Therapists for college students near 10003
When life presents us with challenges and unexpected turns, we are given options for an opportunity for change; to not allow them to define our present or our future. Many of us face difficult situations that can get in the way of a full, satisfying life. Each individual has the strength within to grow and find a healthy balance. Sometimes, we need a little extra guidance to see that life's challenges can be transformed into healing opportunities. Therapy can offer a breath of hope to those who feel lost, stuck and alone. One of the most important factors in successful therapy is finding a therapist that you feel comfortable with. Therapy also provides exploration on learning how to find your true sense of self. Working together helps develop a better understanding of yourself, while re-claiming your personal strengths. It takes courage to start the process of building a trusting, therapeutic relationship. Finding the right fit in a therapist is a really important step. Telling your story and gaining a deeper understanding of yourself will have an enormous, positive impact. Let's connect to uncover your full potential.
Hi there! My name is Catherine, and thank you for visiting my profile. I understand the challenges and excitement that come with finding a therapist that you feel you can "click" with, as this is YOUR journey, and you deserve to feel comfortable, heard, and validated during your therapeutic process with a provider that is attentive, present, and engaged. I value the therapeutic process as the therapist, and understand the time and energy it takes as the client (you) to be vulnerable, honest, and trusting. I am a safe-space for you to begin this healing journey. As a therapist, my main goal is to meet you where you are at in your healing journey. We will explore your insight into your personal morals and values that keep you grounded and motivated as a person, as well as discuss and explore any discrepancies you may be currently facing that may be testing your personal strength, and causing any self-doubt. Whether you have been in therapy for most of your life, or this is your first ever time reaching out for support in a therapeutic setting, please don't hesitate to give me a call to explore therapy and therapeutic options for you.

Sometimes you wonder: When did life become so tough? Many things can knock us off balance. Betrayal from friends. Abuse by a trusted one, and the numbing shock of PTSD. Grief and loss. Trauma doesn’t look the same for every person. The common lie my clients tell themselves is, “It’s not that bad, other people have it worse.” You’re not other people, and if your life is being impacted by heavy emotions you’re carrying, you’re allowed to get help. Everything that happens to you, matters. I help people break through the overwhelm. I'm a board-certified psychotherapist specializing in trauma and PTSD, including trauma from abuse, rape, sexual assault and relationship violence. My collaborative approach focuses on your strengths, creating a safe environment that fosters growth. It’s important for someone to be in your corner - not to judge you, or tell you what to do, but to truly listen to you and guide you as you heal.

I earned my PsyD (Doctor of Psychology) degree at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and I have worked in different settings including university/community counseling centers, dual diagnosis treatment centers, and psychiatric hospitals (Austen Riggs Center). I work from a psychoanalytic orientation. This approach emphasizes the importance of both past and present experiences, relationships, emotions, patterns of being, and the unconscious. While it is natural to want to move away from suffering, it is when we give it a voice that healing can begin. Though genetics can play a role in the development of psychiatric problems; symptoms are some of the ways our psyche and body deal with pain that has not been understood, contextualized, and articulated. My goal as a psychoanalytic therapist is to help my patients notice how their symptoms are not accidental experiences to dodge, but rather meaningful communications to explore. Only through this inquiry can patients tap into interpersonal and intrapersonal as well as conscious and unconscious phenomena that have shaped their life and continue to contribute to their suffering.

She is dedicated and committed to her clients and their mental health. Her motto is "Trust the therapeutic process, talk about the presenting issues and heal".
Students who find me most helpful are often trying to figure out who they are as separate but connected to their parents and family. I especially love working with first gen and immigrant students because I am both. I have lived and worked on four continents and English is actually not my first language, so students who are navigating intercultural issues also find it easy to connect with me. In terms of the kinds of issues students work with me on, it includes: depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship worries, fear of failure, and self esteem. I look forward to hearing from you!
