I am a clinical social worker and registered yoga teacher who empowers people using the guiding principles of empathy, curiosity, cultural humility, and collaboration. I take an integrative, somatic, and highly relational approach and work to understand how the intersection of your unique experiences impact today. I remain committed to working with people as they face a range of experiences, including multicultural concerns, oppression, identity exploration, trauma, anxiety, depression, queer/LGB+ concerns, trans and gender identity related concerns, relationship concerns, chronic illness, and grief. In addition to more "Western" approaches to therapy, my own background as an Indian-American, as well as my training and experiences in esoteric practices rooted in the ancient traditions and wisdoms of India, China, and Tibet, deeply inform my work. I draw from these practices and find these global practices seamlessly meet our more "Western" approaches. I help individuals develop an embodied awareness of how their own natural processes of self-healing may have been blocked over time by various experiences in their life. I look forward to the process of helping you deepen your self-awareness and take safe risks. I am honored and eager to help you make positive changes, and ultimately, to heal.
We ALL have a purpose! Through exploration of our core beliefs, our thoughts and our emotional responses, we can better understand who we are and how we interact with the world. We can equip our self's to face the challenges life presents. I look forward to guiding you through this journey. My specialties and areas of interest include substance abuse, eating disorders, and anxiety. I have been in clinical practice for 15 years.
Accepting New Clients! Congratulations on taking the first step in choosing a therapist. Do you need someone to listen without judgment? A safe place to share your thoughts and feelings and to get out of that "stuck space" by considering solutions to improve your overall wellbeing? I would enjoy beginning this journey with you by establishing a warm, supportive, and trusting relationship through open and non-judgmental communication. At heart, I am a helper, encourager, and challenger who believes in people. My theoretical approach involves integrating Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior-Informed Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy to explore thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Working together you will increase knowledge and awareness and create action steps that may help ease stress and anxiety, navigate life transitions, and work through school, career, and relationship concerns. Our work together will always support my belief in the strengths of the client and the value of your role in the therapeutic process. In sessions, you can expect a compassionate, direct, and collaborative approach. Feel free to reach out with questions about counseling in general or next steps to get started. Best wishes on your wellness journey!
Hi, I'm Dr. J'haria Dallas, and I'm so glad you're here. College can be an exciting and transformative time, but it can also feel overwhelming. Whether you're navigating academic stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, family expectations, career uncertainty, burnout, or major life transitions, you don't have to face it alone. Seeking support is a courageous step, and by being here, you're already investing in yourself and your well-being. My approach to counseling is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help students better understand the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that may be holding them back while also identifying the strengths and resources they already possess. Together, we'll explore what's beneath the surface, develop practical coping strategies, and create meaningful goals that align with the life you want to build. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Georgia. Throughout my work as a counselor, educator, and supervisor, I have had the privilege of supporting individuals through some of life's most challenging and uncertain moments. These experiences have reinforced my belief in the power of having a supportive space where you can be authentic, reflect, and grow. I work with college students and young adults who are seeking greater confidence, balance, self-understanding, and connection. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, valued, and empowered to navigate challenges while building the skills needed to thrive both personally and academically. More than anything, I believe in your ability to grow through adversity, discover your strengths, and create meaningful change. You don't have to have everything figured out to begin. Wherever you are in your journey, I'd be honored to walk alongside you.

I believe in the basic goodness and natural wisdom of all human beings. Layers of confusion and unconscious wounds can disconnect us from our true selves. We may end up feeling bad and acting in ways that hurt our relationships— with ourselves, with others, and with this magnificent planet. We become hard and out of touch with our lives and callings. Real, deep change is possible when we face ourselves and our challenges with honesty, willingness, and compassion. - As your counselor, I will adventure with you into the weird and wonderful world of your own inner self. I'll use techniques rooted in Experiential Dynamic Therapy to help you touch into the freedom and wisdom already inside you and to overcome the barriers that arise on the path toward that life. Expect to be cared for and to be challenged— if you’re living in a stuffy little house made of old, limiting patterns, it might be time for some demolition work. I’m not afraid to hand you the sledgehammer, and I’ll be with you as you begin to step forward into an open, affirming wilderness of possibility.
Hi! Thank you for visiting my profile. I am married with a 6 year old boy and a 2 year old lab/pit bull mix. I have been in this field for over 15 years and enjoy helping others to reach their maximum potential.
I practice via telehealth in NY, NC, WA, and TX. I specialize in working with adult men and women who may look fine on the outside, but inside you're struggling to get your own needs met, self-doubt, perfectionism, and shame. Gestalt Therapy goes beyond looking only at the cognitive, linear perspective of the person. It demands of the therapist an awareness of the body and how it manifests in the psyche. Through its focus on process rather than content, the patient gains an experiential awareness of how they do what they do and new choices emerge spontaneously. The radical focus on process in Gestalt creative therapy keeps the work alive and full of possibility for both the patient and for my work as a therapist. Melissa Bennett-Heinz obtained her master’s degree in clinical social work from Columbia University (Class of 2002) and is a graduate of Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy in New York City, NY. In addition to her background in Gestalt Therapy, she obtained her bachelor's and master’s degrees from the esteemed conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, in New York City, where she majored in Oboe Performance. Melissa completed cognitive behavioral studies under the tutelage of Dr. William Sanderson. She is a licensed clinical social worker in NY, WA, NC, and TX and has over twenty years of specialized training and experience in PTSD, childhood abuse, mood and anxiety disorders. Melissa brings her background as a classical musician and deep spirituality together in her unique approach in Gestalt's creative and experiential therapy.

I practice with science-supported strategies to help people reduce stress, make health behavior changes (e.g., eat healthier), and adjust to illness or injury. I also work extensively with individuals who experience anxiety, depression, body image concerns, and disordered eating. I am trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and positive psychology interventions. I conduct teletherapy and am licensed for residents in North Carolina and all the states in PSYPACT (https://psypact.site-ym.com/page/psypactmap) . I began my counseling career working with groups, adolescents, and adults experiencing homelessness in a nonprofit setting. In transitioning to private practice I enjoy deeper counseling relationships by getting to walk alongside people more long term. I believe healing takes place with the whole person in mind, attending to psychological, physiological, emotional, social, and spiritual facets of the person. I find it fulfilling to walk alongside my clients as they cultivate wholeness and rediscover the beauty of their stories. Specialities: I am passionate about working in the specialties of EMDR, trauma, and adoption related issues. I have completed certification in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I have experience counseling clients across a range of issues: anxiety, ADHD, self-esteem/image, mild depression, premarital counseling, marital counseling, and relational issues. Therapeutic Techniques: I utilize techniques from EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Child-Centered Play Therapy, Strengths Based approach and Gottman techniques, among others. My education focused on an integrated approach, which intersected clinical approaches with Biblical principles. Upon request, I am able to provide counseling from a Biblical perspective.
As a trauma-informed therapist, I'm committed to providing compassionate and effective support to individuals, couples, and families. My approach combines a blend of empathy, humor, and energy to create a safe and engaging therapeutic environment. Drawing from systems theory and evidence-based modalities such as ACT, I tailor our sessions to meet your specific needs and goals, empowering you to develop the skills necessary to overcome obstacles and build healthier connections.

Life in your teen and early adult years is overwhelming. Figuring out who you are, fielding all the expectations, managing unknowns about the future, and putting yourself out there socially are all demanding your time and energy. It's a lot. Maybe you’re about to give up, feeling ready to stop being disappointed in yourself, or feeling that this is just how life is, and you need to cope however you can. You've done all the things you thought you were supposed to, and it doesn’t seem like it’s enough. You don’t have to keep pushing through. A meaningful, joyful life is possible for you, too. I work with teens, young adults, and their families to address the “never enough,” “what’s wrong with me,” or “why did this happen to me?” In our work, we will slow down and process the beliefs and patterns that no longer serve you while learning behaviors that support the person you are becoming. My approach is warm and compassionate, yet direct. Teen years and young adulthood are hard enough; you don't have to figure it out on your own. Together, we will work through the self-doubt, feelings of hopelessness, and the sense of isolation so that you can be your unique self—truly seen and valued. Strong and confident.
I am passionate about serving the communities that I work with. Difficult experiences impact people in different ways. Whether you are feeling stuck, disconnected, or hesitant as you approach a major life transition, know that change is possible. I incorporate evidence-based treatment approaches grounded in multicultural psychotherapy that allow for a collaborative relationship focused on helping you achieve your goals.
