Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
A former supervisor of mine used to say, “nothing changes until it changes.” I’m here to help you take that first step. As a therapist, I know that few things are as important to the process of therapy as the working relationship between the client and their therapist. This is why I approach every session and every client with empathy, warmth, and unconditional positive regard. I strive to create a therapeutic space that is safe and non-judgmental – where you are the expert of your own experience, where you feel validated at the intersection of your various identities, and where you feel understood as a whole person. I always maintain a client-centered and strengths-based approach to help you become the ideal version of yourself. I want to build your trust in me so that I can support you through difficult and painful times. In a world that stigmatizes mental health challenges, I seek to normalize, validate, and educate. I graduated with my MSW from the University of Michigan in 2022, where I worked as a therapist at the University’s counseling center, providing therapy to students. Prior to that, I gained case management experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I have experience working with individuals of various nationalities; cultural, racial, and ethnic backgrounds; religious groups; gender identities; sexual orientations; and more! I also have worked with clients experiencing a range of mental health challenges and diagnoses, including depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, ADHD, adjustment challenges, sexuality and gender identity concerns, identity development, and substance use.
Welcome! My name is Megan and I know that starting therapy can be an intimidating decision, but I aim to provide my clients with a safe and non-judgmental space to be themselves and process conflicts going on in their lives. I view therapy as a partnership, one where I can support you in your decision making, goal setting and healing. My goal is to assist clients in coping and processing with all of life’s difficulties, and ultimately live a life that is genuine and full of confidence. I have experience working in the mental health field with teens and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and more

Life can feel overwhelming—whether you're a parent, new mom, educator, or simply going through a tough season. You might be facing anxiety, postpartum struggles, burnout, infertility, or challenges with your child’s school experience, like IEPs or behavioral concerns. I work with teens, adults, and families navigating stress, parenting, transitions, or the complexities of adoption. Therapy can be a space to reflect, heal, and reconnect with yourself. You don’t have to have it all figured out—just be willing to start. You’ll find a safe, supportive space to feel validated and build skills like emotional regulation, coping, and communication. I use a compassionate, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach, drawing on CBT and my 27 years of experience supporting teens and families. I will meet with you right where you are at and help you grow and heal from there. I really care about people and the stories they carry. Life can be messy, and therapy gives you space to talk it through, feel heard, and sort things out. We'll work together in a way that feels supportive and real—so you can better understand yourself, feel more like you, and start to move forward.
At Willow Birch Therapy, our mission is to foster healing and growth by recognizing that emotional struggles, like the branches of a tree, extend from the deeply rooted experiences and traumas hidden beneath the surface. We are dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment where individuals can explore and understand these roots, finding the strength and resilience they need to flourish.
My mission is to bring a comfortable, collaborative and compassionate energy to therapy. I want to support you as you imporve your mental health in the ways that make a difference in your life. I work with a variety concerns such as Depression, Anxiety, LGBTQ+ support, ADHD, and relationship issues. I am so honored you found yourself here. I believe therapy works best when you feel deeply understood—not analyzed or rushed. Before I’m a therapist, I’m a human who values gentleness, curiosity, and compassion. It’s truly a privilege to sit with folks as they share their stories, their pain, and hopes for something different. I have a special passion for working with neurodivergent (or “neurospicy”) humans and those whose nervous systems have been shaped by trauma. Therapy with me moves at a pace that honors your body, your boundaries, and your unique way of being in the world. There’s no pressure to perform or “fix” yourself. My work is grounded in experiential and somatic approaches, meaning we don’t just talk about what’s happening—we gently explore how your experiences live in your body, emotions, and relationships. This can be especially powerful for healing complex trauma, navigating chronic pain and reconnecting with parts of yourself that may have learned to stay guarded. If you desire to connect with a therapist that cultivates a safe space for you to explore healing without judgement and approaches your experiences with curiosity and empathy I invite you to this space. As a fellow neurodivergent, chronically ill, queer woman - I understand how exhausting life can be. Let us explore what living authentically means for you.
I believe in the uniqueness of each person’s story, the innate power to overcome the darkest moments in life, and the beauty that comes from the process. In session, my intention is to build a trusting and collaborative relationship, bringing warmth, compassion, empathy, truth-telling, and hope to our time together. I utilize a holistic approach to healing, focusing on the integration of emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness. It is a great privilege to walk alongside those who are willing to put in the hard and courageous work to find hope and healing. I am passionate about walking with those navigating chronic illness, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, the adjustment to parenthood, relationship concerns, and life transitions. I incorporate a variety of interventions in my sessions, including CBT, ACT, Interpersonal Therapy, mindfulness-based therapy and compassion-focused approaches, among others. I am also trained in EMDR with an attachment lens. Through the therapeutic process, my desire is for each person to experience restoration, peace, and wholeness in their lives.
Hey, I’m so glad you’re here! Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re driven and expected to hold it all together. I work with holistic-minded adults, including entrepreneurs, professionals, athletes, neurodivergent individuals, transgendered individuals, and those with chronic illness or invisible disabilities, exploring identity, creativity, or burnout. I’m very laid back; come as you are. Curse, wear pajamas, lay in bed, be human. This is a space where you don’t have to perform, just show up. Only rule: please don’t drive during sessions or do anything that could harm yourself or others.

I work with college students who are managing: Anxiety & social anxiety Life transitions & academic stress Relationship and family challenges Unhealed trauma Many of my student clients have found therapy with me to be a safe, supportive space where they can heal, grow, and develop healthier habits—both mentally and physically. I was a psychiatrist prior to immigrating to the United States in 2001. I currently work as rehabilitation counselor, case manager for people with disabilities and also work as a mental health counselor independently. I am a good listener and passionate about each individual's life journey, self-identity, acculturation, relationship and career path. When we sit down to listen, learn and share different perspectives, we unlock entirely new ways of seeing ourselves. Stress never goes away, but we can adjust how to react toward stress, build resilience for ourselves and healthy relationships with others.
Therapy should be a place where you can fully be yourself, feel heard and supported. That is the type of atmosphere I try to create within sessions. With a person-centered approach we will work on the matters that are most important to you and find interventions that work in your life. Therapy can be hard and challenging, I will be by your side the entire way to provide support, validation and new approaches to help you handle the hard times. I am passionate about helping others find more laughter and joy from their life. People are often more resilient than they think and it is never too late to try and create a more fulfilling life. Prior to working in private practice I spent several years working for a community mental health. There I worked as an outpatient therapist. I worked with children, families and adults with issues such as depression, anxiety, family conflict, as well as financial stressors and life stressors. During my time there I also did significant amounts of work with people who have lived through trauma.
Being surrounded by other college students doesn't always protect you from feeling lonely or overwhelmed. College and graduate school can feel very isolating and challenging. Starting therapy can be the first step toward realizing that you don't have to carry these challenges alone. I am currently accepting new clients at Mindful Counseling, Standale location and via Telehealth. I work with adults seeking support for anxiety, depression, relationship and family challenges, emotional regulation, separation and attachment anxiety, life transitions, and identity development. I especially enjoy working with college students and young adults as they navigate increased independence, adjusting to college, academic and career pressures, and discovering who they are. Whether you're seeking support during a difficult season of life, greater clarity, or personal growth, I'm committed to partnering with you throughout the therapeutic process. My approach is integrative and individualized, drawing from CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, mindfulness-based and somatic interventions, and person-centered therapy. I tailor treatment to each client's unique needs and developmental stage, with an emphasis on emotional regulation, self-awareness, resilience, and building on existing strengths. I strive to create a compassionate, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable being themselves. I believe therapy is a shared human experience where we work together toward understanding, healing, and growth. Meaningful change happens through connection, collaboration, and a strong therapeutic relationship. If you're interested in learning more or scheduling a consultation, I'd love to connect. The Standale office is especially convenient for students, just five minutes from GVSU's Allendale campus, within walking distance of the Laker Line stop, and about 15 minutes from GVSU's downtown campus and Aquinas College. I look forward to connecting with you!
I believe that a core piece of psychotherapy is coming to truly see yourself, and allowing others (the therapist, at first) to see you as well. I practice psychodynamic therapy, which means that I am curious about your emotions, your past experiences, the intricacies of your mind and unconscious, and your imagination. Some people need to be listened to in therapy, others need to be told certain things, and often people need a little of both. I try to discern what is needed by each patient as best I can.
I specialize in helping young adults and college students navigate the challenges that come with this stage of life. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, self-esteem issues, relationship challenges, or simply trying to figure out who you are and where you're going; I'm here to offer support. College and early adulthood can be overwhelming. You're juggling social pressures, academics, future uncertainty, and maybe even mental health concerns. My approach is grounded in helping you build self-awareness, discover effective coping strategies, and create practical solutions that work for you. If you are ready to take the next step toward feeling more confident, focused, and balanced, let's talk. We will find a path that works for you, on your terms.
Ready to unf#ck your nervous system? Let’s be completely real, you can’t think your way out of a survival response. If analyzing your childhood or making endless coping-skill lists worked, you wouldn't be reading this right now. Numbing out, doom-scrolling, or pushing through the exhaustion makes complete sense, until it doesn't.I don't do standard talk therapy. I don't sit silently while you vent for 50 minutes just to tell you to breathe. At The Unfiltered Couch Counseling, we go straight to the root, in your body. When you are stuck in constant survival mode, chronic illness flares up, burnout takes over, and your brain feels constantly foggy. Using specialized somatic approaches like Brainspotting, EMDR, and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), we target where stress and trauma are physically trapped in your nervous system. We clear out the heavy, physical weight in your chest and stomach so your body finally gets the memo that the danger is over.If you are ready for raw honesty, deep somatic shifts, and a therapist who actually curses back, you’re in the right place. Let's get your system back online.
