Are you having a hard time juggling school, work, family, friend, and self care? Are you finding it harder than you anticipated to stay motivated and focused? Many college students realize once starting school, that moving away, making new friends, being alone for holidays, having additional responsibilies and independence can become very overwhelming and isolating. Working together we can process some of the changes and challenges that are coming up for you so you can adapt well and be able to enjoy the experience of college and self growth and development instead of being overwhelmed, lonely, or unsure of how to climb out of a pile of school work and responsibilites.
I understand what it's like to struggle with the challenges of being a college student. You are balancing going to class, getting good grades, sometimes working a job, family, and friends. That's a lot. You don't have to have all the answers. It's normal to not be ok because life sucks right now. Seeing me doesn't mean you are broken, and it's ok to put your guard down and crumble. I will give you a safe place to be vulnerable and learn to trust.
During our sessions together, I will support you in exploring the many parts of you and how they came to be. I will work with you to identify the negative messages connected to these parts of you. We will form a relationship with these parts and create a safe place for all of you to be seen, heard, and understood. In this safe place, you will heal yourself. Developing my own internal resources has helped me to move through some very difficult times as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Using evidence based research, I provide care that values every part of you and respects where you came from. In those moments of pain and struggle and self-discovery, I will help you to choose yourself. I seek to create a safe and inclusive space for black-bodied individuals, first generation immigrants, LGBTQ+ folks, survivors of trauma, sex workers, and clients who are struggling with relationship and intimacy issues. My approach to mental health care is rooted in anti-oppressive and decolonizing frameworks. The treatment modalities that I use have been found to be effective across many cultures, ages, genders, and experiences. I am here to support my clients in rediscovering themselves, strengthening their mind-body connection, and living the life they have always wanted.

Does This Sound Like You? You’re burned out from trying to do everything right. You’ve been called "too sensitive" or "too much". You’ve got big dreams but get overwhelmed or stuck. You say yes when you want to say no. You do all the “right” things and still feel exhausted and stuck. You crave rest, clarity, and space to just be. Let’s Change That Together, we’ll quiet the noise, ease the anxiety, and help you start showing up for yourself. Less guilt. More peace. A life that actually feels like yours.
You are sitting in therapy watching your therapist's lips move while she tells you for the fourth time that her cousin is gay and just got a “very butch” haircut. You can’t help thinking, “She just doesn’t get it.” He misgenders you, or forgets your partner’s pronouns, she pulls out Food and Mood, and he talks about how apple cider vinegar might be the solution to all your problems. She hasn't lived in a fat body. He hasn’t experienced homophobia or heterosexism from the inside. What initially seemed like a small hill to climb in your relationship has started to feel like a mountain. Maybe she tells you your black top is so slimming. Maybe once he referred to queer people as ‘homosexuals.’ Maybe, when you report your experiences of oppression, she tells you that the other party probably meant well and just wanted you to be healthier or have it easier in the world. You don’t trust him with your whole self, how can you? You’ve tried so many therapists in the past and she’s not that bad, is she? You continue to hope that therapy with a therapist who doesn’t quite get it will be enough to meet your needs. It’s not enough. You deserve a therapist who understands your lived experiences. You deserve a therapist who knows what it’s like to have your doctor prescribe weight loss to treat arthritis in your wrists, and who can truly hear it when you tell them about your experience with your homophobic aunt at Thanksgiving. You deserve a therapist who approaches the world with a solid intersectional anti-oppression framework that sees society, rather than some flaw in you, as the central piece of your problem. I can be that therapist. I’m fat, I’m queer, I have an intersectional lens, and I want to dismantle systems of oppression one client session at a time.

You may be fed up with the constant overthinking, feeling like you are lost in life, or those anxious thoughts that come at night. You might even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to understand why this is happening. You are ready to feel at ease and satisfied with your life. Most of all, you’re ready to feel confident about the choices you are making. You want to feel confident, but down inside you are struggling to calm insecurities and self-talk. You may be fed up with the constant overthinking, feeling like you are not good enough or that you just can’t let things go. You might even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to understand why this is happening. You are ready to feel at ease and satisfied with your life. Hello! I’m Dr. Matheus Marques, a board-certified psychiatrist specialized in mood disorders, with particular expertise in treatment-resistant depression. I believe in partnering with my patients to develop personalized treatment plans that honor both the latest scientific evidence and each person’s unique circumstances and goals. With over a decade of experience in medicine, I have completed five years of specialized psychiatric training at Mayo Clinic including both my psychiatry residency (where I served as chief resident) and fellowship in mood disorders. At Mayo Clinic, I helped develop institutional consensus for managing treatment-resistant depression, work that ensures I bring the most current approaches to complex cases. I’ve also completed specialized training in reproductive psychiatry through the National Curriculum in Reproductive Psychiatry and continue to participate in their ongoing supervision program. Whether you’re seeking help for depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, treatment-resistant conditions, or mental health needs during pregnancy and postpartum, my goal is to provide thorough, individualized care grounded in the latest research. My practice welcomes patients from across Minnesota, and I look forward to working together to develop a treatment approach that works for you.

They are people who want support in moving forward. I am genuine, honest, upfront and interactive, and emphasize the importance of our connection for your healing. I know that balancing school, work, and a social life is a lot to handle, and sometimes "powering through" just isn't enough. As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Minnesota, I help college students and adults (16+) navigate these high-stress years. Since I work exclusively via telehealth, you can skip the commute and meet with me from the privacy of your own space. How I Help I specialize in working with people managing Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, ADHD, and Autism, as well as Personality Disorders. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I use a mix of tools to help you find what actually works for your life: CBT: To help you catch and change the negative thought loops that keep you stuck. DBT: To give you "in-the-moment" skills for handling big emotions and stressful situations. ACT: To help you stay present and make choices based on what actually matters to you. What to Expect In our sessions, you can expect a real, down-to-earth conversation. There’s no need to "perform" or have all the answers. Whether you are struggling to get things done, healing from past experiences, or just trying to keep your head above water, we’ll work as a team. My goal is to help you feel more in control and give you practical tools so that daily life feels a lot more manageable.
