Hello, I’m Ashley! I’m a licensed professional counselor with licenses held in Mississippi and Texas. I offer psychotherapy and psychoeducational services to adolescents and adults of all ages and backgrounds. My work has primarily been with college-aged students and adults in an acute inpatient setting. My practice is general in nature, with proficiency working with depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use disorders. I have experience working with LGBTQ+ persons and do provide gender affirming services. My approach to treatment is cognitive-behavioral (e.g., exploring the integration of thoughts, behaviors, and actions) while incorporating aspects of dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), Gestalt (e.g., whole person), and constructivist school of thought (e.g., how people define individual experiences and develop meaning; being an active part of the change process).

Psychotherapy is a collaborative process, and as such, progress is made depending largely on your investment in the process. It is your responsibility to (1) be an active participant in the treatment process, (2) set and keep appointments or cancel appointments in a timely manner, and (3) help to plan and follow through with therapeutic goals. Throughout the therapeutic relationship, you are encouraged to present suggestions or concerns related to treatment so that necessary adjustments may be made, including but not limited to necessary referrals to other professionals. There are some potential risks to beginning therapy. In the course of working together, additional concerns, as well as a variety of negative or unpleasant emotions, may surface of which you were not initially aware or that were not previously deemed problematic. The greatest risk of counseling is that it may not fully resolve your presenting concern(s). Should questions, concerns, or issues arise during any part of intake or ensuing sessions, you are encouraged to bring these into discussion so that they may be addressed. This is your treatment; it’s all about you and your needs!

Safety first always. At the start of each session, you’ll need to verify where you are so that in the event that there is an emergency or you cannot commit to safety local authorities may be called for help. As we build the therapeutic relationship, we will explore the different facets of what brings you to therapy. Therapy homework will be assigned for you to work out between sessions to help you get the most out of our time together. If at any time telehealth is no longer the most appropriate setting to address your needs, a referral will be provided to a local provider who may be able to provide services in person.
