Welcome! I am a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in Young Adults. I have experience working in college mental health and enjoy working with students from diverse backgrounds. I am LGBTQ+ friendly and hope you feel welcomed and seen in our practice. PRISMA takes most medical insurance with the exception of United Healthcare. I work with the psychiatry residency program teaching 3rd year psychiatry residents so they may also be involved in your medical care. Working with me does require a referral from your primary care doctor which can be done at the Student Health Center.
My passion for counseling has developed through working with various populations. With over 20 years of experience, I am more aware of challenges emotional and mental pain presents to children, adolescents, young adults and adults. I have counseled persons who live with mental illness, are dually diagnosed or have substance use disorders. I became more aware of the ways emotional and mental pain has the ability to debilitate health an stabilization. Individual sessions and group counseling are tools available to assist the client in regaining or achieving a balanced and fulfilling life. I have been counseling as a private practioner for 5 years.
I specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ community because I am part of that community. You should never have to educate, defend or explain your identity to your therapist and you should never have to worry about having that identity invalidated. You are more than your gender and orientation but those identities need to be affirmed. My focus as your therapist is to give you the tools you need to have just one day where you are not overwhelmed with anxiety, fear, shame- whatever it is that feels like it's consuming you. One day where you can wake up in the morning and live. Then, I want to help you make that one day every day. In our first few sessions we go over coping skills and tools you can use on your own to help manage your emotions. Once we build up a tool kit for you then we get to the good stuff- looking for negative beliefs like "I'm not good enough" and uprooting them at their source or exploring your sexual / gender identity to help you better define it for yourself. I know you are not broken, you are not just a label and this is not easy or linear. Call me and we can work this out together.
We are open to all clients in need of services from the most severe illnesses, to those in need of temporary healing. In our experience we have come to realize how important mental health is to one’s overall wellbeing. Our approach for treatment can be summarized in a few words, "no judgement zone." Communication is a very important skill and remains the basis of my treatment as we seek first to understand then to be understood. We encourage our clients to be fully in charge of their treatment. We will be teammates in this journey of reaching your goals. We are firm believers that you are an "expert of you." This means that your treatment will be individual Our goal is to change the stigma of mental health medications. These medications should be viewed as a tool to reach greater heights such as a ladder. This can be a temporary measure to ease the pain of therapy, to quiet the noise or give you the energy you need to fight another day.

Whatever situation brought you to this page, I am glad you are here. You may be navigating relational conflict, overwhelmed by or avoiding certain thoughts and emotions, or perhaps repeating patterns that no longer contribute positively to your life. While daunting and often uncomfortable, change opens the door to personal growth and healing. As your therapist, my role is to provide guidance and support as you navigate through and beyond these challenging experiences, helping you enjoy the beautiful moments in life and develop resilience in the face of adversity. In sessions, a primary goal is often reducing symptoms to enhance your daily life. Once symptoms are managed, our focus typically shifts towards uncovering and understanding the origins of these issues. This exploration may involve processing past events, reevaluating self-perceptions, and healing relationships, including the one you have with yourself. I value the therapeutic relationship and see it as a foundation for your work. Our dynamic offers a comfortable and safe space to access and express emotions and hold overwhelming situations. It is also a safe base to return to after new changes and experiences. I am committed to accompanying you on this path. Please reach out to ensure we are a good fit!
Life is… complicated. Even at the best of times. When intense emotional concerns join the mix, it can feel like the walls are caving in. Whether it be an acute situation or a chronic concern, I work with my clients to strengthen their connection with their own values to rediscover their inherent power to move themselves closer to living their most genuine and fulfilling life. I aid them in unraveling the tangle that our internal experiences can become so they can see a clearer picture.
I love college students and working with them! They teach me so much and are filled with such unique perspectives and ideas. If you are struggling with a crisis, transition or life in general, I would be honored to walk with you as you unravel those things you are struggling to figure out or process. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, and I look forward to meeting with you.

Do you have anger, depression, anxiety, stress or something close to this that you feel you need to talk about? Are you going through a divorce, a remarriage, or having problems with your sexual life? Is something new and big happening in your life that you need help coping with or understanding? Or do you just feel like you need to talk to someone, and would like a safe environment and a listening ear to do so? Everyone needs a little help at some point in their life, and even as adults, it is more than alright to ask for it. The only issue, then, is who to go to for that help? We all have something we struggle with, but it does not have to ruin us. Overwhelming feelings, thoughts, and overanalyzing can leave you feeling resentful, anxious, stressed, and at times, defeated. Life can present us with challenges that may feel overwhelming, and I believe seeking therapy is an act of strength. My approach to therapy is rooted in DBT, a research-based and holistic treatment empowering clients to manage emotions, build resilience, and build healthier relationships. Having worked with various personality and mood disorders, I have an understanding of how difficult it can be to navigate these diagnoses on your own. Through a compassionate and non-judgmental environment welcoming all race/ethnicities, genders, and sexual orientations, we will work as a team to create a safe space where you can freely explore your feelings, thoughts, and concerns. A little about me: Aside from therapy, I enjoy hiking, anime, photography, video games, and reading. I look forward to beginning this journey as a team.
