From the outside things may seem fine, even when on the inside we feel frustrated, dissatisfied, or lost. It can be hard to put this experience into words which makes it difficult to know how to start feeling better. My approach to therapy is focused on helping you better understand yourself and your struggles so you can take steps towards a life that is nourishing and meaningful for you. I strive to create a warm and supportive environment so we can work together to challenge what you’ve been told about how you’re “supposed” to be and identify the patterns that get in the way of your living the life you want to live. I am a licensed psychologist with expertise in both mental health and sport psychology. At my practice I provide psychotherapy for adults as well as sport psychology services for athletes and teams who want to develop the mental aspects of their performance. Whether I am working with people seeking growth through therapy or with athletes looking for more out of their sport, my favorite part of my job is seeing the transformation that takes place as people start to connect with themselves and trust their best qualities. If you think you would be interested in working with me, please get in touch!
My 25+ years of experience includes working with survivors of trauma and violence; intimate partner violence; depression; anxiety and panic; stress management; individuals with histories in foster care; infertility; and parenting- particularly single parenting. The foundation of my practice are trauma-informed and psychodynamic approaches, and I have pursued additional training in solution-focused techniques, hypnotherapy, mindfulness, meditation, and cognitive behavioral therapy. My work is holistic and integrative, considering the interplay of mind and body and selecting from a variety of modalities to best suit you in our work together.

Hi there! My name is Reese Minshew, and I work almost entirely with transgender (broadly defined) adults who have had traumatic (broadly defined) experiences. I’m licensed in California, Illinois, and New York, and work via telehealth with people located in any of those states. Clinically, I believe that the reactions we have after experiencing trauma and stress are fundamentally adaptive to the trauma, but can disrupt everyday life. In other words, if you had a difficult experience (including chronic exposure to structural stressors such as anti-trans bias, white supremacy, ableism, etc), you might not be able to eat, sleep, focus, calm down, feel excited, or be in relationships in the way you want. Whatever reaction you’re having was very helpful to you at one time, but if it’s no longer serving you then we can work on that. Most of the time we would do this by talking about what’s going on in your life right now, and working to understand it in the context of your past experiences.
Embrace the discomfort, for it is a catalyst for growth. Are you feeling trapped between the pain of your past and worries of the futures making it hard to stay focused on the present moment? Do you find your inner dialogue is putting you down more often than building you up? Are you looking to develop healthier boundaries with yourself and those you love? If any of these statement sound like you, I want you to know there is hope. With 23 years of experience as a psychotherapist, I'm here to guide you through the depths of anxiety, depression, and relationship conflicts. Let's unravel the mysteries of your emotions and empower you to set boundaries, build self-worth, and discover strength in vulnerability. Together, we will uncover the root causes of conflict in your life and develop powerful strategies for lasting change. Let's embark on this transformative path together and unlock the extraordinary potential within you.

I provide therapy that’s rooted in cultural humility. I believe trust grows when we honor the full spectrum of your identity—race, gender, work environments, religious affiliation, family, and beyond. I’m interested in the “why” behind things. Many of our thoughts, feelings, and reactions make sense when we look at earlier experiences or relationships. In therapy, we gently explore those patterns—how they show up now, and whether they’re helping or holding you back. I work in partnership with you. We’ll determine your course of treatment together. I believe the most lasting change happens when your voice is central to the process.
