The Eating Disorder Center of Montana (EDCMT) was founded in 2013 to meet a community and regional need for specialized treatment for food and body disorders. Eating disorders are serious and common mental illnesses, yet access to care is often limited. Our founders saw this gap in care in southwest Montana and began building EDCMT to meet the need AND to create the kind of healing, approachable environment that would truly give all patients the best chance at lifelong recovery. There is no one size fits all formula for treatment of mental illness because no two individuals will experience it in the exact same way. The foundation of all we do is to provide patient care that can support everyone’s unique journey. We blend traditional healing modalities–individual therapy, skills-based and process group therapy, and meal support–with holistic healing modalities–art, yoga and music therapies–in thoughtfully designed, safe spaces, under the expert and compassionate guidance of our team.

Hi, my name is Karlie, and I am so glad you are here. I invite you to come spill the tea with me in a space that is cozy, casual, collaborative, and compassionately challenging. Therapy with me is rooted in genuine connection, where healing, growth, self-understanding, empowerment, and moments of laughter can all exist together. My therapeutic approach is Person-Centered and holistic, as I focus on the whole experience of each client while honoring their pace, perspective, and goals. I believe strong rapport is built through compassion, curiosity, trust, and taking time to understand each person’s lived experience and worldview. I also incorporate CBT and somatic modalities to support awareness, emotional regulation, positive routines, and practical tools that can be used in daily life. I work with adolescents and adults navigating trauma, life transitions, anxiety, depression, body image concerns, women’s issues, and other life stressors. My work centers on creating a relaxed and affirming environment where clients can breathe, reflect, and better understand how past experiences may continue to live in the body. I am committed to providing inclusive care that honors the impact of identity, family systems, relationships, and lived experiences on mental health and healing. As a former student athlete, I also provide space for athletes to navigate mental health, performance, holistic well-being, and the transition out of competitive sports. I strive to help clients explore their experiences through a lens that feels authentic to their worldview and goals. When I’m not in the therapy room, I enjoy the slower moments of life—loving on cats, watching TV, and spending time in coffee shops.

Therapy doesn’t require a “good reason” to start. Maybe you are overwhelmed, anxious, exhausted, struggling in relationships, carrying trauma, or just feeling unlike yourself lately. Maybe you are the person who keeps functioning and getting things done while quietly holding a lot underneath. I offer a warm, down-to-earth, trauma-informed space where you don’t have to perform, explain everything perfectly, or have it all figured out. I believe healing happens through safe and supportive relationships, and therapy should feel collaborative and genuine. I work especially well with students and adults navigating trauma, identity-based harm, relationship difficulties, anxiety, burnout, self-esteem issues, and life transitions.

I work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, burnout, and life transitions. My approach is collaborative and client-centered, grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own life. Together, we’ll explore your emotions with curiosity and compassion—identifying patterns, uncovering strengths, and working toward greater self-understanding and lasting change. I integrate relational, feminist, and emotion-focused perspectives, recognizing how early experiences, cultural narratives, and systemic factors shape our sense of self and relationships. Many of the struggles we face stem from disconnection—from ourselves, from others, or from the world around us. In our work together, I aim to help you reconnect with your emotions as valuable sources of information and guide you toward a deeper sense of agency and authenticity. My priority is to create a warm, safe, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, understood, and supported. I believe that healing happens through connection—the relationship we build becomes the foundation for growth. I bring empathy, openness, and cultural humility to each session, meeting you where you are and walking alongside you as you move toward the life you want to create. I offer a free 15-minute consultation to help you determine if I’m the right fit for your needs.

The world can be a joyful yet overwhelming place. Traumatic and negative experiences can make us feel stuck, so having someone walk alongside you as you process and heal helps forge a new pathway forward. All of our experiences are a part of our story, but they don't have to define who we are. I work with young adults and adults who may be experiencing anxiety, trauma, depression, suicidality, relational struggles, and transitions. I feel that coming from a place of self-trust and safety building can help create a path for self-compassion, understanding, and new beginnings.

We all face challenges that can leave us feeling disconnected to ourselves and others. Perhaps you feel hopeless, unloveable, or stuck in an area of your life. You have tried your best to get through it on your own, but something is not working. We often fear that if we acknowledge our pain, grief, and longings that they will completely overwhelm us. But they don't have to. We were not made to go through these experiences alone. I believe that growth, wholeness, and freedom from past wounds are possible for you. Together we will explore what you have been through, who you are today, and who you want to become. I will provide a safe and nonjudgmental place where you don’t have to have it all figured out to show up. I will also compassionately guide you through processing pain, loss, trauma, shame and fear. As we do this work together, you will begin to better understand yourself, discover your strengths, and gain tools to move through the challenges that life brings your way.

My approach to therapy begins within an environment of warmth, collaboration, and trust. Here, you and I will strive toward your self-healing through the development of deep insight into your unique history, personality structure, and relationship patterns. Over time, you should notice ease with your desired life changes, substance dependency, hard-to-handle emotions, isolation and loneliness, identity conflicts, or relationships. My approaches to treatment are personalized to ensure that we meet your goals, whether through use of cognitive behavioral and/or depth-oriented psychodynamic therapies. Whether focused on shorter-term needs (i.e. insomnia or trauma treatment) or long-term change (i.e. longstanding personality and relationship patterns), we will also pay close attention to what happens within our co-created therapeutic space, as what occurs within our own relationship can offer valuable insights into your life outside of the therapy room. Your unique cultural, religious, or identity contexts will be both honored and integrated into therapy. If you feel we would be a good fit, please feel free to reach out through email or by calling Big Sky Psychological Consortium to schedule an initial appointment.

No, I don’t do couples counseling or specialize in relationship advice. My vision for Coffee Date Counseling Services is tied directly to the experience that I hope to create for clients. I believe that counseling should be a human experience, one in which clients can feel supported and connected as they wrestle with the vulnerability that typically leads someone to seek out support. The image of two people meeting and sharing their experiences over coffee evokes in me the feelings I hope my clients experience after their sessions and was the inspiration for the name of my practice.
