Reaching out for help takes courage. It means that you are able to admit that you do not have all the answers and have the strength to acknowledge that you may be struggling. Experiencing personal conflicts can make you feel unsteady, anxious, and unsure about how to move forward. It is during these times, I believe that showing up authentically is the first step in moving forward. I believe that leaning into vulnerability and tuning into yourself is key to a transformative journey. Therapy is a safe place to remember who you are and discover the inherent power you hold to create a life that you will simply enjoy living. I view therapy as a collaborative process grounded in the human capacity for change. You are the expert of your own life and I desire to work alongside you to develop healthier relationships and learn effective strategies to overcome life’s obstacles. My goal is to create a supportive environment to foster healing, growth, and empowerment. I welcome all backgrounds with cultural sensitivity. I work with individuals seeking change in the areas of anxiety, depression, relationship/family conflict, childhood behavioral problems, mood stability, self-esteem, and trauma. In practice, I utilize cognitive behavioral approaches, solution-focused, trauma focused CBT, and mindfulness.

We all have a way of maintaining safety in relationships and making the world "work." However, from time to time, we realize that these strategies may or may not be leading us to the life we've wanted. I greatly enjoy working with women experiencing anxiety and relationship difficulties - often manifesting as high achievement and/or perfectionism. Many of my current clients are in the helping professions - mental health, medicine, faith-based ministry. Together, we begin to explore interpersonal patterns and tendencies as well as core beliefs and narratives, with the goal of creating a new story. Please see my Psychology Today profile for additional info.

The Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CCPS) is a service, training, and research component of the Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology at WMU. CCPS offers affordable mental health services to residents of southwestern Michigan. We do not take insurance, and sessions are priced using a sliding fee scale. Master's and doctoral degree students affiliated with the department provide professional counseling and psychological services at CCPS. Graduate student counselors are supervised by faculty members who are professional counselors or psychologists. Individual counseling for persons experiencing personal, educational, or vocational concerns is the primary service offered by the staff throughout the year. Other services such as marital and family therapy, group counseling, and psychological assessments (ADHD and Learning Disorders) are offered periodically.

My heart for hurting people was birthed out of my own journey of experiencing healing from trauma, abuse and loss. I am convinced that all of us are created with a potential for incredible resilience and with the right kind of compassionate support, we can bounce back from the worst of circumstances. I grew up in India and after moving to the US in 2001, received a M.A. in Professional Counseling from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. Over the last 2 decades, I have enjoyed working with children and adults in various settings such as schools, women's shelters, colleges, churches and private practice. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, cooking and enjoying conversations over a good meal with friends and family.

My approach begins with the understanding that connecting with one’s self and others is a pathway toward finding meaning and fulfillment. This pathway of connecting can become blocked by old emotional wounds or current relationship struggles. The partnership formed in the therapy relationship becomes the platform where healing broken connections may occur. This approach can help bring about lasting change by getting at the ‘root’ of the problem and bring relief from symptoms. Central to Chris’ approach is a concern for the role that faith and belief play in the life of the patient. My practice is shaped by his time training at Northwestern University, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and the Center for Religion and Psychotherapy of Chicago. My approach to working to help people change comes primarily from a model for psychotherapy where tending to feelings, symptoms, and patterns of relating becomes an important part of the healing process. In our first conversation, you can expect to briefly discuss your concerns as well as set up an initial meeting. The first meeting is where your concerns and history are better understood in order to offer specific recommendations and feedback.

My hearts desire is to walk along side people when life is hard (because it is hard for everyone, at some point) and help them find the peace and joy they desire. My foundation, my rock is Faith and that is at the core of who I am. But I know that is not everyone’s truth and I have worked with so many people who have different beliefs. When I worked in hospice, there was always a spiritual component, we always asked patients what their meaning of life is. Whatever that is for you, I want to walk along side of that. My experience as a coach, a youth leaders, an oldest of four daughters...I have seen so many young girls seeking for something that is missing. Seeking for a sense of belonging, seeking for Love and sense of worthiness. I want to help you discover that. I want to walk this hard journey with you. We are not meant to do this life alone.

At MPTS, LLC, our mission is to create a strong relationship of trust with clients in a caring and judgement-free space, capitalizing on diverse experiences, specialties, and therapeutic strategies to meet the unique needs of the clients we serve. In so doing, we advance the following core values: • Multicultural Competence, Humility, and Sensitivity We recognize the importance of culture in informing our identities and our unique lived experiences. As such, we are dedicated to fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust so that our clients become comfortable in exploring their life’s journey with their therapist. • Client-Centered Approaches We recognize that truly effective therapy is collaborative in nature. While our therapists have specialized knowledge and expertise, you and your therapist work together as a team to unpack your concerns and discover the ways to help you move toward your mental health goals. • Present-Time Focus While we understand exploring our past experiences helps to inform our future experiences, it is necessary to deliberately and purposefully be in our present. When we strive to live in the present moment, regardless of the discomfort or pain, we gain personal insight and strength to begin making change, as may be needed. • Empowerment Focus We believe that despite life’s challenges or even because of these challenges there is within each of us the potential for growth.

I work with teens and college students to help them deal with anxiety, depression, stress, relationship concerns. I also help people who are stressed out and need some clarity about big decisions such as whether to change majors. I use Solution Focused Therapy which means I'll help you get a clear idea of what you want things to look like in the immediate future and then help you use your current strengths and past successes to make it happen. I'll help you get ideas for small but do-able changes to start with, and these small changes add up to big change.

I've spent many years working in different college counseling centers and have a true love for the college population - so much is happening in emerging adulthood, especially figuring out who you are and what you want life to look like. Because of increased stress and responsibilities, it is also a time where mental health concerns can either emerge for the first time or increase in their severity. I find great joy in getting to be a supportive space and teammate for folks navigating this incredibly rich period of life.
