One of the greatest joys I have in life is the privilege of walking beside clients on their journey to healing and wellness. I work hard to provide clients with a safe and comfortable space where they can address the issues of importance to them. I view myself as a fellow traveler whose role it is to collaboratively create a map to get clients where they desire to go. No two clients are the same, and no two maps are the same. Each experience with clients is new and deserves a fresh approach which is based on your needs, not mine. I work hard to get to know you, your story, your goals, your strengths, and your growing edges. I hope each and every client leaves the session feeling heard, valued, and respected. As a Marriage and Family Therapist I work with individuals, couples, and families from a systemic point of view. I work with clients to figure out where the various puzzle pieces fit inside their lives and relationships. I have earned a Masters and PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy, and along the way have taken extra training in a variety of areas. I am a sex therapist, a clinical sexologist, a certified sex addiction therapist, a certified partner trauma therapist, and a Gottman Level 3 trained therapist. I invest in the best training in order to provide you with the best tools. Clients come to me to work on issues of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, anger management concerns, recovering from sexual assault/sexual abuse, and for exploring issues of sexual identity or sexuality issues. I am comfortable working with individuals, couples, and entire families — and I am comfortable working with adolescents and adults. I am in-network with several insurance panels. In working with couples, I primarily utilize the Gottman Method Couples Therapy. This approach to therapy is one of the most well researched and effective approaches to helping couples resolve issues, increase connection, improve communication, and gain a better understanding of how relationships work. When I am not in the office, you can usually find me hanging out at home, tending the garden, collecting eggs from the chickens, caring for our goats, harassing our dogs and cats, or harassing my very patient wife and very tolerant adult children. I sometimes get to play golf (and sadly lose A LOT of balls). And I enjoy working with various local groups such as the Human Rights Coalition of Alachua County, the Human Rights Council, the PRIDE Center, and working to help make our community a safe place for all people. Licensed in or able to provide telehealth services in the following states: Delaware, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia

Through kindness and authenticity, I meet vulnerability with deep compassion, empowerment, and respect. My experience includes navigating issues related to anxiety, relationship concerns, depression, grief and loss, trauma, life transitions, and self-esteem. I’m a passionate advocate for social justice in our communities, as well as for emotional and physical safety in relationships. This passion is reflected in my trauma-informed systemic approach to therapy. People are complex beings, doing the best they can given their circumstances and resources. I believe in the fierce resilience within each person and their capacity to carve their path to healing, but you don't have to do it alone. ***I also offer clinical services in Spanish.***

Ask yourself the last time you felt truly connected to the current moment. Most of us would admit that living in the present is a struggle. So often, we get caught up in trying to rewrite the already lived chapters in our life stories, or have a desire to over control and predict the outcome, that we lose sight of the chapter that we're currently writing. This tendency keeps us from being the best, most authentic versions of ourselves and limits our ability to consider what's truly important and meaningful. I enjoy working with clients who recognize this conflict and are willing to sit with and consider their current experience.

I am a deep heart healer. Clients come to me to support in clearing and transforming the parts of them which are deeply wounded. I work with clients from an intuitive and trauma-informed perspective. My work extends beyond the mental and emotional into the energetic and spiritual realms. I believe we all carry trauma whether it is collective, individual, or ancestral. I connect with clients throughout the lifespan. Words are one source of healing, but healing can also occur without words. Through creativity, play, and energy psychology techniques, we can shift and heal. We can experience deep healing as a child, adolescent, and adult. Whatever you are holding, you do not need to hold it alone. Your whole self is welcome. Nature is my greatest teacher. I often find answers that inspire and guide the way I work and live in nature. Working with me, opens you to rest in your own truth, move through deep healing, and return to connection – internally and beyond. I would be grateful to walk with you during this part of your journey.

Are you feeling stuck, burned out, unmotivated, exhausted or worse? That’s not life. You were meant to feel alive! By closely examining your thoughts, behaviors, and, most importantly, your emotions, you will discover what beliefs and habits keep you locked in negative, self-defeating patterns, and how to free yourself for good. Regardless of what happens – or happened – to you, you can learn to live a life filled with passion and purpose. I take a personalized, integrative and collaborative approach to psychotherapy, utilizing a wide array of techniques from depth psychology and individual psychology, to narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and others. I also believe in the power of expressive arts therapy and often incorporate music and poetry. My goal is to create a caring and supportive space for you to feel. To feel safe, and seen, and heard. Fertile ground to fully be and become the awesome person that you are. Let's get to work.

Being human is hard. There are many emotions that come from simply existing. It can feel overwhelming to embark on the search and discovery of one’s most authentic self all while navigating the world around you. To learn what works & what you’d like to change. To find the language to communicate who you are to yourself & others. It can help to have someone accompany you as you learn & remember who you are or want to become. I can provide a space for all that you carry to be witnessed, validated, & explored. I’d love to join you in your journey towards embracing both the beautiful & painful complexities of being human. I know what it feels like to sit on the other side of the room. I am no stranger to therapy & I value giving you a sense of autonomy. I collaborate with you & operate from a place of relationship- which I believe can be the most healing tool. I hope to be a witness to your emotions & stories, to remind you that you do not have to journey through this alone. I specialize in grief, anxiety, religious trauma, life transitions, boundary work, & in working with the LGBTQIA+ community. I have worked in a variety of settings & have been so honored to journey with a multitude of clients towards their healing & authentic selves. I'm Kathleen, and I help people to heal trauma by using a mix of talk therapy and embodiment practices. If you ever had an experience that felt like too much, it happened too fast or too soon, or it felt like it was too much for you to handle, you went through a traumatic experience. Whether your trauma happened in childhood or in adulthood, trauma can negatively impact your mental health and your relationships. To heal trauma, you must also learn to listen to your body’s signs of stress. I can teach you to listen to these signs before they become overwhelm, and lead to you feeling shut down and disconnected. Feeling overwhelmed and disconnected are signs that a past trauma experience is impacting your life today. You don’t have to live in the pain of the past. Trauma does not have to become your legacy. Even though the impact of trauma is deep, I know that trauma healing is possible for you. Call me today to schedule your FREE 30-minute phone consultation. I know we can offer you a better quality of life by acknowledging the pain of the past. Give me a call today to start your trauma healing process.

Many of the students I work with look like they’ve got it together on the outside, but underneath they’re overwhelmed, burnt out, or stuck in patterns they can’t seem to break. Some are carrying the impact of past trauma. Others are dealing with intense emotions that feel hard to manage, or using substances as a way to cope and get through the day. Even when those strategies “work” short-term, they often create more stress, shame, or disconnection over time. What they all have in common is this: they’re tired of just surviving and want something to actually change. My work focuses on helping you understand what’s underneath those patterns, build real emotion regulation skills, and find healthier ways to cope that fit your life. This isn’t about judgment or quick fixes it’s about giving you practical tools and support so you can feel more in control, more grounded, and more like yourself. If any of this resonates, you don’t have to figure it out alone. There is a way forward.

Welcome! There are times in life where we may find ourselves struggling with current stressors or are experiencing challenges coping with wounds from the past. While seemingly functioning in the day-to-day routines of work, school, home, and within relationships, it becomes increasingly difficult or sometimes even impossible to manage. For many of us, strength is often perceived as “holding it together” while we are painfully bottling up the emotions that we were actually designed to experience naturally. We can become trapped in the pain of our past (or present) and silently suffer. As an experienced therapist specializing in trauma, anxiety, depression, and addiction, together we can work to achieve healing, restoration and balance. Therapy will afford us an opportunity to identify healthy coping skills to promote a life of hope, healing, and meaning.

I specialize in helping teens, adults and families who are struggling in their relationships. You may find the trauma or discord from your past is resulting in unhappy relationships where you feel disconnected or misunderstood. This can include parents feeling frustrated and needing practical strategies, academics navigating a competitive environment, or those overwhelmed by depression, anxiety, or low self esteem who are ready to release unhelpful symptoms. I provide tailored strategies to uncover your powerful authentic self, understand your inner dialogue more fully, and support you in creating more harmony within yourself. I approach sessions with deep listening and recognize that your struggles exist in the context of your environment and life history. I support you in gaining understanding of how some habits of behaving and thinking may be strategies you learned when your needs were not met as a child and are negatively affecting relationships or are causing you suffering. I utilize a variety of treatment approaches that I tailor to your individual situation. I will likely weave mindfulness, self-compassion, knowledge about the nervous system, and communication skill-building into our sessions. I pull from therapeutic modalities such as Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I work with women struggling with stress, anxiety, and relationship conflict, and who long to feel more calm, confident, and well in their relationships. My passion is supporting these women in welcoming and embracing their full humanity, even when they're doubting themselves, and even when they're over the top stressed out and can’t find their way. I have taught Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and facilitated women’s groups for many years, supporting women in standing strong in their truth, needs, and boundaries, while maintaining their capacity to stay connected with and empathic toward others. In addition to my marriage and family therapy training, I am a Certified Nonviolent Communication (NVC)Trainer, have completed a two-year training in the Hakomi Method of mindfulness-based and somatic therapy, and have taken the Internal Family Systems (IFS) Level 1 Training. My practice is thus a blend of IFS, Hakomi, NVC, embodied spiritual practice, and — most importantly — a commitment to supporting my clients in choosing love now without waiting for perfection. As a licensed therapist, I bring everything I’ve learned in this life, personally and professionally, to caring for and supporting my clients well. Informally, my style is warm, relational, and radically accepting. You and all your parts are welcome here, as you are. My role is one of an ally, guiding you toward your own wisdom, your own embodied knowing, and the wholeness that already exists inside of you, and that just needs help coming out of hiding. I live here in Gainesville, Florida with my partner, 13 year-old step-son, and 3 year-old daughter. I love swimming in our springs, floating on our rivers, and all kinds of dance.
