Therapists for college students near Central Connecticut State University
I began practicing as an in-home (B.A) clinician. I worked with people after discharge from long-term psychiatric hospitalization. It was during that period that I received intensive training to provide Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I find DBT to be flexibly structured. The intense dialectical process has been helpful for many of my clients to achieve stability and work towards resolving traumatic experiences. Part of regulating our behavior is teaching our body and brain to better regulate so I also specialize in Neurofeedback and HRV biofeedback modalities to support behavioral interventions. I approach everyone as an individual and tailor my approach specifically to them. I lead weekly DBT groups as well as providing individual sessions. It is important to resolve the past and we all must live in the moment. I hope to provide people with more effective moments of joy and more tolerance for the shitty ones. I am direct, empathic, and genuine. I always do my best to provide direct feedback and will help if I can. If you are reading this, you are doing the best you can. Please contact me to schedule a consultation at no charge. I am a trans woman and practice affirming approaches.
You've made it through past challenges and find yourself achieving, accomplishing, and appearing to have it together on the outside. While you have a drive to check items off your to-do list, you feel empty from the constant striving. You're still searching for ways to make sense of your past, better understand your feelings and relationships, and unpack the stories you tell yourself about who you are. You want to explore your values and feel like your life is aligned with them. You’re feeling anxious about the vulnerability that comes with these explorations but also eager to do so. I’m here to guide and support you. I'll encourage you to come as you are and use therapy as a space to practice showing up as your full, uncensored, and authentic self. Similarly, you won't get blank slate responses from me. I'll show up alongside you and nudge you to dive deeper. I'll help you reflect on your feelings, relational narratives, and values. Then, we'll work together to put these reflections into action. I help clients to address any current challenges and to build lives in which they feel connected, joyful, and worthy. I particularly enjoy working with clients whose marginalized identities (women, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent) contribute to them feeling like they are not good enough and need to be constantly achieving. You are worthy just as you are. I am accepting new clients for telehealth sessions or in-person in Farmington. Please reach out with any questions and to explore how I can support you. I'm happy to provide a 15-minute phone consultation to see if we're a good fit to work together.

Freedom finally!!! You made it to this new chapter. Congratulations!!! But noone mentally prepared you for the "shit show" that comes with this chapter. The fear of failure, the unexpected toxic relationship, the awkward social life, the extremely turn up social life that I can't balance, the loneliness, the self-doubt, and the unexpected life altering events (unexpected pregnancy, loss of loved ones, and friendships dissolved etc). Let us support you in this altered version of freedom, so you can tap into the success you have within you. You do not have to go through this alone.
Are you finding that day to day tasks or responsibilities seem unmanageable? Are your relationships with others strained? Have you been feeling “off” with no clear reason why? These emotions can be intense, overwhelming, and oftentimes, confusing. This is especially so from the age of adolescence to young adulthood. At this age you’re trying to find your place in the world, build your identity, balance multiple responsibilities. While you may be feeling tremendous pressure in this stage of your life, it’s important to know that you are not alone. Or perhaps you are a parent who is struggling to support your child, adolescent or young adult. Maybe you are seeing mood swings, behavior issues, increased isolation from the family, or problems in school. Your child’s grades may be slipping and it’s getting harder and harder to get them to attend school. You’ve noticed less motivation and a general disinterest in activities they used to enjoy, like music, sports, or spending time with friends. You may be finding yourself trying to encourage them, console them, or trying to reassuring them, and you’re losing sleep worrying about your child’s wellbeing. It seems nothing you’re doing is working. You’ve tried many different approaches and recognize things are not getting better - in fact, it seems they may be getting worse. Now and then we all need extra help managing life’s challenges. Recognizing this and reaching out for support is the first and most important step on the road to feeling better. I know how challenging it can be to make that first call for help. It’s critical to find a therapist who’s a good fit and one who can connect with you and/or your child. If you are ready to stop feeling overwhelmed, anxious and stressed and start feeling empowered and hopeful about the future, I can help. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and a school-based therapist in Connecticut. Over the past several years I have worked with children, adolescents, young adults and families in a variety of clinical and educational settings. I utilize a caring, relaxed, and empathetic approach in my work with clients, incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and a strengths-based perspective. I support clients in building a toolbox of effective strategies to manage everyday stress, anxiety and feelings of overwhelm, helping to build their self-confidence and a sense of hope about their future. I encourage clients to look at things holistically, recognizing how various aspects of their life (home, school, relationships, career, health) impact their overall well-being. Here are some ways I can help: Teen & Young Adult Therapy I help teens, college students and young adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship issues and school related stressors to talk about their struggles and to learn how to better manage their feelings and to create meaningful relationships and goals for their future. Group Therapy I help children, adolescents and young adults who are having issues managing stressors at school, at home or in their interpersonal relationships to connect with others who are experiencing similar challenges. Through the group experience, clients have an opportunity to engage with peers and to support one another in growing and learning new skills, strategies, and ways to relate with others. If you or your child are ready to move from feeling anxious, depressed or overwhelmed to feeling validated, supported and empowered to take the next step in achieving your goals, call or click the link below today to schedule a free 15-minute consultation. You were accepted to your “dream” college, but honestly it feels more like a nightmare. You’re homesick and having a lot of trouble getting used to college life, the intense academic expectations, and the complicated social dynamics. You had a great group of friends in high school, but now you feel lonely and disconnected. Everyone else is having a great time in college (or at least that’s what it looks like on their posts) and you wonder why things are so hard for you. You are spending lots of time in your dorm room, alone, and have started to fall behind on your work and have already missed several classes. You have no idea how you’re going to catch up. Assignments are coming due and exams are scheduled. You have no idea how to get back on track and are beginning to feel it’s a hopeless mess. Everywhere you look, the campus is buzzing, students are laughing and walking together on campus, eating in groups in the dining hall… yet, you feel incredibly alone. You did not truly appreciate your friends from home until now. The last time you had to put yourself out there and make new friends was in middle school. You find yourself longing for the time when hanging out with friends was fun and easy. For whatever reason, you are really struggling to connect with other students at your school. You find interactions with your roommate awkward and are considering asking for a transfer to a different room, but you’re worried that may make things worse (plus, you’ve heard there really are not other options because the college is over-enrolled). This semester has made you second guess yourself and your ability to be happy at your school. Overwhelmed by the pressures of college, you freeze. Your tried-and-true coping skills are no longer working. You are able to identify how you feel, but you are unable to act. You decline invitations until they stop coming. You stop eating in dining hall. You stop attending class. You chose to spend most days in bed wondering how long it will take for your roommate to say something. You lie in bed scrolling through social media for hours asking yourself, “can they really be that happy?” You, on the other hand, are miserable. The idea of disappointing your parents after all they’ve sacrificed to send you to college is too much to bear. You’ve made it seem like you’re doing OK, but the truth is, it’s not going well and you’re realizing that you need some help to figure this out. You know your parents will support you, but it’s just so hard to have the conversation and to admit to them (and yourself) that you may need to take a break from school or to at least come up with a different way of getting through college. You know you need help figuring out how to pivot from here. If you are ready to stop feeling anxious, depressed, and insecure and start feeling confident, successful, and excited about college life I CAN HELP. I am a Master’s Level Social Worker (LMSW) with a passion for serving college students as they navigate the unique challenges of this exciting and often stressful time in their lives. With a strong understanding of the stressors faced by college students, I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective support to help students thrive in their academic and personal lives. My experience includes a wide range of experiences supporting college students who are struggling with: stress, anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, low self-esteem, exploration of sexual identification, and academic performance concerns. I approach each client with warmth, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude. This creates a safe and supportive environment where college students can explore their thoughts and feelings. Within my therapeutic practice, I use a variety of evidence-based techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and solution-focused therapy, to help students develop coping skills, build resilience, and thrive all areas of their lives.
