You've made it to college, but something still feels off. Maybe anxiety is louder than it used to be, or you're caught in a pattern you can't seem to break with substances, food, sex, or just the story you tell yourself about who you are. Maybe depression has made everything feel flat, or a relationship is unraveling, or you just sense there's more to you than what's showing up right now. I offer soul-oriented psychotherapy, therapy that goes beneath symptom management to help you understand who you actually are and how you actually want to live. My approach blends somatic (body-based) work, Gestalt therapy, and depth psychology, so sessions are alive and relational, not just talking through problems. I work well with students who are done just getting by, who want real clarity about themselves, not just coping strategies. I see individuals and couples, in-person in Gainesville and via telehealth anywhere in Florida.

I specialize in working with adolescents, college students, and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity exploration. I am able to support you by fostering a therapeutic relationship built on trust, support, and openness. Through our collaboration, we will be able to find ways to cope and work through what is troubling you. Using techniques and interventions from CBT and DBT, we will identify how these feelings may be holding you back, and learn to integrate skills to help you step into the best version of yourself. Cooper, my dog, is also in training to be a therapy dog and is available to sit in sessions to provide comfort and joy. I value creating a space where you feel affirmed and accepted each and every session. Whether you are new to the therapeutic process or have experienced therapy in the past, I would be honored to support and guide you through your therapeutic journey. I look forward to meeting and getting to know your authentic self along with you.

We have supported many students with attentional and social-emotional difficulties in better understanding what is causing them difficulties and providing thorough recommendations. At Inner Harmony, we specialize in ADHD/Learning Disability testing, career assessment, and counseling for PTSD, Insomnia, and Phobias. Many things can impact your mood, attention, interpersonal relationships, and success- it can be difficult to decipher what is causing your difficulties and how to move forward! Psychological testing may help you better understand the areas that are causing difficulty, highlight your unique strengths and areas of difficulty, and provide resources and recommendations for a path forward. Our approach is client-centered, strengths based, and utilizes interventions supported by research. We also support individuals impacted by trauma. We offer manualized treatment for PTSD, insomnia, and phobias. Our approach to counseling focuses on a collaborative relationship with each person we work with. We utilize interventions supported by research, including Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and CBT for Insomnia. Note: While Dr. Visalli-Bettag is not able to work with University of Florida students, Dr. Anne Zhou may support clients seeking testing/services. Dr. Visalli-Bettag may work with students from other universities.

My name is Joseph Fuhrmeister, and I use he/him pronouns. The focus of my therapeutic practice, among other concerns, is to help individuals living with post-traumatic stress and complex trauma, the LGBTQIA+ population, individuals struggling with phase of life transitions and challenges, and people wishing to understand and manage anger. I take an integrated approach to addressing specific presenting concerns and mental health conditions. Examples of modalities and skills I have experience using: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) skills, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy. My professional background is in community agency settings providing outpatient individual therapy and group therapy services for a diverse population of adult individuals with mental health concerns ranging from mild to severe. I have case management experience, and I am able to assist clients experiencing encounters with the law, child protective services, homelessness, and other stressors experienced out in the community. In 2017, I completed a Bachelor of Science degree in the area of Psychology at University of Florida. I then completed a Master of Arts in Counselor Education from University of Central Florida in 2021 and was a member of my local chapter of Chi Sigma Iota International Honor Society in Counseling. I am also a member of the Florida Mental Health Counselor’s Association. A fun fact about me is that before I became a counselor I worked in property management for seven years. After I got married, my husband and I decided it was time for us to focus on bigger dreams. So here I am, doing what I love most! Along with being a plant parent of more plants than I wish to divulge…

Greetings beautiful humans! I am ethically non-monogamous (ENM), LGBTQ+, and autistic/ADHD. I share these identities as they inform and impact my worldview as well as my therapeutic process. I am passionate about working with people that share these identities, because I want you to feel seen, heard, and understood in a way that you might not find in the world on a regular basis. I also enjoy working with other communities that may feel ‘othered’ like people of color, vegans, atheists, sexual outsiders, sex workers, immigrants, and people from other cultures. I believe our differences make us unique and beautiful. When I show up in the therapy room, I prefer to show up authentically and bring as much of myself to the session as possible, while still making the process all about your situation and struggles. I also strive to be warm and grounded in my own strength while we walk through your world. With relationships, I prefer collaboration with all working as a team. I know various therapeutic modalities (e.g Internal Family Systems, ACT), but my goal is to co-create a plan with you that best fits who you are right now as I meet you. Motivation is a huge part of success. So, I try to pivot toward where the motivation is and what kind of process will work well with that. I can also do evaluations for autism and ADHD.

I specialize in somatic therapy for those who have experienced trauma. Anxiety, depression, dissociation, reactivity, chronic worry, addiction, and hypervigilance are all adaptive responses for the body after having experienced trauma (car accidents, loss, sexual assault, oppression, domestic violence, emotional abuse, developmental/attachment injuries, and many other historically ignored experiences). My approach is queer, trans, non-monogamous & kink-affirming, sex-positive, anti-racist, and based on a harm reduction approach to addiction. Somatic therapy is a body-centered therapy that asks us to keep the body in mind while we are working with your current experiences. My training integrates EMDR, relational psychotherapy and somatic psychology (Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Focusing). Together we will work to reduce your experiences of distress and increase your sense of safety and connection with yourself and others. We will do this through psychoeducation, talk therapy, and the choice to work with EMDR and somatic practices in session.

Welcome to my practice. I work with individuals, couples, and families all of whom have challenges and troubles that need some attention. No matter your relationship structure, sexual orientation, or other identities you come in with, you are welcome. Let's work through issues of closeness, respect, appreciation, communication, and sex. If your looking for guidance in navigating relationships or family of origin challenges, I have a special knack for that as well. My space invites tears, laughter, new perspectives, and self-compassion. I support a broad range of clients & challenges. For couples: increasing intimacy & connection, navigating infidelity & high conflict, or even finding that lost 'spark'. For families: creating boundaries, healthy communication, and navigating life cycles and transitions. For individuals: adjusting to stressors, self-discovery, & increasing coping skills. Everybody has a good reason to be who they are and where they are in life. I know that finding the 'right' therapist can be intimidating; I encourage you to push past this hurdle and reach out. If it ends up we are not the right fit for each other, I will help you find someone else. Sessions are online, typically 50 minutes long. On occasion, I do come into town for in person sessions.
