Hi, I'm Damaris! Those unrelenting thoughts that play on repeat in your mind, the emotions that feel like they're always up and down, the body that feels exhausted from the constant pressure to keep it all together. Sound familiar? I want you to know that there is MORE for you than the way you are living right now. And through therapy, I can help you create a life that is full of freedom, confidence, and hope. Maybe those words seem too far from your reality right now - I can help. I work with clients on decreasing the unhelpful thoughts and emotions that get in the way of them creating the life they want. Together, we will explore new, healthy ways of thinking and equip you with coping skills to manage those emotions when they feel overwhelming. I work with adults of all ages, though I specialize in working with young adults.
My clients seek support in developing coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other challenges associated with the college experience. My foundational approach is rooted in person-centered and strengths-based principles. I employ an eclectic toolkit with methods from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Creative Arts Therapies, and Design Thinking to guide the therapeutic process. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working across diverse settings such as medical clinics, universities, corporate environments, and private practice. This journey has allowed me to connect deeply with people as they share their experiences and craft their intended stories. What energizes me is collaborating with clients as they navigate their unique life paths. My goal is to provide a nurturing and inclusive space that promotes healing – a place where clients feel safe to explore challenges and cultivate a practice of self-compassion.
My practice involves first taking time to establish comfortability and trust. From there, I introduce everyone to a variety of approaches depending on what suits their needs helps then meet their goals.
Clients I meet tend to experience a lot of emotional and psychological mistreatment in their childhood, and how that impacts their adulthood. I spend a lot of time with people helping them figure out their boundaries with others, and how to deal with conflict in different relationships. I’ve worked with people on the ideas of perfectionism recently, and how it can create a negative space internally when one’s standards are not met often.
Welcome! Each individual's journey is unique. As a therapist, I assist my clients in growing into the best version of themselves. I am inspired by every individual's ability to be self aware, vulnerable and resilient. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy and mindfulness-based interventions. I graduated from the University of Rochester with my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have experience working in non-profit mental health clinic settings serving children, teens and young adults. My expertise includes anxiety, depression, grief/loss, stress management, relationship difficulties, adjusting to life transitions, interpersonal skill development, and self-esteem building. We will work to build a strong therapeutic relationship, and to together determine the goals you wish to accomplish throughout your therapeutic journey. Each time we meet, we work collaboratively to process any past or current stressors that may be impacting your ability to be your best self. As your therapist, I will work at your desired pace but I will also guide and challenge you as needed. I value a strong therapeutic relationship and come to every session with warmth, compassion and high energy (and there's always time for a good laugh as well)!
I'm a zen practicing therapist+musician who loves working with people on their journeys to healthier relationships and becoming their most authentic selves. I was raised fundamentalist and spent my childhood learning fire and brimstone theology and memorizing verses from the King James Bible. Needless to say I chose to leave the "sinners in the hands of an angry God" mentality behind when I grew up. The truth is, being hard on ourselves doesn't help us or anyone else. But compassion, love, acceptance and presence connect us to who we really are, and who we can become. Along the journey, I've played a lot of music (with friends, in bands) and become a therapist. I wrote an album while in grad school and took a year off after grad school to play shows and work at a record store. I believe it's OK to have multiple passions, to want to do a lot of things, to use your voice, and to take your time figuring it all out. In our work together, I want to help you tap into your own creativity and inner wisdom while also drawing from evidence-based modalities to help you live a purposeful life, deepen your relationships, and reach your goals as a couple or as an individual. LGBTQI affirming. Puedo hablar contigo un poco de español, pero no puedo hablar con fluencia.
I invite you to bring your old strengths into a new perspective, and to share in a conversation that is both challenging and supportive. At Perspectives Mental Health Counseling, PLLC, you are welcome. You may come to gain a viewpoint outside of your current network of friends, family, co-workers, teammates, and to take a look at your own perspective as well. By gaining new insight, you will find ways to make positive change in your life and cope with whatever it is you carry with you through the door. Together we can, through talk therapy, work towards discovering and helping you to become the healthiest you. I specialize in working with individuals who are coping with medical issues.
College students and young adults are my favorite population of people to work with. I enjoy supporting students through these years as they balance academics, relationships, self discovery and adulthood. I specialize in treating Borderline Personality Disorder and other mood regulation concerns.

Skeptical? Good! The therapeutic relationship and experience of your counselor should be taken seriously. If you are courageous enough to seek support; do your homework, find a good fit and be cautious of snake oil and shortcuts. You know more about your experience than anyone. Be open, trust your gut. I enjoy working with clients who have been through challenging times and keep fighting the voice that undermines their accomplishments, goals and aspirations. Like a great deal of my colleagues – I find this privileged, difficult and honorable work. I value diversity. My career allowed me to interact with everyone and anyone – I am more interesting and compassionate because of it. Training and Experience. On paper, I am a master's prepared social worker, seasoned as a licensed clinical social worker and have 20 years of experience empowering individuals, professionals and systems in the criminal justice, government, and healthcare sectors. I am a University at Buffalo School of Social Work alum from back in the day. I am a dad and husband. I am passionate, warm, ambiverted, sometimes grumpy, professional. I do not have a brand. Raised on hip hop, straight edge hardcore and skateboarding. I found my education and profession by accident. When I’m down and feel like an imposter, I remember this. The rest I found in pain, love, and my own therapy. Enough about me, let's find what is important to you! Approaches Mindfulness based: most generally, exercises and a practice on awareness of your senses. Simple and radically transforming. This approach is unique, flexible and backed by research and measurable outcomes. It’s accessible, experiential, and highly rewarding. I view this approach as mind hacks to get around the junk in your head and drop back into your body. Trauma informed: incorporating evidenced based practices, common courtesy and acknowledgment that all of us have experienced hurts in some form. It is a way to embody and practice a non-pathologizing approach that honors your past while being grounded in the present. Systems oriented: life in context gives us freedom to understand ourselves and accurately place the hurt of our experiences back where they belong. Internal Family Systems has impacted my practice and personal growth.
Aimée understands that starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially in young adulthood, when life can feel overwhelming. Life can feel overwhelming when you're carrying the weight of your personal identity, family expectations, or the impacts of generational trauma. You may find yourself caught between who you are and who others expect you to be, leading to feelings of stress, self-doubt, or disconnection. Many of my clients seek a space where all parts of their identity are seen and affirmed, while also working through challenges like anxiety, depression, family of origin issues, or difficult life transitions. Together, we focus on healing, resilience, and building a stronger sense of self. I provide a supportive, collaborative space grounded in trauma-informed and culturally responsive care. Drawing from relational, strengths-based, and evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, and mindfulness, I help clients explore challenges, build resilience, and create change that feels authentic to who they are. I know it takes courage to seek support, and it's important to find someone who truly understands and respects you. My goal is to provide a safe and compassionate environment where you can feel seen, valued, and empowered to move forward in ways that feel right for you.
