Therapists for college students near IU Bloomington
Wondering if therapy is right for you? When I explained counseling to my 10-year-old daughter, she sat across from me on the floor and made a connection I'll never forget. She concluded, "So mom, you'd be like my own personal target. All of my thoughts and feelings are like arrows that I can throw at you." Yes, that's exactly what counseling is like. A safe place you can hurl "arrows," so they don't have the power to hurt you with their sharp points! You are not defined by your experiences or struggles. Taking a step toward counseling is brave because healing is a process and finding wholeness is a journey. Life is challenging to say the least! Let me walk alongside you as you navigate finding renewed hope. Together, we will discover who you are becoming!
College can be exciting — and overwhelming. If you’re feeling stressed, anxious, or just not like yourself, you don’t have to figure it all out alone. I offer a warm, nonjudgmental space to talk through challenges like anxiety, life transitions, and relationship struggles. Virtual sessions make it easy to fit therapy into your busy schedule.
Life can be tough, and juggling school with work and social makes it more tough! I can help you navigate and support you through the transitions. With over 30 yrs of experience, I have worked with students to assist them in finding the balance, and dealing with those issues we carry on our backs.
Are you someone that feels trapped and hopes that life has more to offer? Do you have goals and dreams that are collecting dust? Do you feel unappreciated or question yourself as a mother/father or partner? I know that feeling very well. I want to help you re-imagine a life where you are not chained down by indoctrinated, conditioned beliefs. I want to help you peel back the layers of life that leave you feeling stuck on the hamster wheel so you can regain your voice and live a life of empowerment, clarity and freedom. I offer a space for comfort, safety and trust so clients can tap into the parts of themselves that are holding them back. I focus on the body, mind and spirit as a whole unit to provide optimal wellness by offering compassion, empathy and authenticity. I help clients find their authentic self through their unique narrative. If you are experiencing any of these issues or just curious about the process, please reach out to me.
I am a board certified psychiatrist and provide combined psychotherapy and medication treatment. My patients are typically looking for therapy to address concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. They are also often looking for support with evidence-based medication treatment. I listen carefully to understand the difficulties that bring someone to treatment and to understand their goals. I am collaborative in my approach. I approach psychotherapy from a psychodynamic perspective, where the goal is to increase understanding and insight into thoughts, feelings, and behavior. When we can understand ourselves better, we can then change patterns that may be getting in our way. This type of therapy can often lead to lasting change. Please note that because my practice is telehealth only, I do not prescribe controlled substances (for example, stimulants for ADHD or medications such as Xanax or Ativan for anxiety).

My favorite part of therapy is talking things out with an empathic therapist and then returning to session the following week and sharing how my new knowledge/strategy/skill worked out for me. I am happy to suggest goals, ideas, strategies, skills, or resources depending on your need. Or I am happy to listen to you while you work out your own thoughts & feelings.
Alecia earned her bachelor’s degree in Family Science from Anderson University and her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Indiana Wesleyan University. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in the state of Indiana. Alecia has worked previously with individuals, couples, and families in a community-based setting as well as serving children and families within a local school system.
