I work frequently with young adults as they manage increasing independence, college and work. I understand the challenges involved with balancing academic requirements, personal stressors and self care. Additionally, I am experienced in helping clients who are wanting to change their relationship patterns and behaviors, and those struggling to find effective ways to deal with symptoms related to depression, anxiety, and codependency. As a clinical psychologist, I assist my clients in meeting their goals and improving their relationships. Therapy is used to improve communication, coping skills and problem solving. One of my areas of expertise is in helping clients who are working through a particularly challenging time in their lives, and having difficulty moving forward from their experience. By encouraging self expression, increased insight and problem solving in therapy, I work collaboratively with clients to facilitate positive changes. Improving self esteem through greater understanding and acceptance of oneself is part of that work.

We offer trauma informed therapy for children, teens, and adults, in-person in South Austin, telehealth available to all Texas residents. I specialize in helping women in their 20s and 30s who are struggling with anxiety in relationships and sex, or those who are processing past sexual trauma or toxic relationships. Many of my clients notice patterns or traits within themselves which are impacting their relationships and intimacy, leaving them feeling disconnected and at a loss for what might help. In addition to my work with adults, I also enjoy working with children and adolescents (ages 3-18), especially those who are neurodivergent or highly sensitive. With a background as a Preschool Teacher, a Registered Behavior Technician working with children on the Autism Spectrum, and as a long-time babysitter, I am able to connect deeply with young people to help them feel understood. My personal experience growing up with undiagnosed ADHD, which manifested as an inability to regulate my emotions, extreme sensitivity, and emotional outbursts, informs this work. I approach this work as an opportunity to nurture my own inner child and offer the support I wish I’d had growing up. I utilize a client-centered, strengths-based approach to play therapy in order to help the children I work with feel safe to express themselves authentically. My approach is compassionate and trauma-informed, integrating Nervous System Regulation, Somatic Experiencing, Attachment Theory, and Trauma-Informed Care to help you rebuild trust in yourself and cultivate healthier relationships. My priority is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel comfortable exploring your emotions and experiences without judgment. In our work together, we’ll explore your past and present, identify patterns, and create a plan for healing.

The number one complaint I hear from my clients about past experiences with therapy is how impersonal and detached their experience felt. They craved more warmth, and a vested interest from their therapist in their growth — an ideal mixture of sincerity, kindness, advocacy, and accountability. Tailor-made for women, my approach weaves together all of these elements, creating a container that provides powerful and life-changing results. A sense of feeling safe, seen, and understood takes precedence over “fixing things,” since I don’t buy into the belief that any of us are broken to begin with. So, if you’re struggling with things like high anxiety, low-self worth, or simply feeling lost, then you’ve come to the right place. Together, we will work to break past your limiting behaviors and create space for self-compassion, deep emotional healing, and enriching relationships.

Are you struggling with symptoms such as anxiety, depression, addiction, or difficulty in relationships, etc.? Have you tried therapy, but not gotten the results you desire? The cause could be past unresolved trauma that is blocking your ability to move forward. Trauma changes the nervous system and brain; therefore, treatment needs to be able to address the body and mind. My holistic approach through EMDR, IFS and other methods will help you get to the root causes and alleviate the disturbing symptoms you are experiencing. I am certified in EMDR treatment and provide a safe space for processing traumatic memories or disturbing life events. I have worked with hundreds of clients and have seen great improvement in a brief time. My clients have said they are amazed at the results and never thought they could feel positive andemor neutral about their past disturbances. I have been described as a trustworthy, compassionate and a calming therapist. I approach each client with respect and kindness. My desire is to help clients open the door for healing in a profound, caring and authentic way. My office is a safe, calm space for you to feel emotionally connected and deeply understood. “Ellen is amazing to work with. She is truly caring and supportive. She helped me so much with what I am going through." “I appreciated the safe space and your calm and non-judgemental approach during our sessions." The transition from high school to college can be a struggle for many students, who may experience feelings of anxiety, boundaries, and guilt during this time. Anxiety can manifest itself in a variety of different ways, such as people-pleasing behaviors, fear, perfectionism, and a general feeling of dissatisfaction. College is about boundaries; learning when to say yes and when to say no to both internal and external pressures. Establishing boundaries is important for the well-being of college students so that they don’t feel overwhelmed with stress or anxiety during this time of transition. If you're feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about your next steps, our individual therapy services can help. We'll work with you to develop a plan that addresses the specific challenges you're facing, and provides you with the tools and support you need to succeed.

You can do hard things, but you're tired, or wondering if things have to be this hard. You take care of yourself, but you still feel lonely or worried. People on the outside might say you're crushing it, but on the inside, sometimes you feel you're being crushed. You have big questions for which there may be no answers. I live in the same world you do, with its profound beauty and heartbreaking flaws. I strive to connect with my clients authentically, and sit with them as we contemplate difficult questions. If you are looking for a warm and collaborative space to process your emotions and maybe get some podcast recommendations along the way, we might be a good fit. Oh, and if the phrase “Highly Sensitive Person” means something to you (or feels like it should), I’ve got you. My clinical expertise is with the young adult population, having spent a decade working in institutions of higher education. My private practice clients are typically in the 18-40ish age range. At this time, my practice is fully online via HIPAA-compliant videoconferencing. Please note, this modality is not suitable for everyone.
