I work with a group of professional psychologists who provide expertise and understanding for your mental health needs. We provide services for clients ages 15 and up.
My professional experience has provided opportunities to work in a variety of clinical settings including correctional & substance abuse facilities. However, my work as a Child Welfare Caseworker has strongly driven my passion for working with children, adolescents, and adults as it relates to previous & current trauma, adoption, attachment, and relationship issues. Also specializing in anxiety, depression, grief/loss, adjustment, and other areas of concern. Together we will explore how negative thoughts and experiences have reinforced the perception of oneself and outside world, and how to replace negative thinking patterns to increase self-worth leading to fulfilling relationships and connections. I view the counseling process as forming a trusting relationship with you to explore the nature of who you are, why you are, and the nature of the problems you face. I use an eclectic approach including a variety of counseling theories to meet an individual where they are at as a way to address their personal needs. I am passionate about helping individuals determine or rediscover their values and beliefs which create their true authentic self, as my work is grounded in empathy, non-judgement, and inclusivity. My belief is that everyone can benefit from therapy and having the support of an unbiased person to talk to. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is based on the belief that our thoughts create our feelings, and that if we change our negative thinking our feelings will change. CBT teaches that it is not the event which causes the emotion (and our behavioral reaction) but the meaning we give that event - or what we think ABOUT that event. There are many powerful tools that have been developed to help you change your negative thoughts and feelings. Working with a Mental Health Therapist will help you learn how to use those tools to make changes in your life and relationships. I graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver with an M.A. in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Couple and Family Therapy. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Sex Therapist through the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. I am extensively trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and EMDR. I have been in private practice since 2010. My primary areas of focus are relationships, sexuality, trauma, depression and anxiety. My therapeutic approaches are based in Attachment Theory, Experiential Theory and Trauma Theory. I enjoy helping clients to access emotions, understand motivations and deepen relationships (with themselves and others). My style is warm, authentic and collaborative. I pride myself on being straightforward and honest and want to help people to genuinely connect with themselves and significant others. I truly enjoy my work and have a great deal of respect for my clients’ efforts and progress. I am proud to have worked with people from a variety of cultures, backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities, and religious/spiritual traditions.
I identify as a Togolese immigrant, daughter, sister, fur-mom, and wife in an interracial marriage. These identities influence how I show up as a therapist and constantly evolve each day. Clients enjoy working with me because I am warm, engaging and relatable. I create a safe therapeutic space to explore all that my clients bring to sessions. I have a cozy office in Arvada for in-person sessions, and offer virtual therapy as well.
