Therapists for college students near New York, NY
I have worked with people experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including trauma, eating disorders, OCD, relationship struggles, and academic stress. I am attuned to the role oppression plays in my patients' lives and am LGBTQIA+ affirming. I enjoy working with students, artists and people with creative practices, those undergoing life transitions, and people seeking to understand intergenerational sources of suffering. My style is warm and nonjudgmental. I am guided by the belief that each person contains inherent strengths and knowledge, and that a primary goal of treatment is to allow for the expression of this unique experience. In our work together, we will move between past and present to understand what it’s like to be you. We will look carefully at your struggles, as well as how you love and dream. This diligent attention to your experience can result in satisfying and often surprising changes in personal, creative, and professional endeavors. In time, this knowledge of the self may also reduce symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and physical pain. I am a New York State licensed master social worker and graduated with honors from Silberman School of Social Work. I am a candidate in adult psychoanalysis at the Contemporary Freudian Society. I have also been trained in the treatment of eating disorders. I have worked with people of diverse racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexuality, and class backgrounds. I invite you to reach out to me.
I am a mature psychoanalyst who has experience working with college students and other young adults who are facing life transitions. My areas of strength are working with trauma and BPD. You may be carrying a lot of trauma even if you don't identify yourself as a trauma survivor. My approach is not goal or coach oriented. I do not give advice rather I help people to get in touch with their authentic self so that they may be better able to cope with life's challenges.

Trauma and the destabilizing events of our lives can impact our ability to grow no matter when or how they happen. We can find ourselves in harmful or unmanageable cycles that persist. By creating a safe space to creatively experiment in therapy you can provide yourself with the means and intention to grow. As a Clinician I have worked with clients experiencing addiction, the impact of trauma, and family dysfunction. Perhaps these challenges have led to unhealthy behaviors that don't fit who you are and what you need anymore. Or that you have reached many of your goals but realize the cost has been an internal battle that persists. I am passionate about partnering with my clients to create that safe space and have been inspired by witnessing what happens when it is created. Using a trauma informed lens I offer concrete tools for growth for those experiencing acute symptoms and mindfully move folks into deeper and more intimate somatic and creative interventions when ready.
Are you feeling overwhelmed? Worried? Do you struggle with transition and change? Are you wondering how to silence that voice in your head asking “Am I even worth it?” and build confidence and self-trust? If these experiences and questions sound familiar to you I encourage you to reach out and we can begin to work through them. Life can often feel overwhelming and reaching out for support and prioritizing self-care can feel difficult. I am here to provide you with kindness, compassion, and help you believe that you are worth it. I work with young adults to help them understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behavior and how to transform harmful thought and behavior patterns. Together, we can build up your skills in navigating life transitions, managing mental health symptoms, reducing distress, exploring relationship problems, and developing long-term coping strategies through shared empathy and good humor as fellow humans. I am a board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist, currently practicing and licensed in New York and California. I have a virtual private practice. I am also an attending child and adolescent psychiatrist/Clinical Assistant Professor at New York University Grossman School of Medicine, Medical Director of the Mental Health Team at the Nicholas Scoppetta Children's Center, and the Medical Director of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Association for Children's Services. I completed my child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. I was born and raised in New York City, where I also completed my medical education at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and my adult psychiatry residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. I enjoy working with each individual to find out what the needs are. No family, child, adolescent, or adult are the same, and everyone exists within a system. It is important to see a person as a whole, including the family they come from, school, job, community, and much more, in order to treat properly. My approach, when treating a child or adolescent, is to consider the community they are in, come from an attachment-based lens, and meet the youth where they are. Involvement of the parents will be important, especially depending on the age of the youth. My approach, when treating an adult, is to meet that adult where they are, understand their unique situation and treat accordingly. Personally, and professionally, I am interested in attachment theory and mind-body connection. I have received training in mindfulness-based stress reduction, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, family therapy, parent management training, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. My main areas of focus: anxiety disorders, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, ADHD, trauma, behavioral issues, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD), self-esteem, family, parenting, interpersonal dynamics, and school issues. However, each person is unique, so I am happy to speak to anyone and see if we are a good fit.

People seek me out for many reasons, including when they feel anxious or depressed, as well as when they are struggling with anger, grappling with traumatic events, feeling stuck, or simply sensing that something's not quite right. As a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, I'm skilled at working with people during various life transitions, including the excitement and stress of college life and the uncertainties that may await after graduation. I also have expertise in working with all manner of questions related to sexuality, gender, and relationships of all kinds. In working with me, you can expect to find an attentive listener who will help you gain insight and work toward more effective coping strategies. In addition to feeling better, you will likely feel more empowered to live a more fulfilling life.
“I want to feel happier and less depressed.” “We would like to improve our relationship.” “I would like to feel calmer and more in control, in spite of the stress, loss and trauma I have experienced.” “We want to help our children cope with our divorce.” “We need to figure out how we are going to live as a divorced family.” These are some of the most frequent goals of my clients as we work together. Many of the stresses and conflicts my clients face can be due to life’s experiences and losses or can come from within. Stress and conflict can lead to disintegration of relationships with our partners and our children, and even in how we view ourselves. Strengthening coping skills, emotional connection and intimacy can help repair fractures, increase compassionate understanding, and build closeness. Focusing on positive growth, shifting well-engrained patterns, and building greater self-acceptance can create lasting change and happiness. As a clinical psychologist with over 40 years of experience, I help adults, couples and families, by integrating many different therapeutic approaches to best fit my clients’ needs.
