I am especially helpful with those seeking better relationships with themselves and/or others.
Hi there! My name is Amanda and I’m so glad you stopped by my profile to see if I’d be a good fit for you. My first priority is for you to feel safe and comfortable. I love getting to know my clients the same way I get to know my friends - with excitement, curiosity, and compassion. I value treating my clients with the upmost dignity and respect. And once we’ve established a solid working relationship, I won’t hold back on (gently and lovingly) giving you the hard truth. I bring humor, animals (yes you read that right!), and my full heart and focus into my work and in helping you overcome challenges and becoming the best version of yourself. I am a pre-Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Registered Drama Therapist (RDT). If you are feeling anxious, exploring your identities, transitioning to different cultures, environments, or age groups, I am here for you. I create a safe space for you to be heard and feel authentic. Being fluent in Japanese and coming from a different cultural background, my approach is rooted in understanding diverse emotional and cultural perspectives of my clients. I have experience providing individual and group therapy to clients ranging from children to adults with neurodevelopmental disorders, as well as those navigating anxiety, life and/or cultural transitions and trauma. My specialty is expressive therapies, particularly drama therapy. I can utilize drama therapy or expressive arts-based approach if you think that might be helpful. Words sometimes cannot articulate everything you are feeling or experiencing, but I believe imagination, embodied expression, and play can narrate them in different ways. My goal is to support you by navigating your challenges and embracing your unique stories. If you think using words in another language other than English can express your emotions well, we can explore that too. We can find a healthy relationship with your challenges by utilizing your innate creativity. 日本語でもどうぞ!

I have trained in college counseling, community and hospital settings and specialize in treatment interventions tailored to the needs of college-age students. I offer a flexible approach to psychotherapy including both an appreciation for how past experiences shape the present while also incorporating coping strategies to manage and change every day life in the short-term.
I work with college students who are navigating life’s challenges—whether it’s anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, identity questions, trauma, cultural adjustment, or substance use concerns. I provide therapy in English and Mandarin and bring a multicultural perspective and psychodynamic approach to create a warm, supportive space for exploration and growth. My goal is to help my clients feel seen, understood, and empowered to reconnect with themselves and others. With years of post-graduate training at the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis (MIP) and the Psychodynamic Institute of New England (PINE), I blend thoughtful insight with compassionate guidance. I see clients in person at my Watertown Square office and via telehealth. I am in-network with BCBS, will soon accept Harvard Pilgrim, and also welcome self-pay clients.
I'm a psychologist with 20+ years helping college students with eating disorders and body image problems. I like to work collaboratively. I bring the expertise on how to help students recover from anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and emotional eating ( as well as the anxiety and depression that often accompany these issues) but students are the experts on their lives. Together, we form a partnership to help you move forward in both your eating disorder recovery and in building a life with more balance and joy! I utilize a mix of empirically-supported therapeutic approaches including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

My approach to psychotherapy is integrative and responsive to the needs of each individual person within the general contexts of multicultural sensitivity and a strong therapeutic relationship. Best summarized through Paul’s (1967) question: “What treatment, by whom, is most effective for this individual with that specific concern, and under which set of circumstances?" I have extensive experience working and training in University Counseling Centers (i.e., Penn State University Graduate Assistant, Pre-doctoral internship at Suffolk University, Post-doctoral Fellow at Tufts University followed by three years as a Staff Psychologist at Tufts). My clinical interests include college student mental health, in general; stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, interpersonal concerns, drug and alcohol use/misuse/abuse; Men’s issues; Childhood trauma; Working with students on the Autism Spectrum; Identity concerns; Relationship concerns; Issues of diversity and inclusion.
I’m dedicated to providing compassionate, client-centered care. I believe meaningful change begins with a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, respect, and collaboration. My approach integrates evidence-based practices like CBT, DBT, ACT, and ERP. I work with young adults and adult clients. Each session is tailored to your unique needs and goals, helping you build practical skills, increase self-awareness, and move toward a more balanced values-driven life.
I work very well with young people who are struggling to adapt to college or grad school, either socially or academically. I am able to diagnose ADHD and create treatment strategies. I also work very well with students who are struggling to differentiate from their parents or families. Sometimes this look like anxiety or depression, but it can have its roots in dysfunctional family systems. I am good at working with you to identify what you grew up with vs what you need now. I am in training as a sex therapist with a focus on how to get pleasure from sexual intimacy. I like to support sex workers, and can also attend to gaps in sexual functioning.
Life can feel like a roller coaster full of twists and turns. You may lose track of your goals and rely on unhealthy coping skills to help you, including over/under eating, excessive exercise, self-deprecation, doubt, isolation, irritability, over-thinking, increased impulsivity...the list goes on. During these times you may experience tough transitions ranging from the loss of a loved one, sudden change in career and/or relocation, acculturation challenges and/or traumatic experiences that result in confusion, pain and other emotions you may feel flooded with. I am here to help you process and make sense of your ride. For the last 12+ years I have helped my clients feel confident and self-assured. I use various talk and expressive therapy modalities, to assist others in unmasking the complex layers of their experiences and emotions to embrace their inner strength, leadership and uniqueness. I confidently feel that you deserve to be the best version of you at all times. Whether this be your first time in therapy or not I encourage you to take the leap and allow me to help you achieve your goals. I will be open to your needs and finding a flow that elicits the change you seek.
