College and early adulthood can be exciting, but they can also feel overwhelming. You may be trying to balance classes, work, relationships, family expectations, and questions about your future, all while wondering if you’re the only one who doesn’t have everything figured out. Maybe you’re feeling anxious, burned out, lonely, stuck, or like you’re constantly overthinking. Many of the students I work with are thoughtful, motivated, and care deeply about doing well. From the outside, they often appear to have it together, but internally they’re struggling with stress, self-doubt, perfectionism, relationship challenges, or feeling disconnected from themselves. Therapy offers a place to slow down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and move forward with greater confidence and clarity. My approach is warm, collaborative, and genuine. I won’t just sit back and nod, I ask thoughtful questions, help you recognize patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and support you in developing healthier ways of coping, communicating, and relating to yourself and others. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and challenged in ways that promote meaningful growth. I provide virtual therapy for college students and young adults throughout Florida, New Mexico, New York, and Texas, making it easier to fit therapy into your busy schedule. If you’re looking for a therapist who is compassionate, engaged, and committed to helping you navigate this stage of life, I’d be honored to work with you.

Hi, I’m Ashley (she/her)! I’m a licensed professional counselor with licenses in Mississippi and Texas. I graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi with my bachelor’s in psychology in 2017 and my master’s in counseling psychology in 2020. I’ve worked in different settings including telehealth, homes, schools, and an acute care inpatient psychiatric hospital. Together, we’ll explore your experiences, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors to expand your self-understanding. That allows us to develop healthier patterns and learn effective coping skills to help create lasting, positive change in a supportive, nonjudgmental space where your safety, growth, and autonomy are prioritized. I have experience supporting clients as they navigate depression, anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, dysfunctional patterns, and life transitions. I provide gender-affirming, LGBTQ+ inclusive, culturally sensitive, person-centered therapy. I believe that each person that comes into this space deserves a treatment approach that is tailored to their unique needs and experiences. To help ensure that, I integrate key parts of various evidence-based treatment approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), internal family systems (IFS), strengths-based therapy, and compassion-focused therapy (CFT) to best meet your needs. I encourage and welcome transparent feedback so we can adjust our approach as needed. There is never a time that it’s too late to do something different or to start something new. Progress takes time, and it’s normal to have ups and downs while still making progress. My goal is to support you through your healing journey and help you become the version of you that you like best. “No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who hasn’t started.” Every day, we make a choice, to continue living in comfortable misery or to take even the smallest step toward being uncomfortably happier; but first, you must choose you.

The transition from high school to college can be a struggle for many students, who may experience feelings of anxiety, boundaries, and guilt during this time. Anxiety can manifest itself in a variety of different ways, such as people-pleasing behaviors, fear, perfectionism, and a general feeling of dissatisfaction. College is about boundaries; learning when to say yes and when to say no to both internal and external pressures. Establishing boundaries is important for the well-being of college students so that they don’t feel overwhelmed with stress or anxiety during this time of transition. If you're feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about your next steps, our individual therapy services can help. We'll work with you to develop a plan that addresses the specific challenges you're facing, and provides you with the tools and support you need to succeed.

Feeling overwhelmed and frustrated by the question 'so what's next after graduation?' Do you feel like you're still trying to figure out who you are, what you like, and just trying to navigate one day at a time? Then, you've come to the right place. I've been in your shoes and I know how hard it is dealing with the pressures from others, while you're just trying to get through your classes and enjoy time with friends. In sessions with me, I strive to offer you a safe space for you to share and process your thoughts, feelings, and current things going on in your life. The therapy space is a space for you, so we will work together to make sure you're getting all the help you need and meeting the goals important to you. And I won't lie sometimes it will be hard fucking work, but I believe you are capable of digging deep and doing that work and I will be there along the way to support, encourage, validate, and at times challenge you.

The clients I see are sometimes in college experiencing feelings of overwhelm or feeling low. These clients describe their challenges as feeling, “como con miedo,” and also, “no se que tengo.” Other clients I see are future counselors who are at the beginning of their careers and facing imposter syndrome ( “I must’ve slipped through the cracks to get to where I am now”), self-criticism (“Why can’t I get my life together!"), or burnout (feeling fatigued and like you can never catch up). These clients are usually part of activist movements or workplaces and I believe in helping the healers that are out in the world making a positive impact on society. I benefited greatly from my own experiences with counseling when I was in grad school (still do) and I hope to provide the same non-judgmental opportunities to cry or laugh or both to future clients. In my work I value humility, curiosity, self-compassion and humor. I believe these are needed to provide authenticity and support at a time when people starting out in their fields of work are taking in new information that is stretching/challenging perspectives and care for the self is a necessity to continue doing challenging work.

Our time together will be spent figuring the aspects- emotional, intellectual, sensory-based, and behavioral- of life through out your own story. Growing into learning how to listen to yourself so you can trust what it is you know, and what it is you need will be at the core of each session so that the feelings of stress, overwhelm, anxiousness, depression no longer keep you detached from yourself. The tools I use are done with cultural considerations, and by acknowledging the extra burdens social constructs and systemic environments put on you. I start with listening and being a witness to your story. With your consent, I use therapeutic tools to assist you in taking an objective stance in your story, and in offering yourself compassion. Continuing through developing and honing in on how you understand your experience through strengthening the connection between your mind and body. I am also trained in and have used EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) with children, teens, adults of both the neurodiverse (Autism, ADHD, etc.) and neurotypical populations. EMDR is used in session, with your consent, when you feel the need to address larger internal hurdles such as phobias or trauma(s) (also known as PTSD or C-PTSD). All of the work will be done at your pace and with your specific needs in mind. I am an affirming counselor and believe counseling should be for everyone. I understand the systemic pressure that can have you trying to “get it right!” A benefit to you may be my stance on de-stigmatizing mental health by avoiding rigid diagnoses and accepting that there is more than one way to live and thrive in this/your world.  I will be ready when you are. Until then, good luck on your search. My license number is #93296. I am supervised by Stamatis Bogdanos, LPC-S | #64556 in Houston, Tx. I help teens and adults with anxiety, perfectionism, trauma, and sleep issues break free from self-limiting beliefs and patterns, so they can live with more freedom and purpose. You might look successful on the outside, but inside, you're caught in a push-pull between productivity and paralysis—swinging between overworking and procrastination, unable to truly rest even when you're drained. Maybe stress is showing up in your body—tension, headaches, trouble sleeping. Or perhaps past experiences have left you feeling disconnected from yourself and others, wondering if you’ll ever feel like yourself again. I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR to help you quiet self-criticism, process past experiences, and reconnect with yourself. For insomnia, I offer CBT-I. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, perfectionism, trauma, or sleep struggles, therapy gives you the space to step out of survival mode, build new skills, and feel more like yourself again. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can see if we’re the right fit. With telehealth sessions available in 40 states and Washington, DC, and in-person appointments in Dallas, therapy has never been more accessible. Ready to take the next step?
