Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
Cultures are tricky even when we live in the same country. Do you feel it's difficult to be fully understood? Do you feel 'conflict with others' happen often? Sometimes, we feel lonely, lost, and discouraged when going through life transitions, good or bad. Transition could be a break-up, a loss of a loved one, a new cultural/sexual identity, starting in a new school or new semester. You don’t have to go through those transitions alone. Therapy is a safe space for you to explore the complex emotions that come with those changes. I take an integrative approach in helping you realize your own potential to achieve wellness. Knowing Cantonese and Mandarin allows me to understand my client's perspective from their own native language.

Hi! I am an EMDR-Certified and AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist with a specialization in working with college students (both "traditional" and "non-traditional"). I deeply enjoy getting to work with folks who are looking to address challenges they might be experiencing in their relationships: their relationships to partners, friends, family members, and importantly, to themselves. Many life experiences may lead us to feel in disconnection with ourselves: whether you have experienced relational or institutional trauma, are navigating multiple life transitions (e.g. beginning a new degree, receiving a new medical diagnosis), or are exploring social, sexual or gender identity, I am here to help you reconnect with yourself and take steps forward in your healing journey.
Our experience enables us to offer effective outpatient and individualized psychotherapy. We treat a number of mental health disorders, and provide a neutral ground to individuals. We offer both virtual and in person services. What better then to receive support from the comfort of your own home.
Why are bios so embarrassing? A bit about me, I view issues through a systems-based lens. I use person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and an integration of several other therapies to help my clients work through relationship issues, job and life stress, identity, anxiety, adjusting, and depression- to list a few. I strive to provide a safe, warm, and welcoming environment for my clients and strongly believe in the therapeutic relationship to strengthen progress. I look forward to going on a journey and doing work with you. Come and see me!
When it comes to therapy, I engage each person, focusing on their uniqueness and the reason they are seeking therapy. I applaud everyone that has made the decision to be proactive regarding their mental health and to put forth the effort to address circumstances, either past or present, that have caused disruptions and undesired outcomes in their lives. I would like to support you in any way I can to produce positive outcomes in the most ethical, professional, and compassion filled way possible. I have 13 years of social service experience, working with the homeless population, for Child Protective Services, with employment services for homeless veterans, managing transitional housing facilities, and working inpatient psychiatric patient care in the state of Michigan in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb county. My career experience also includes military, as I have served active duty in the United States Marines and volunteered to deploy to Iraq (bordering Syria) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

My path started by working in alternative high schools, and then as a career counselor in management and business development roles for a few universities and military populations. I have over 18 years of experience working in education, career development, and mental health. My experience growing up in Flint, Michigan, and being the first in my family to attend college, shaped how I view and overcome challenges. I specialize in support for working professionals, especially teachers, nurses, and students with anxiety or depression who are struggling in their careers, education, or relationships. Many feel stuck, burnt out, angry, and overwhelmed. Chronic stress makes it hard for them to connect with their instructors, bosses, and peers. Time management is an issue and constantly trying to keep up. Some may prefer to be alone, even though it leads to ruminating over traumatic work experiences and substance use. My clients have demanding jobs and/or class schedules, and are highly trained and accustomed to solving problems. However, no one is immune to the long-term effects of stress and trauma. I have over 18 years working in counseling, higher education, and career development. My communication style is warm, yet solution-focused, often encouraging you to think from the end, build your resilience, and focus on the future. Some clients get what they need to make a positive change in 6-8 sessions. Others enjoy my long-term support to address trauma. First time trying talk therapy? Congrats on taking the first step. I value confidentiality and understand the college campus and workplace cultures. You do not have to go through this alone. Let's get you out of survival mode and start to thrive. Reach out to schedule your complimentary 15-minute consultation today. I look forward to talking with you.

Being surrounded by other college students doesn't always protect you from feeling lonely or overwhelmed. College and graduate school can feel very isolating and challenging. Starting therapy can be the first step toward realizing that you don't have to carry these challenges alone. I am currently accepting new clients at Mindful Counseling, Standale location and via Telehealth. I work with adults seeking support for anxiety, depression, relationship and family challenges, emotional regulation, separation and attachment anxiety, life transitions, and identity development. I especially enjoy working with college students and young adults as they navigate increased independence, adjusting to college, academic and career pressures, and discovering who they are. Whether you're seeking support during a difficult season of life, greater clarity, or personal growth, I'm committed to partnering with you throughout the therapeutic process. My approach is integrative and individualized, drawing from CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, mindfulness-based and somatic interventions, and person-centered therapy. I tailor treatment to each client's unique needs and developmental stage, with an emphasis on emotional regulation, self-awareness, resilience, and building on existing strengths. I strive to create a compassionate, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable being themselves. I believe therapy is a shared human experience where we work together toward understanding, healing, and growth. Meaningful change happens through connection, collaboration, and a strong therapeutic relationship. If you're interested in learning more or scheduling a consultation, I'd love to connect. The Standale office is especially convenient for students, just five minutes from GVSU's Allendale campus, within walking distance of the Laker Line stop, and about 15 minutes from GVSU's downtown campus and Aquinas College. I look forward to connecting with you!
