Each staff member in the practice has immense experience in different struggles. We are able to find a therapist that will fit most needs and it is all done through Teletherapy. We can see any individual that is a resident of NJ and struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, adjusting, co-occurring, and substance abuse. We understand the stress of college and the transition period mixed with the struggle of daily life can be overwhelming and would love to be a support for you. Our goal is to help you create happy memories that you can look back one day as well as reach your goals.

Pre-Licensed Professional
Pennington, NJ

I work with students experiencing difficulties with relationships, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, motivation, grief and loss, OCD, and trauma. I have found that a helpful starting point is to do this as a team. We build on skills you already have, learn new skills and develop understanding of who you are and what kind of life you want to live. Then we figure out what barriers are getting in the way and how to overcome them. Of course that's a general idea and we can shift things around to make therapy work for you and meets your needs. I've been a therapist for four years and have two years working at Princeton University's Counseling Center, and have worked with multiple students from Rutgers and TCNJ. I offer in person sessions in both Pennington and Marlton at Inner Balance Psychology as well as online. I see students in person and over telehealth in New Jersey, and am licensed for telehealth sessions in Vermont. You're welcome to reach out if you have any questions.

Clinical Social Work/Therapist
Lawerenceville, NJ

My name is Laura Shaffner, and I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and counselor. My counseling style is warm and intuitive. I especially enjoy working with people around life changes, self-esteem work, anxiety, and relationship issues. I use the framework of holistic psychology primarily in my work, along with incorporating other frameworks that may best suit you. This may include cognitive-behavioral, client-centered, or psycho-dynamic counseling, along with yoga and mindfulness techniques as modalities for self-care. Holistic psychology believes that healing is a conscious process that can be lived daily through changes in our habits and patterns. The practice of holistic psychology is rooted in the ideas of freedom, choice, and ultimately, self-empowerment. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. Please know that a counseling session with me is always a supportive, safe space to talk about anything that is on your mind. Oftentimes, we seek counseling to get through a difficult experience, manage overwhelming emotions, or improve relationships. While counseling is effective in helping one get through isolated challenges, the goal of counseling is to help identify patterns of ideas, emotions, and behaviors that may contribute to repetitive maladaptive experiences. Our current experiences are often shaped by past experiences. It is common to get stuck in ways that make it difficult to move past a particular state of being. It is important to recognize that counseling is a collaborative effort. The true work of counseling often occurs between sessions in self-reflection, self-awareness, and a commitment to self-improvement. It takes courage to seek for you to reach out and seek help. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to be your sounding board and help you with whatever concerns you are facing today. I very much look forward to working with you!

Do others see you as someone who has it all together? Inside, are you feeling like you're falling apart? Do feelings of emptiness consume you? For many people suffering with emotional wounds, anxiety, isolation and hopelessness can become a daily part of life. Sometimes managing painful times from the past intrude on their ability to enjoy the present. Sometimes compulsive eating patterns, substance abuse, spending or even relationships seem like the only way to numb the pain. You don't have to face it alone. We can work together to find new solutions for wellness, healing and recovery. Our approach focuses on developing a safe, collaborative relationship where new insights and change is possible. Together we can discover healthy ways to cope with difficult feelings and break the cycles that are preventing you from living the life you want. You CAN find a newfound sense of fulfillment, peace and well-being. Through counseling, psychotherapy and expressive arts therapy we specialize in offering hope to families in Mercer, Bucks, Hunterdon and Somerset counties struggling with the effects of trauma (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), anxiety, addiction and LGBT concerns.
