New clients must be 18 years old or older. Even when closed to new clients, Jeremy can sometimes provide one session consultations with clients or families for help with conceptualization and treatment planning.
