Teresa views healing through an attachment and biopsychosocial lens, meaning that there are many intersecting areas of life (biological, psychological, social/relational) that all impact wellness. Teresa is trained in EMDR, IFS, LI (Lifespan Integration), Pain Management, and Spiritual Trauma. She uses an intersectional, attachment and strength-based approach, along with many individualized interventions to help her clients reach their goals. Several years after experiencing personal healing from severe depression, trauma, and social anxiety, Teresa completed her Masters in Counseling and is now a Licensed Professional Counselor. Teresa considers it a privilege to work with every client, and has experience working with men/women/nonbinary, LGBTQiA+, adolescents, folks in recovery, and survivors of domestic violence. In my practice I work with children, teens, and adults who are having a hard time understanding, communicating about, and coping with their emotions and experiences. I enjoy collaborating with folks to find the right therapeutic container for the work that will offer ease, growth, and healing in daily life and beyond. This looks different for everyone and I’ve found that art, music, play therapy, and somatic inquiry are some of the ways I lean into building a therapeutic container that is attuned to each person's unique needs. I have experience and strength in working with 2SLGBTQIA+, BIPOC, Chronically sick, Disabled, Neurodiverse, Children, Youth, Families, and Communities with a focus on cultural experiences, queer and trans experiences, life transitions, and trauma recovery.

As a neurodivergent therapist, I bring a unique perspective to my practice, embracing diversity in all its forms. My approach is firmly rooted in anti-racism, LGBTQ+ affirmation, and gender inclusivity, while actively promoting neurodiversity acceptance. My spiritually open mindset allows me to respect and explore various belief systems. Drawing from extensive clinical experience, I empower clients to navigate and challenge oppressive systems that often underlie emotional distress. My commitment to inclusive practices ensures that each individual's intersecting identities are acknowledged and valued throughout our work together. I create a safe space for clients of all body types and sexual expressions, maintaining a sex-positive and kink-friendly stance. In my therapeutic practice, I bring my whole, authentic self to every session. As an intuitive feeler (INFJ), I approach my work with a deep sense of empathy and insight. My core values significantly shape my therapeutic style, with a strong emphasis on fostering creativity, ensuring safety, upholding integrity, and embracing new experiences that catalyze positive change. I particularly value the development of relational depth in therapy, believing that a strong, genuine connection between therapist and client is fundamental to the healing process. This authentic approach allows me to create a space where clients feel truly seen, understood, and supported as they navigate their personal growth journey.

Some of my specialty areas include working with clients who have experienced attachment trauma in their families of origin and have struggled with codependency or self-worth wounds. I frequently work with queer clients and with those who are questioning or exploring meaning and purpose relative to their larger societal or spiritual life, particularly those who find themselves outside the mainstream in their sexuality, beliefs, or social values. I provide assistance with communications, boundary-setting and interpersonal difficulties and focus on depth and narrative work with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy framing, including present-moment and somatic emphasis of emotional experience.
I recognize that seeing a therapist can feel like a big step to take. It is the beginning of a new relationship, a change to how you have been living, and a reflection on how you got to where you are today. For all of these reasons it is normal to feel anxiety or stress about making sure you find the right fit in a counselor. I believe in approaching counseling through a holistic lens, considering the ways that your environment, work or school related stress, relationships, social systems, and traumatic or other lived experiences might affect you in the present. With these considerations, I will support you in building a greater sense of self-awareness, allowing you to develop tools to live more closely in line with your values and aspirations. I work with clients in a manner that is both sensitive and analytical. You might be coming to counseling with something very specific that you would like to work on, or you might be unsure why things are not feeling right in your life. Perhaps you are feeling like your life is not going the way you had hoped, and you are missing a sense of purpose, excitement, or connection. Maybe you are struggling to change a behavior, relationship structure, or just the way that you're feeling day to day. In all of these cases, I will support you in figuring out the best path forward. My goal is to create a compassionate, collaborative space where you can better understand your experiences, resolve internal and relational conflicts, and move toward a more authentic and fulfilling life.

This can lead to anxiety, depression, poor coping skills, substance use, and many other dis-eases. The good news is that we all have the potential to reconnect with our authentic self and heal! My approach to therapy and healing involves reconnection with our true selves, our body, and the present moment through compassionate listening, non-judgement and curiosity. For over 20 years, I have been providing therapy, assessment, and crisis services to our community. I believe in relationship and proven therapies to guide healing, well-being, greater insight, and confidence in your ability to grow and change. I approach this through appreciating your experience, seeing your strengths, and keeping your front and center in the process. It is my belief that deeply understanding yourself and being deeply understood go hand-in-hand with healing. In our work together, I will support you in exploring your inner world, your relationships, and your history. I am guided by psychodynamic theory, while also being relational in my approach. This means that I aim to be spacious enough for you to vulnerably and bravely explore, and relational enough for you to feel safe to do-so. The people I work with often struggle with self-esteem, relationships, identity, communication, depression, and anxiety. No matter the concern you bring, we will work together to make sense of what is going on for you, and move you toward feeling better. I am able to work with you via Telehealth in Oregon and Washington, and in-person at my office on NE Alberta in Portland.
