Hi! I'm Virginia (she/hers). I work exclusively with college-aged and young adults, focusing on identity, attachment, and trauma recovery. My specialities are adoption, from the perspective of an adoptee, and LGBTQ2S+ affirming therapy. As young adults, we experience a lot of transition, self-doubt, anxiety, independence from our family system, and a desire to evolve our coping strategies. I love exploring identity; working with you to integrate all the parts of your authentic self into a feeling of being fully "you" every day. I work with adoptees, blending my perspective as an adopted person with my clinical background in neurobiological and attachment science, to assist you in unpacking the fog, preverbal trauma, identity and strengthening your sense of self, the duality of adoptive & biological families, and understanding adoption-specific trauma responses. How we view ourselves (and the lens we may have learned to look through in early experiences) determines how we interact with others, who we choose to partner with, and what interests we pursue in career development. I work on relational/response patterns you feel stuck in, building trust and confidence in your own decision-making, resolving sources of stress and anxiety, and I'm just generally dedicated to *raising up your self-worth*. My therapeutic focus is integrative and trauma-informed -- I understand that traditional models of counseling aren't helpful or affirming to every client. I draw on attachment, ACEs, internal family systems, neuroscience, but mainly, I center my client's lived experience. My clinical background includes LGBTQ+ resource centers, community mental health, nature-based retreats, and I am dedicate to ongoing advocacy work, alongside community organizations and national legal rights activists for young LGBTQ2S+ and adopted adults. I currently have morning and afternoon openings to work with your class and work schedules. I mainly offer virtual sessions ongoing, but also have a downtown office on Main St for those who prefer in-person work. Please contact me via email or visit the booking page on my website to schedule a free consultation!

Childhood trauma often times comes with a feeling of deep shame, which turns into a core belief that you are bad, undeserving and unworthy of anything good. Shame comes from an old German word meaning “to cover.” You hide your feelings, keeping them secret. Because—if they really knew who you were, they couldn’t love you. You spend your life trying so hard to cover up the bad so no one will see. In doing this you lose your authenticity, your truth, your dreams. You become someone you are not. You lose your light. Working through trauma is hard, it takes courage, dedication and patience, but it is worth it. You are worth it.
Big Sky Recovery exists to help you or the one you love find freedom.

My approach is rooted in the idea that every individual has the innate ability to flourish when given the proper environment and tools to thrive. “We all need to be seen and honored in the same way that we all need to breathe.” - Brené Brown. My primary focus in the room is to make you feel seen and honored. I approach counseling from a relational perspective; our therapeutic relationship is the most important thing to create. When you can feel safe, trusting, seen, and honored, healing and change can begin. I seek to support my clients in experiencing this in their relationship with myself and how to find this with others. My therapeutic approach is emotion focused with my clients; we explore patterns in their own relationships that often lead to shame, fear, or anger. We collaborate to explore how we can shift these patterns towards joy, belonging, and acceptance. I work with individual adults, children, and couples. I would like to acknowledge the bravery it takes to explore counseling and begin this journey. I am hopeful and excited to begin walking this path alongside you. “Being the 'best you can be' is really only possible when you are deeply connected to another.” – Sue Johnson

Now accepting new clients! Hi there, my aim is to cultivate a space that fosters authentic connection, healing and curiosity while honoring each person's unique needs and truth. I firmly believe that true healing begins with our relationship with ourselves and blossoms through connections with others. I recognize that life experiences, relationships, and systemic influences can sometimes lead to feeling like you have a lack of control. I wish to assist you in re-establishing a sense of self-autonomy and agency within your life. I predominantly draw upon trauma informed, somatic-based, and relational culturally based interventions. This approach allows me to use a holistic lens to help you deepen your understanding of your emotions and experiences within the broader systems that surround you. I have experiences working with individuals who have experienced domestic violence, trauma, managing life transitions, depression, anxiety, and racial identity exploration. I enjoy working with individuals who identify as multi-/bi-racial within the BIPOC community. I look forward to connecting!

I am a relationally focused counselor who believes that true healing and change occurs when there is a strong therapeutic relationship. I view my role as counselor as not only a source of support but also, an objective guide to help you see patterns, make connections, and address thoughts and behaviors that are contributing to your current emotional state and symptoms. It is often difficult for us to see these things for ourselves and having a safe, supportive place to explore our emotional experiences, thoughts, and behaviors can be incredibly beneficial. I have 17+ years of experience working primarily with the college population in a university counseling center setting. I have been in private practice for over 11 years and have seen both adults and older teenagers in that setting. I also have experience with couples and typically utilize Gottman methods with couples. Reaching out for help and support can be incredibly difficult and I commend you for taking this step. Vulnerability can be hard and scary but, it is also what will allow you to heal and build the life you deserve and want. I would be happy to meet with you to find out if I might be a fit as your therapist.
I work primarily with people from the teenage years through young adulthood, focusing on a range of mental health and relational struggle. More broadly, I focus on the development and deepening of personal identity and values. I believe that having a strong sense of who you are and what matters most in your life gives people a sense of direction through uncertainty, and provides strength in times of struggle. I also believe that even in hardship there is a place to find joy in life without minimizing the struggle. Without joy, suffering can weigh a person down into hopelessness. I seek to empower people with a deeper understanding of how the mind and relationships work, and to flow with the currents of life without being swept away by them. Your life is your journey, and I am happy to walk beside you for a time in your hardship to help you find the path forward. It is hard to know if a counselor is the right fit based just on a description. All of my initial meetings are free with no commitment to continue until we have met and you are sure my approach is the right one.
