Therapists for college students near Northeastern University
I am well versed in the transition from high school to college. I am familiar with college expectations, the challenges of making new friends, and learning how to be independent. College can be such an exciting time but also really hard! It is so important to learn strategies to manage stress and having a safe place to talk about whatever you need.
Sometimes it's really hard for us to ask for help-especially when you're a strong, independent woman. Therapy is a great way to reach out, learn more about yourself, and grow through any challenges you might be facing. I help women who want to change their relationship with food and their bodies. I work with women in individual, group, & virtual therapy. I have a holistic approach that covers a wide range of symptoms & issues, but I enjoy helping clients who have struggled with their weight make peace with food. I love working with college women who are graduating & seeking support for the transition, and specialize in those women experiencing a "quarter life crisis". I also have a lot of experience helping women with recovering from sexual trauma. I love working with women who may have experienced an unplanned pregnancy or abortion as well, and offer an non-judgemental, pro-choice arena to explore emotions. Starting therapy can seem scary, but its brave to get some help! Make the decision to feel better today. I am an Out of Network insurance provider-contact your insurance to see if you qualify for these benefits. Flexible spending and HSA accepted as payment. I would love the opportunity to work with you to find a way to bring out the strength that is inside of you. You are capable of so much more than you can even imagine!
I have over 25 years experience working with teenagers and adults. I understand the social, behavioral, and academic challenges clients face, not only with the pandemic, but with social media, peer pressure, self-esteem, eating disorders, relationships, decision making, substance use, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm. I provide cognitive behavior therapy, which is to help clients understand why they are thinking and behaving the way they are and to help them understand that in order to change for the long term, they need to first understand what is causing the problem. I help clients develop coping skills and self-care strategies for in the moment and every day use.

I am a clinical social worker and expressive art therapist. I'm passionate about art and mental health education and use both to support people as they develop skills and learn therapeutic tools to manage symptoms. In individual therapy, I enjoy working with young adults to help them develop positive relationships with themselves. I want to learn about you, how you think, how you learned those things, and what truly energizes you. Therapy can focus on processing the past using art and EMDR while also focusing on falling in love with the present. My speciality is using expressive art in therapy. Whether you believe yourself to be creative or not, my hope is to guide you through different ways to use art for relaxation and self-expression in group, individual, and family sessions. Sometimes words are not enough.
I enjoy helping to support people as they navigate through the many different waves of life. I help to create a warm, non judgmental, and supportive environment where clients are free to talk about their stories. I draw from a number of different treatment modalities, but most importantly, meet the client where they are at. While each individual's experience is unique, I regularly work with clients around topics related to anxiety, depression, obsessive thoughts, relationship concerns, sexuality, ADHD, life's transitions, familial conflict and many more. In this busy world, it can be difficult to make time to focus on your needs. Therapy provides a space to do so and share your story in a safe and non judgmental environment. Sessions are a time to practice self care, utilize your strengths, and develop tools that help you gain a better understanding of you. I would love to have the chance to work with you and hear your story. Currently, sessions are teletherapy based allowing you more flexibility to be in a familiar setting and join from any mobile or desktop device. I would love to help you with the process of learning more about you and develop the tools to navigate the many waves of life.

Hi! My name is Katie Kalina, a licensed independent clinician with over 6 years of experience. I believe that everyone deserves to be heard and healed, and that as your therapist, it's my job to meet you exactly where you're at. One of my specialties is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). This is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Eye movement (or other bilateral stimulation) is used to work on one memory at a time for the mind to heal. I have worked with individuals and groups of all ages, from children to teens and adults through anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, body image issues, relationship issues, and anger management. As your therapist, I will make it my mission to make you feel at home in our sessions. Once we meet, I will help you set goals and devise a plan that will make you transform in the ways that you wish to. Looking forward to completing this journey with you and bringing you ongoing success. You are sitting in therapy watching your therapist's lips move while she tells you for the fourth time that her cousin is gay and just got a “very butch” haircut. You can’t help thinking, “She just doesn’t get it.” He misgenders you, or forgets your partner’s pronouns, she pulls out Food and Mood, and he talks about how apple cider vinegar might be the solution to all your problems. She hasn't lived in a fat body. He hasn’t experienced homophobia or heterosexism from the inside. What initially seemed like a small hill to climb in your relationship has started to feel like a mountain. Maybe she tells you your black top is so slimming. Maybe once he referred to queer people as ‘homosexuals.’ Maybe, when you report your experiences of oppression, she tells you that the other party probably meant well and just wanted you to be healthier or have it easier in the world. You don’t trust him with your whole self, how can you? You’ve tried so many therapists in the past and she’s not that bad, is she? You continue to hope that therapy with a therapist who doesn’t quite get it will be enough to meet your needs. It’s not enough. You deserve a therapist who understands your lived experiences. You deserve a therapist who knows what it’s like to have your doctor prescribe weight loss to treat arthritis in your wrists, and who can truly hear it when you tell them about your experience with your homophobic aunt at Thanksgiving. You deserve a therapist who approaches the world with a solid intersectional anti-oppression framework that sees society, rather than some flaw in you, as the central piece of your problem. I can be that therapist. I’m fat, I’m queer, I have an intersectional lens, and I want to dismantle systems of oppression one client session at a time.
