We aim to reflect Christ-like qualities as we join and walk alongside those who are lost or hurting in order to bring glory to God and healing to His people. In order to extend peace, we remain committed to providing a space and listening ear to facilitate rest, rejuvenation, and growth. Exodus 17:11-12 affirms the reality that, sometimes, we all need to be uplifted: “11 Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses' hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.” (ESV) The trained clinicians at VVC desire to be the support you need to feel steady with the rising and setting of the sun.

ANMH's services are 100% free, every session, every time! ACTNow for Mental health (ANMH) is a non-profit (501(c)(3)) organization dedicated to expanding access to mental health services and support, while fighting mental & behavioral health stigma for all young adults (ages 17-32). ANMH focuses on communities that have been historically underserved by the health system including LGBTQIA+ and POC populations, people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities, and people who are uninsured or underinsured. ACTNow for Mental Health (ANMH) prides itself on being a teaching organization that utilizes and trains Master's level graduate students in various therapy treatments including CBT, DBT, ACT, Internal Family Systems, Psychodynamic, Art Therapy, and Trauma Informed Care. Many of our therapists at ANMH are Master's level graduate students from various accredited colleges and universities, and though they are with ANMH for a limited time, the services they provide are just as robust and comprehensive as licensed therapists. In fact, a study from 2013 found that the clients of student therapists improved just as significantly as clients of licensed professionals while in treatment for anxiety, depression and other mental disorders. Our student therapists have historically been with ANMH from August to May, allowing our clients to access services for an average of 36 weeks! On occasion, our student therapists will be available for less time, however, it is our policy that all new potential clients are informed of this before they begin services so they may make an informed decision on whether they would like to begin services or wait for a new cohort of interns with greater availability. To access services, please visit our website and fill out an intake form!

I’m Gabby Oblena and I specialize in working with young adults, Asian Americans, and LGBTQ+ individuals navigating depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, identity exploration, and life transitions. Many of my clients feel unseen, pressured, or caught between cultures, expectations, or roles. In our work together, I create a space where you can be fully human and explore who you are, make sense of your experiences, and feel understood without judgment. Together, we’ll cultivate self-trust, resilience, and clarity so you can move through life with greater confidence, authenticity, and connection. I offer holistic, non-judgmental, and eclectic counseling tailored to your needs. My style is conversational and collaborative, helping you feel safe, truly seen, and heard. I integrate practical tools with curiosity and care, and I bring humor and a relaxed, down-to-earth tone to create a comfortable, supportive space for growth and healing. I became a therapist to be the kind of person my younger self needed—someone who offers a safe space to feel deeply, embrace vulnerability, regulate overwhelming emotions, and nurture both self‐compassion and compassion for others. My hope is to be that person for my clients.
Student life can be complicated but it doesn't have to be. Navigating personal and emotional concerns and relationships while focusing on academics, athletics or work/family-life balance often requires support and patience. Some students do this well, while others benefit from someone from the outside who provides them with a non-judgemental space to sort through and make sense of it all. Together we will identify the source of your concerns, and how we can work together to make sense of the thoughts, feelings and actions which are getting in the way of your personal and professional goals. I have worked with college students in many capacities and hope that my experience can help me to help you find a way through depression, anxiety, stress or life transitions.
Hi, I’m so glad you’re here, because you deserve support. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck in old patterns, or exhausted by your relationship with food, movement, or your body, you’re not alone. There is hope for healing and a way to feel more like yourself again. I’m a resident in counseling based in Charlottesville, VA, passionate about walking alongside college students and young adults navigating eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, body image concerns, and life transitions. My approach to therapy is relational, holistic, trauma-informed, and aligned with Health at Every Size (HAES). This means that together, we’ll explore your story at your pace with curiosity, compassion, and safety, to help you feel seen, grounded, and whole. I also offer EMDR therapy, a trauma-informed approach that helps your mind and body process painful experiences and find relief. My background as a mother/baby nurse, cross-country coach, and my own recovery journey give me deep empathy for the challenges my clients face. As a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), I also support clients in healing their relationship with exercise, shifting from punishment or perfectionism toward connection, strength, and joy, and can incorporate that into therapy if desired. If you prefer movement in your sessions, I offer walk-and-talk therapy as an option for those who find it easier to process while moving outdoors. For anyone who would find it beneficial, I offer Christian faith-based integration from a compassionate, grace-centered perspective, exploring how your beliefs and values can support your healing journey. Whether we meet in person in Charlottesville, virtually through telehealth, or outdoors on a walk, you’re welcome to come just as you are. Some days we might laugh; other days we’ll hold space for hard things (because both are part of healing). All backgrounds and beliefs are welcome here. You matter. Your story matters.
I tend to work best with college students and young adults who look “high-functioning” on the outside but feel overwhelmed on the inside. Many of the students I see are smart, reflective, and trying hard — yet struggling with anxiety, mood swings, burnout, panic, or a constant feeling of pressure to perform or hold everything together. You might feel stuck between who you were expected to be and who you’re becoming. You may overthink conversations, feel emotionally exhausted, struggle with motivation, or feel disconnected from yourself or others. Some students I work with have experienced past stress or trauma that still shows up in their body — through anxiety, sleep issues, emotional shutdown, or feeling on edge — even if “nothing bad” seems to be happening now. In therapy, we move at your pace. You don’t need to have the right words or a clear goal right away. My approach is supportive, curious, and collaborative — focused on helping you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and develop tools that actually feel usable in real life. Therapy with me is a space to slow down, feel less alone, and build steadiness during a demanding and uncertain chapter of life. I will be getting credentialed with additional insurances and accepting private pay-please feel free to check back or reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns.
Starting therapy can feel like a big step. You may have been thinking about it for a while, wondering if your struggles are "serious enough," or telling yourself you'll figure things out on your own. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in the same patterns, or simply tired of carrying so much by themselves. As a person-centered, insight-oriented therapist, my mission is to create a space where you can exhale a little. A place where you don't have to have the right words, a clear plan, or everything neatly figured out. We can be curious about what's going on, make sense of it together, and find a path forward that feels true to you. If that sounds like the kind of support you're looking for, I'd be glad to connect. I work with young adults and adults who are ready to go deeper — not just manage what's on the surface, but understand what's underneath it to get to the root of your discomfort. My focus areas are relationships, identity, and self-worth, along with quarter- and mid-life identity development and transitions. Our time together goes beyond symptom relief. We'll explore the immediate concerns bringing you to therapy and the underlying patterns that may be shaping your experiences, helping you move toward greater self-awareness, confidence, and fulfillment. No matter what you’re experiencing, my goal is to help you feel understood while gently challenging the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Working with me feels less like sitting across from a clinician and more like having a thoughtful conversation with someone who is genuinely invested in your growth. At all times, my approach is warm, relaxed, and collaborative. I bring humor and a nonjudgmental presence to our work, and care deeply about creating a space where you can be yourself without fear of criticism or shame. Utilizing therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and integrative psychotherapy, I help you uncover the patterns that no longer serve you and discover new ways of relating to yourself and others. My path to becoming a therapist began with a fascination for the complexity of the human experience, and a genuine desire to understand what helps people heal, grow, and feel more connected to themselves. Through my own work and experiences, I've come to appreciate how much courage it takes to be vulnerable and ask for support. That understanding, combined with my passion for helping others, deepened my commitment to offering a space that is safe, unhurried, and free of judgment, somewhere you can explore your inner world at your own pace. In my practice now, I bring empathy, humor, and genuine curiosity about each person's story to every session as we navigate those worlds together. Singing, laughing, cross-stitching, and time at the pool — these are the things that fill my life outside of sessions and keep me connected to joy in its simplest forms.
At Helen’s Project, we provide a safe, supportive space for students who are navigating real-life challenges, whether that’s stress from school, anxiety, relationship struggles, or just feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to start. Many of the people we support are balancing a lot, academics, family expectations, work, or personal struggles, and don’t always feel like they have a place to talk about it openly. Our goal is to make mental health care feel approachable and real. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Whether you’re dealing with something specific or just know something feels off, we’re here to meet you where you are and help you move forward in a way that feels right for you.
