Therapists for college students near Temple University
Children, teenagers, and young adults are more overwhelmed today than ever. The daily challenges they face can be highly stressful and can lead to significant impairments in self-esteem, family relationships, school functioning, friendships, and other important areas of life. My ultimate goals as a therapist are to help young people find good life balance and develop a sense of peace within themselves. I enjoy providing a space where individuals and families can safely work through difficult situations, while learning to feel good about themselves, acquire problem-solving skills, maximize their natural strengths, and utilize the supports they have in their lives.
I am a licensed psychologist with experience and a passion working in college mental health. I am passionate about working with undergraduate and graduate students, first-gen students, and students of color. I am a generalist, but have focus areas in depression, anxiety, grief, relational distress and trauma, and sexual wellness. I provide culturally responsive and identity affirming psychotherapy services in-person and via telehealth.

Do you feel your life is lacking meaning and fulfillment? Are you feeling unmotivated and low energy, making it difficult to get what you want out of your life? Do you often feel anxious and distracted? These symptoms are common and natural to feel in the fast paced and productivity-driven world that we live in, but this does not have to be our reality. In gaining awareness into our automatic behaviors and thoughts, taking on different perspectives, and some coping skills, we can take back control of our lives. I'm Josh (he/him), and I bring a wide range of skills to the therapeutic relationship. Ranging from non-directive Existential Therapy, to skills based Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, I am equipped to help you identify where you can make changes in your life. My therapeutic style prioritizes a relational and conversational approach. My therapy personality is described as laid back, accepting, and collaborative. I value working alongside you to discover underlying patterns that may be preventing you from living a more fulfilled life. As the client, I trust you to guide me in where you want to go, identifying the parts of your experience that you are wanting to change.
Life is challenging and trying to figure out who you are, where you are going and what your purpose is, is hard enough. Then we throw in friendships, romantic relationships, careers and family dynamics and we can get overwhelmed so easily. In therapy we work together to find clarity. I have significant experience helping young adults in their 20s and 30s to alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression by exploring relationship and work difficulties, figuring out adulthood, and navigate feeling lost amongst your peers. I work with college students and young professionals navigating young early adulthood. Where we go in therapy depends on you. I take my expertise and knowledge and tailor it to meet your personal needs and what would bring you relief. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy which is rooted in mindfulness and self-compassion with a focus on living a life that makes you feel fulfilled. Whether this is your first time looking for a therapist or you've traveled down this road before, good for you. Asking for help requires courage. If you are looking to work with a therapist that will be interactive, non-judgmental, empathic and kind, reach out to see if we are a good fit. We will set up at 10minute call to see if we are good fit!

Hi I’m James (they/them). I am currently accepting sliding-scale clients at $10-$100 depending on what you can afford. I am doing in-person work, or virtual (in PA). I am available for short-term therapy (through April), with a focus on somatic experiencing: a type of therapy can support you to build capacity to show up in the world and in your body the way you want to. Somatic experiencing (SE) explores ways our bodies hold stress, overwhelm, and trauma patterns. By bringing awareness to these patterns and learning new tools, you can shift the patterns held in your body that are no longer serving you. Somatic experiencing is geared towards resolving trauma held in the body. It can be used to address specific events/trauma, ongoing stressors, or to build resilience in a more general way. If you aren’t interested in somatic therapy and would prefer someone to talk and process with, I’m also down for that. I draw upon my background in harm reduction, clinical herbalism, and personal experiences with physical and mental health struggles. My practice focuses on supporting queer and trans communities. I’m currently working towards a masters degree in social work from Smith College.
Professional Counseling takes place from our office in Cranberry Township, PA, or virtually. Most major commercial insurances accepted.
Starting therapy can feel like a big step—especially if you’re used to pushing things down, holding it together for everyone else, or telling yourself, “I should be fine by now.” Maybe part of you wants support & another part is unsure, tired, or scared to open things back up. If that’s you, it makes a lot of sense. Many of the people I work with feel stuck in patterns like people-pleasing, constant self-doubt, overthinking, or feeling burned out. You might feel on edge all the time, replay conversations in your head, or struggle to trust yourself & your choices. Others come in carrying the weight of trauma.
I welcome the opportunity to work with students seeking support. In addition to talking, I use a range of expressive methods to assist with personal growth and healing, including imagery, writing, drama, and movement. Using a mind/body/spirit approach, I enjoy assisting students with enhancing their own holistic well-being.

As a therapist, I encourage you to bring the “messiest” parts of yourself into the room during our sessions. I strive to create a safe, yet empowering space for all my clients, especially for those who hold marginalized identities. I let you set the pace of treatment and help you build confidence in your innate abilities to persevere and heal during difficult seasons of life. I also encourage you to provide feedback throughout our time together, so that we can make treatment as impactful and positive as possible. I believe that the most important aspect of our work together involves building a strong therapeutic relationship, so you can also expect a deep interest in you as a person outside of presenting concerns or diagnoses. Feel free to reach out if I sound like a good fit for you and your current needs. Either way, I wish you luck on your healing journey!
