Therapists for college students near Calvin University
Seeing a therapist can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. We work hard to match you with the best therapist for your needs, so that you can feel comfortable and supported throughout your journey.
My priority as your therapist is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space that allows you to navigate life’s stressors and to also provide guidance in helping you meet your identified goals. My approach to treatment focuses on the perspective that you are the expert; you know your emotions, thoughts and experiences best. I affirm and honor all identities and practice from a person-centered, strengths based, social justice informed approach.
Hi there! I am so excited to sit with you and be present as you engage in the therapeutic process. Taking the walk to receive the care you deserve is often the hardest step, so I am excited to be here with you to cheer you through it! In this life, we face a whirlwind of different scenarios that may create ups and downs in our timeline. And even more often, our internal voice may guide us in a way that sets us back. Together, as we establish our therapeutic relationship, I will work with you to empower you and help you explore how to reach your full potential! As a growing counselor, I have been able to gain a breadth of different experiences throughout my education. Hailing from Western Michigan University, I have had experiences working with individuals with developmental disabilities (behavioral) and was fascinated by people’s different stories and how all of our domains in life affect us in so many different ways! As I embarked on the clinical route, I have had experience working in individual and group counseling settings. As a neurodivergent individual myself, I understand what it’s like to feel those struggles inside and outside of ourselves. I aim to create a space for you to have that voice, the tools, and structural pieces to bring to the outside world. In our work, I often explore from a CBT, DBT, ACT, person-centered, and/or humanistic perspective. I also integrate faith-based counseling, spirituality counseling, as well as mindfulness based practices to help navigate the intersection between physical and mental growth. I work with anyone in our space from ages 13-100+, offering both individual and, now, group services (please reach out for more info on group, if interested)! In this space, my biggest goal is to recognize, ensure, and promote your safety and comfort, and collaboratively create a plan tailored to your success and well-being with the right tools for you. I will act as the facilitator to your growth, where you will always be the expert. My clinical interests involve working with neurodivergent individuals (autism, ADHD), life transitions, self-identity, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, anger management, boundary-setting/communication, relationship issues, as well as trauma-focused work. I’m excited to meet with you and look forward to what’s to come!

River City Psychological Services is a group of psychologists, professional counselors, and social workers striving to create a safe environment where people of all ages can grow and heal. We provide mental health therapy and counseling to people who experience problems related to anxiety, depression, mood disorders, relationship stressors, and reactions to grief. Many of our clinicians have had focused training related to providing psychotherapy services to people who struggle with addiction, as well as people who have been through traumas, including childhood abuse. We have clinicians who focus on working in the areas of life transitions, spirituality, relationships, and multicultural issues. We offer ADHD psychological testing and evaluation, as well as the thorough documentation many schools, universities, and physicians require for accommodations. We offer letter writing for support and advocacy for the transgender community for coordination of care.
I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy and value my client's life experiences and the knowledge that they bring into the therapeutic relationship. I tend to work interpersonally and view the therapeutic relationship as a tool for gaining insight into personal struggles, as well as a venue to practice new behaviors and boundaries. I enjoy working with clients from diverse backgrounds and life experiences and while I am trained as a generalist, I have particular interests in working with depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, body image, gender identity and socialization. My experiences in a variety of settings including college counseling centers, Veteran's Affairs, inpatient addiction rehabilitation center, consultation center, domestic violence advocacy organization, and adolescent homeless shelter are a particular strength of my clinical work and allow me to uniquely provide real-world application for my clients concerns.
I specialize in supporting young adults as they navigate the many transitions that come with this stage of life—figuring out who they are, where they belong, and how they want to move through the world. Young adulthood can be a time of questioning, unlearning, and redefining yourself, especially after years of being told who you should be, what you should want, or how you should show up. At the heart of my work is a deep commitment to helping clients reconnect with their own voice—particularly when that voice has been shaped, silenced, or overshadowed by grief, anxiety, depression, or powerful systems and environments. In a loud, opinionated world, learning to listen to yourself and speak from a place of authenticity can feel daunting. My goal is to help you build trust in your inner voice and feel more confident using it—whether that means setting boundaries, expressing needs, or simply allowing yourself to take up space. I view therapy as a collaborative process, walking alongside you as you explore your identity, emotions, values, and the version of yourself you’re becoming. My approach is integrative and holistic, drawing from art therapy techniques, nervous system regulation, and mindfulness practices to support growth, healing, and self-connection. Starting therapy can feel intimidating, and the fact that you’re here exploring different profiles already says a lot about your courage. I’m really glad you found mine. Let’s connect and explore how we can support your healing and wellness together. Reach out for a free 15-minute consultation—available in person, by phone, or via Zoom.

Do you find it challenging to relax and enjoy the present moment, especially in difficult times filled with fear and uncertainty? Are you struggling to quiet your inner critic? Do you have a hard time sitting with intense emotions, naming them, and expressing them to others? I work with female and queer clients who want to feel more grounded, present, and empowered in their lives. Things such as trauma, substance use, anxiety, and depression can impact our ability to connect with our bodies, feel our feelings, and experience safety in the present moment. In addition to talk therapy, I offer somatic therapy: Brainspotting (which is similar to EMDR) and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Somatic therapy uses a bottom-up approach of feeling vs. thinking. The body contains so much intuitive wisdom, and being able to sit with challenging sensations – in a safe and controlled way – can lead to better emotion regulation. Therapy can be challenging, so I strive to provide a light-hearted, non-judgmental space where humor and laughter become a part of the process. If I could be a good fit for you, email me to schedule a free consultation, or to schedule an initial session.

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here. My name is Bethany and I use the pronouns she/her. Counseling is a big step; I want to help you find a way to live more authentically the life you want and help you step into your power. We are all unique and have our own desires and goals. As your counselor, it is not my job to tell you what to do. I am here to help you through the process, provide tools, and build a relationship that supports you as an individual. I think it is most important to meet my clients where they're at and it is likely no one counseling style will fit perfectly. I have experience providing CBT, DBT, TF-CBT, and solution focused therapy. However, while some aspects of these therapy styles may be present, it is more important to provide a safe supportive environment to learn and grow. I firmly believe that counseling should be a judgement free zone and I offer unconditional positive regard as a cornerstone of my counseling style. My background is in working with youth who have experienced trauma. I offer queer and trans affirming therapy and advocacy.
Counseling is a personal and unique process for each person. I facilitate each client’s unique process, and walk alongside the client, shoring up their strengths and making use of our relationship to bring about positive change. The therapeutic process can be challenging at times, and I work with the client to fully experience the joys and sorrows that are part of life, striving to feel a wide range of emotions. I enjoy working with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Starting up the counseling process can feel unknown and scary, and I’ll honor the vulnerability you show in reaching out.

An essential part of our lives is creating and maintaining connections: to ourselves, other people, and the world around us. Sometimes, those connections require extra attention, in order to get the most out of life. I would be honored to walk with you through the process of learning about and cultivating that inner and outer connectedness. I work from a person-centered, holistic, and mindfulness-based approach. This means that I try to help my clients explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, while practicing to re-regulate their body sensations in the moment. If this sounds like what you’re looking for, let’s connect! It's easiest for me to communicate by email, so if you reach out with a brief description of what you'd like help with we can get the process started.
