Therapists for college students near Athens, GA
My name is Alexa DeVilmé. As a Master of Social Work intern therapist, I am passionate about working with diverse communities and bringing awareness to the importance of mental wellness, emotional expression, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Whether you are navigating life transitions, stress, identity development, or emotional challenges, my goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you can explore, grow, and feel empowered in your journey. As an intern therapist, I am committed to learning, growing, and providing compassionate, evidence-informed care under supervision. I believe therapy should be a collaborative and empowering space where you feel heard, supported, and understood. My approach centers on meeting you where you are, honoring your unique experiences, and supporting you in developing insight, resilience, and creating change. I look forward to walking alongside you in your healing process. I do not work with insurance, however, I offer a very generous sliding scale of $20 - $60 per session. With your consent, our sessions may be recorded as a way for me to learn how to become better at my work, however the recordings would not be on internet connected devices. I am receiving supervision from Robert Ross, LCSW and Shannon Bowles, PhD, during my internship with Meristem Therapy Services.
Finding a place where you feel genuinely heard, understood, and valued is hard. Have you ever felt like it was almost impossible to navigate spaces because you felt like your emotions were too big, or who you are is not enough or allowed? Maybe you're seeking a safe, understanding place to explore your identity or struggles with someone who "gets it." No matter what brings you here, I'm glad you're here. Together, we will create a space where your whole, authentic self is welcomed, affirmed, and valued. My approach is dynamic, and in addition to traditional talk therapy, I'm also passionate about incorporating art therapy, play therapy, and recreational therapy into sessions. Whether you thrive on structured exercises and worksheets or cringe at the thought of therapy feeling like a chore, I'm here to meet you where you are.

Jim is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Science Education, a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, and a Specialist Degree in Professional School Counseling, all from the University of Georgia. He has also completed the necessary coursework to become a BCBA (board certified behavior analyst), and is completing his supervision hours as part of the certification process. Jim has experience in the K-12 field of public education, post-secondary education, as well as the field of mental health. His work consists of working with children, adolescents, adults, and families, primarily in school settings. Jim believes therapy is often sought when a person begins having irrational thoughts and starts a downward spiral of negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. His desire is to help build a trusting, professional environment in which the person begins to gain another perspective, and to realize they are beginning a pattern of self-destructive thinking. Jim's theoretical orientation includes person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-informed care/therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
My clinical practice is grounded in an emotion-focused framework that emphasizes collaboration, autonomy, empathy, relationship-building, and cultural humility. I view the therapeutic relationship as dynamic and relational. We grow and change together in the process. Authenticity is central to my work. I approach therapy as a whole person. I carry my identities, personality, and lived experiences with me. I believe that, when I show up fully, it creates space for you to do the same. My goal is to offer you an emotionally safe environment where you can show up with all parts of yourself - your identities, feelings, stories, strengths, and struggles - without fear of judgment. I want you to feel deeply seen, heard, and valued for the whole person that you are. My approach is trauma-centered and am queer, CNM, and polyamory affirming. I am a World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) certified provider.
