Life’s struggles don’t just go away or clear up on their own. I help people move toward their peak functioning: in academics, employment, or relationships. I focus on helping my clients gain tools, transformed perspectives, and the support they need to gain resilience so they can rise up to meet life as it is instead of hoping it will change for them. In the process, they change their life. Let’s address the root issues so you can move forward. Whether you’re navigating the effects of trauma, debilitated by anxiety, or simply struggling with figuring out who you want to be, let's get to work! After planning to be an English professor, I got into therapy when I realized I didn’t want to write papers about books for the rest of my life—I wanted to talk to people about what matters most to them. Some methods I find helpful for achieving that are: CBT, EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy. I enjoy bike rides, kayaking, tinker crates with my kids and other adventures with my family. I like doing other people's home improvement projects so I can delay my own. I was a foster parent for several years, and I have lived in Kentucky, Ohio, and California. I look forward to getting to know you and helping you be all you are capable of becoming.

It is ok to not always feel ok. I believe you are the expert to your life story and sometimes you may need to be reminded of your strengths. I have been providing support to children and families for more than 15 years. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. After I graduated from William and Mary in 2011 I worked for the Virginia state government, schools to help supporting children/teenagers, couples and families. I believe it is never too late to learn how to take better care of yourself. Most of the people I work with are dealing with uncomfortable feelings, sleepless nights or having a hard time managing their stress. After working with me for a few weeks most of my clients experience more confidence and improve academic achievement after learning social and emotional processing skills.

I work with autistic people who are navigating isolation, depression, and anxiety. I also work with disordered eating and gender dysphoria. At the heart of my work is a commitment to practicing psychological flexibility, the ability to stay present, connect with what matters most, and take action aligned with your values, even when it’s difficult. This allows us to shift from rigid patterns of coping into more empowering ways of engaging. I offer comprehensive psychological testing for autism, ADHD, learning differences, eating disorders, and mood-related issues. I provide evaluations for school/work accommodations and gender-affirming care. You can expect me to approach therapy and assessment from a neurodivergent-affirming, gender diversity-affirming, and body liberation lens. I recognize that many experiences of distress are deeply tied to systems of marginalization, and I strive to create a space where all aspects of your identity are welcomed and honored.

I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, OCD, health anxiety and phobias, such as fear of needles, vomiting (emetophobia), flying, heights, illness or contamination. I also work with clients in challenging professional and academic environments, who may feel anxious or overwhelmed to the point of avoidance, struggle with self-criticism, or fear they won’t be successful without a punishing level of perfectionism. Many clients find themselves holding back from social situations, dating, public speaking, or professional opportunities due to a fear that something will go wrong, and uncertainty feels intolerable. My approach is warm, collaborative, and highly practical, helping you live a life not constrained by fear. I draw primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)—two of the most effective evidence-based treatments for anxiety, OCD, and phobias. I also integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychodynamic thinking, and supportive psychotherapy when helpful. Many clients understandably fear facing their worries or phobias. In our work together, you can expect to feel seen, supported and encouraged as we pursue your goals at a pace that feels manageable to you. I hold a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from George Washington University, and have more than a decade of clinical experience with clients across the lifespan. I am board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, and have trained in a range of academic medical centers and university clinics, including the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Children’s National Hospital, the Kennedy Krieger Institute, and George Washington University. Licensed Clinical Psychologist PsyD in Clinical Psychology Offering sessions via telehealth to clients based in: DC, Maryland, Virginia and all 40+ PSYPACT participating states. I want to help you to become the best version of yourself and to help you advance to your highest potential. I believe you don’t change your life by changing your life, you change your life by changing your mind. In other words, changing your perspective on how you respond to life stressors. Your responses will either cause you to be “bitter” or “better”. I want to help you to understand the thoughts and feelings that influence your actions and behaviors, and to help you gain clarity and insight, to understand the true nature of fear, anxiety and other emotions. I take a relational approach by creating a non-judgmental, empathic environment for my clients using a client-centered approach. I aim to create a safe place to allow you to face, embrace and process any bottled-up feelings you may have. I use a person-centered integrative therapy approach to address how your thoughts, feeling and actions are connected. The goal of The Place of Hope is to help you to change your life, by changing your thinking. When hope's dream seems to drag on and on, the delay can be depressing. But when at last your dream comes true, life's sweetness will satisfy your soul. Feel free to reach out if you would like additional information or are interested in scheduling an appointment.

Practicing through UpLift Mental Health services. Providing support for stress, anxiety, depression through empathy, understanding and tools to utilize for better coping. My main modalities of treatment are mindfulness, CBT and solution focused therapy. With these I have seen growth and stability with my clients. We all have the capability to use tools for good mental health. We just need someone to help us discover and utilize them. I have found from personal experience that when you have a purpose in life you can achieve anything you put your mind to. My counseling style is pretty laid back. I have been described as supportive, caring, and compassionate, with a pretty good sense of humor. I like to focus on identifying strengths to build confidence in the therapeutic process.
