Over my time in practice, I have come to learn that much of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors stem from parental figures and relationships, childhood experiences, significant life events, as well as responses to the here and now. My goal is to work collaboratively with you, to support you, and to assist you in attending to what you feel is important through the cultivation of a strength-based, empathetic, and warm environment.

Melvinik Simmons was born and raised in Brownsville Brooklyn, New York. Growing up in a single parent household in the projects of Brooklyn was challenging. Where she comes from truly makes her the person she is today. "I saw everything that you can imagine, drugs, violence, even witnessing my childhood friend jump off a building". She knew at a young age people were "broken and felt helpless". Melvinik’s passion and mission is to inspire people and work with them to achieve their goals. "I am not only a therapist, but I care a great deal about my clients who I work with". "I am you and you are me" My mission is to help heal broken hearts. "I have been through a lot of what you may be going through, and I am here to tell you that healing is possible". Melvinik has been in the helping profession for over 20 years. She specializes in depression, grief/loss, anxiety and PTSD. She was a social worker for several foster care agencies, a supervisor for a crisis unit, a counselor for YMCA, and a therapist in the behavioral health department for several years at Richmond University Medical Center (N.Y) and St Luke University Health Network (P.A.). She has been in private practice (Talk Trust Heal LLC) for 4 years providing virtual therapy to clients in N.Y. P.A. and S.C. where she currently resides. She has an integrative approach combined with different styles, modalities, and methods to promote wellness. "I don't have a "one size fit's all approach" I immediately like to start where my clients are and offer a non-judgmental platform where they are able to talk in a safe environment. She is dedicated and committed to her clients and their mental health. Her motto is "Trust the therapeutic process, talk about the presenting issues and heal".

Do emotions take over and exhaust you? Have people marveled at how resilient you are or mentioned your sensitivity as a liability? Maybe you sometimes wonder if you’re the only one who is seeing the hurt and pain all around. It’s likely you have figured out how to adapt to what the world wants you to be. You present the part of yourself that is widely accepted by your community and our social systems, but what about the rest of YOU? We always hear that college is the best days of our lives, but it is also a time a self discovery. That discovery process can be painful, and I can help. I guide young adults to connect to their inherent worth, power, and self-compassion. I work collaboratively with clients and draw from an expansive toolbox including body-oriented practices, talk therapy, and expressive arts. I am well suited to work with clients who are interested in mindfulness meditation and other body-based exercises to be the center of their therapeutic experience. My scope of practice includes anxiety, grief, burn-out, persistent depression, relational stressors, survivors of sexual trauma, and those navigating life as an artist. I align with clients whose identities and values defy society's conventional norms. My practice is trauma-informed, and I am dedicated to an anti-oppression, anti-racist, body positive, LGBTQIA+ affirming and equitable lens.

I have enjoyed being in the mental and behavioral health field for over 12 years working with children, adolescents, and adult. As a licensed behavioral consultant, I've supported families and children with Autism, ADHD, and mood-related disorders. As licensed professional counselor, I've empowered individuals through experiences relating to trauma, grief, divorce, adjustment, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and anger management. I am grateful for the honor and privilege to be present with you in your inspiring story; with more to still be written. I value a client-centered orientation to embrace each unique person and to individualize treatment to most effectively support accomplishing goals. I use cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, behavior-modification, and play therapy as therapeutic approaches to cultivate growth by focusing care for each specific need. Accepting new clients, children, teens, and adults for virtual therapy in Pennsylvania statewide! Please reach out directly to me by phone or email listed in my website under the contact page. Therapy is a space where healing, growth, and clarity can begin and I’m here to walk alongside you in that process. Whether you're navigating relationship challenges, life transitions, anxiety, or simply feeling stuck, we’ll work together to find a path forward that feels authentic and sustainable. I’m a licensed professional counselor in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, working with adults and teens. I earned my master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and have extensive experience using a range of therapeutic approaches tailored to each client’s unique needs. My approach is warm, collaborative, and supportive. I strive to create a space where you feel safe, heard, and empowered. In our sessions, we’ll explore patterns, address unhelpful cycles, and build new, healthier ways of moving through the world. Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy drinking coffee, crocheting, hiking, and spending time outdoors. I also have a deep love for plants and find peace in caring for them.

I am a lover of liminal spaces. To me, the liminal, the “in-between”, is a space of great possibility. It lies at the edge of certainty and uncertainty. It beckons us to drop what we think we know and be with what is actually present. My identities and life experiences give me a sense of being “in-between.” I’m a gender fluid, Puerto Rican person who grew up in the diaspora. I grew up in a military family and spent my childhood moving from place to place. As an adult, I continued to move, spending years living and working in the Pacific Islands and Latin America. I explore liminal spaces in my exploration of fiber art, as well as in my music. I love to create new combinations of seemingly opposing elements, whether that is an innovative way of weaving or creating a folksy version of a salsa song. As a therapist, my “in-between” experiences reinforce my belief that when we can stay present in the place of flux, of uncertainty, then change and transformation is possible. I have spent over 8 years providing somatic, present-moment focused, and intuitive psychotherapy to survivors of sexual violence, sexual abuse and individuals experiencing grief. I combine extensive training in Gestalt therapy, Internal Family Systems, psychedelic-assisted therapy and mindfulness-based interventions to aid clients in creating lives they love. My activism and commitment to social justice come to bear in years of experience in community mental health. I believe that personal healing is bound in collective healing, that we are all threads in the larger tapestry of life. Through my practice, I aim to empower individuals to invest in their wholeness, health, and joy, recognizing that we are all the medicine we need.

Do you feel unsatisfied with the path you’re on? I specialize in work with college students and twenty-somethings who are navigating new life stages and want to learn more about themselves. Maybe you’re adjusting to starting/leaving college, or a new job. Or you’re looking to set boundaries as you gain independence from your family. I’m here to help you bridge the gap between your life now and what you want your life to look like, while also giving new meaning to the experiences that led you to where you are. I not only bring educational & professional experience to my practice, but also empathy & realness that comes from confronting my own personal challenges. Anxiety, self-doubt, low-self esteem, perfectionism, job dissatisfaction & relationship issues are common struggles of a quarterlifer as you navigate transitions in your 20s. Together we can separate those problems from who you are as a person, learn about the role they play in your life, develop ways to cope, & move forward towards your ideal life. I also work with those pursuing a career as a therapist. Whether you're a psychology or social work student considering grad school, you're a grad school student adjusting to your internship, or you're wondering if a career as a therapist is for you - I have years of experience helping students navigate the field and find a path that feels right for them.

Trying to find the right therapist in the middle of exams, papers, and trying to maintain a social life can feel overwhelming. I'm so glad you are here anyway! The most important things in finding a therapist is: 1) Finding someone you feel comfortable with- I work hard to make sessions as relaxed and comfortable as possible. I am approachable and welcoming. 2) Finding a therapist who will help you grow- In addition to providing you with a safe space to talk, I also teach you valuable skills for more effectively managing your emotions, relationships, life and communication skills. I also specialize in working with people who have experienced trauma, and find themselves stuck and unable to move forward with their life. Hope, healing, and growth are always possible. Feel free to email me. I hope to hear from you soon.
