Therapists for college students near Santa Fe College
Are you the go-to friend, first-generation student, or the oldest child juggling big responsibilities — yet feeling weighed down by anxiety, trauma, or stress in your relationships? I specialize in supporting Hispanic students and high-functioning young adults who might look “fine” on the outside but feel overwhelmed, worried, or uncertain about the future on the inside. Whether you’re dealing with academic pressure, life transitions, or figuring out your identity, you deserve a space where you can be real and find relief. My approach is relational, authentic, and solution-focused. As an EMDR-trained therapist, I blend practical tools with deeper healing work to help you feel better and create the life you want. In our first few sessions, you can expect to identify actionable steps, explore changes in your routines, and feel truly understood. Clients tell me my style is warm, relatable, and centered around what matters most to them. Therapy with me isn’t about judgment — it’s about finding real, sustainable change. I’m passionate about this work because I believe feeling better is possible for everyone; therapy changed my life, and I’m here to help it change yours, too.
I believe we are created for human connection and in these relationships we will find healing. It is never too late to process pain and embrace life as your true self. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and am aligned with polyvagal theory, attachment theory, ego state parts work and IFS, and somatic therapies. My approach is to work with the mind and body to find the strength and resources within my clients for this deep healing. I use my compassion and skills to work with all ages and populations through individual and group counseling to process trauma, distress, life transitions, depression, grief, chronic illness, and fatigue. I am passionate about forming trusting, meaningful relationships and helping individuals to discover self-worth and find joy in life.

Early attachment experiences and relational environments shape how we see ourselves and connect with others. When those experiences involve chronic stress, neglect, or rupture, the effects can echo across generations. My approach attends carefully to these developmental layers, helping clients build regulation, integration, and a renewed sense of agency. I offer an exploratory therapy process grounded in careful attention to the patterns that shape our inner world and relationships. My work is trauma-informed and integrative, incorporating EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and expressive arts therapies to support healing at both cognitive and embodied levels.

I work with adults, couples, families, adolescents and college students. I also have training in treating substance abuse in adolescents and adults. I tend to counsel more from an approach than a particular theory. I use the Interpersonal Process Approach as my conceptual framework as it is highly adaptable, integrative and flexible. This approach allows me to collaborate creatively with each unique client to address areas of need. With this approach I weave together Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Family and Systems Theory, and Wellness.
Greetings beautiful humans! I am ethically non-monogamous (ENM), LGBTQ+, and autistic/ADHD. I share these identities as they inform and impact my worldview as well as my therapeutic process. I am passionate about working with people that share these identities, because I want you to feel seen, heard, and understood in a way that you might not find in the world on a regular basis. I also enjoy working with other communities that may feel ‘othered’ like people of color, vegans, atheists, sexual outsiders, sex workers, immigrants, and people from other cultures. I believe our differences make us unique and beautiful. When I show up in the therapy room, I prefer to show up authentically and bring as much of myself to the session as possible, while still making the process all about your situation and struggles. I also strive to be warm and grounded in my own strength while we walk through your world. With relationships, I prefer collaboration with all working as a team. I know various therapeutic modalities (e.g Internal Family Systems, ACT), but my goal is to co-create a plan with you that best fits who you are right now as I meet you. Motivation is a huge part of success. So, I try to pivot toward where the motivation is and what kind of process will work well with that. I can also do evaluations for autism and ADHD.
Stop Surviving and start THRIVING! I offer a safe space to work on on old behaviors that no longer suite you and begin to create new behaviors to enhance your relationship with self as well as others. I additionally offer Equine Therapy which can unlock stored up thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
I offer depth-oriented therapy for clients who feel stuck with relationships, identity questions, life transitions, grief, or anxiety. Many have tried therapy before and found it helpful but incomplete. I work with adults, children, couples, families, and seniors, creating space for exploration and lasting change. My work is psychoanalytic and relational, affirming why difficulties persist despite every effort to heal. I offer a supportive, structured space where open-ended conversation and creative exploration are guided by attention to what matters most to you. I have advanced training in psychoanalytic theory and experience in both private practice and academic hospital settings. I offer a thoughtful, collaborative, and emotionally attuned space for clients who are curious about themselves and open to deeper self-exploration.

Hi I'm Joe! I specialize in Anxiety, ADHD, and Depression– Help with overwhelm, improving focus, and helping you get back on your feet if life is not going great. From personal experience, I know that mixing anxiety with opening up to a stranger isn’t exactly anyone’s idea of fun. I will work with you and any stress or anxiety this process may cause. What you gain from working with me: 1. A calm, non judgmental space You do not need to have everything figured out before starting. Sessions are supportive, practical, and focused on helping you feel understood rather than pressured. 2. Tools that fit student life We focus on realistic strategies for anxiety, focus, motivation, and mood that actually work alongside classes, deadlines, and daily stress. 3. Clear direction instead of overwhelm Rather than trying to fix everything at once, we identify a few key areas to work on so therapy feels manageable and purposeful. How a first session generally goes: 1. Discuss what’s been going on 2. Identify a few areas to focus on 3. Make a practical plan that fits your life I do both short term and long term therapy on telehealth and in person. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Whether due to stormy family dynamics, unstable relationships, first-gen, LGBTQ, 'adulting', or having to navigate the never-ending COVID pandemic - life can become unmanageable! In the past five years with the University of Florida, I've had the tremendous joy of helping people (help themselves) through these storms - recent/old trauma, loving-and-conflictual relationships, coming to more peace and power with one's identity, more clarity and success at academics and career aspirations. You can count on me to be authentic and open, to come from a place of tenderness, warmth, and humor. Based in genuine, caring listening I try to offer everything possible to help you achieve lasting change. I'm a licensed psychologist (Hawaii - where I lived for years, Florida and Colorado), and am familiar with key areas of the scientific, empirical work and helps articulate trauma, anxiety and depression - and this points powerfully to what we can do to heal. My scholarly research and clinical experiences led to the completion of a book, “The Bruised Heart”. This book provides both in-depth information on the science of emotional healing and multiple clinical examples of real people (clients) whom I was so fortunate to know. I'm especially a good fit for anyone that may be (or called) “hypersensitive”, anyone who longs for authentic friendship, anyone who feels destabilized, perhaps following a break-up or stemming from chaotic family patterns. I love working with gifted and high IQ individuals, for example, with medical students, post docs, artists, and musicians who are highly intelligent but “underperforming” and simply suffering. And I have a passion for first-gen students, and has worked with many from, for example, Colombia, Brazil and Iran. Additionally, I think I am a strong fit for anyone who passionate about psychospiritual approaches to healing, growth and transformation. There are very realistic, nonabstract, doable ways to integrate forms of meditation into one’s busy life and this can be a gamechanger. Finally, I supervise third-year psychiatry residents and routinely assist clients in exploring medication options.
