You made it this far - that is a win! I have professional and clinical experience working with queer/LGBTQ+ folks, folks of color, high performing individuals/those navigating perfectionism and those navigating sexual challenges and healthy relationships, including non-monogamy, polyamory, sex with friends and infidelity. I have extensive professional and personal experiences with indigenous communities, specifically the Potawatomi and Dine/Navajo Nation peoples; And enjoy working with veterans and those active in the military. I specialize in Narrative, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Solutions-Oriented Therapies with Psychodynamic influences. I am a full-time clinician at MIT, on the walk-in/crisis team; I also see a number of ongoing long-term clients; and have led our First Generation Low-Income (FLI) and LGBTQ+ Undergraduate support groups. As a gay man of color, I recognize the need to value and uphold identity within therapeutic spaces, and encourage all clients to see themselves in the cultural and political contexts in which they were raised and continue to navigate. Let's explore what the world has given you, and what you can give it next!

I believe the greatest gift a therapist can offer is full presence with a compassionate ear. Many of my clients have sought therapy because something that was working for them was no longer working, or they noticed patterns in their lives that they wanted to change. Many felt unseen, unheard, and stuck in relationships. Some noticed patterns of anxiety or anger impact their relationship with others or their work. Some were experiencing family estrangement, contemplating cutoff, or processing the loss of a loved one. Whatever it is that brings you to our therapy space, I want you to walk away from a session having felt that I was with you on the other side, to make sense of things when nothing was making sense. Give yourself permission to be here as you are. What we acknowledge and admit to another becomes more real, and you matter. In our therapy space, even if you take your shoes off at the door, you can bring your whole self. I work with clients whose journey to therapy has been filled with ingenious ways to make due with what they have. Many find a major life transition (relationship, career, moving, school) challenging their current tools. Using attachment-based, somatic, and mindfulness-based therapies, we learn to slow down--to feel and then deal. To see where we may be unskillfully expending resources and how to reclaim them. Using an integrated-brain approach that values insight but doesn't stop there, I equip clients with an understanding of themselves in both their verbal and somatic narrative. As a social work-trained therapist, I strive to ensure that our therapeutic relationship is a refuge from larger systemic harm and trauma. I invite you to bring with you your current resources, social location, and values that you have inherited from your family of origin, ancestors, and communities. Please feel free to contact me for a free 20 minute phone consultation to see if we would be a good fit together.

Searching for the right therapist can be stressful, but seeking guidance from a licensed professional is a wonderful way of gaining coping skills and a different perspective to challenging issues. My practice is dedicated to the psychological, emotional, and spiritual well- being of age 18+ adolescents, young adults, and adults. Individual and family therapy are offered in a nonjudgmental and professional atmosphere. I specialize in working with adoptees as well as families who have adopted or are adopting. Culture, religious/spiritual beliefs, and family structure are taken into consideration. My extensive experience with adoption provides a clear understanding of the array of issues that can manifest. Treatment is also available for non-adoption related matters. Goal-oriented treatment is offered in a supportive, encouraging, and comforting environment, tailored to the needs of each client. My use of empathy, clinical skills, and humor will help you obtain insight, clarity, and courage in order to become your most authentic self. If this approach matches your needs, please contact me for more information.

Chronic stress is not a requirement for success at work, at school or in relationships. If you are feeling depressed, anxious, or isolated, and/or coping with unhealthy habits, regaining balance is possible. Even the healthiest individuals can struggle to maintain physical, mental, and emotional balance in our high-tech, high-stress culture. In a judgment-free and solution-focused environment, we will work together to help you find more life satisfaction and confidence. I use only evidence-based, reliable practices in a safe, comfortable environment to help you feel better about your life direction.

My style is direct, interactive, supportive and compassionate. I particularly enjoy working with older adolescents and adults who are experiencing difficult and challenging transitions in their lives. I have found that some people seek counseling for short term solutions, while others are seeking a longer, deeper, transformative experience. Some goals I have helped my patients achieve include: overcoming inhibitions about relationships or career, becoming better self-advocates, managing stressful life transitions, exercising more control over choices and actions, and mourning the loss of a loved one/significant relationship. I often use CBT, DBT, and ERP to help clients maximize functioning.

In all my work with clients I provide a warm, safe and respectful environment based on collaboration and curiosity. When people contact me they often feel stuck or at a loss about how to proceed. They may be concerned about issues of self-esteem, satisfaction in relationships, or having difficulty managing stress in their work or school life. I use an active and interactive style in helping clients gain new ways to understand themselves and new tools to address problematic patterns of thinking, feeling, or behaving. I strive to be open-minded and non-judgmental in helping clients gain deeper understanding of the nature and underlying causes of the problems that bring them to me. Hello, and welcome. My name is Kathleen McGah and I offer a comfortable, confidential space for teens, college-age students and young adults to talk about whatever is on their mind, at one's own pace, and without judgment. When people have a safe place to practice putting thoughts and feelings into words, they find they grow psychologically stronger over time - and more satisfied with various aspects of life. I have worked with many students who, initially, have been hesitant to talk with a professional. (Even if one has had a counseling experience in the past, it can still be difficult to start with a new therapist.) It makes sense if you have some hesitation about taking this step. Only you will know if you are ready. If you have been struggling and think it would be good to meet with a therapist, though, please reach out.

The students I connect with most are curious about themselves and want to understand not just what they feel, but why. Many seem capable on the outside but feel overwhelmed on the inside — struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, friendship or dating struggles, or a harsh inner critic. Some notice the same patterns repeating or feel unsure of who they are and what they want. If you’re ready to look a little deeper, we’ll likely be a good fit. I offer a steady, supportive space to explore the inner stuff you’ve been carrying around. I bring warmth, curiosity, and a sense of humor to our work, helping therapy feel human, relatable, and sometimes even a little fun. I use talk therapy as our foundation, and when it’s a good fit, I may also bring in EMDR, a well-researched approach that helps your brain process difficult experiences — whether from the past or present — so they feel less intense and less triggering. I also draw from practical skills, mindfulness, and self-exploration tools to help you feel more grounded, confident, and in control — ready to move through college with greater clarity, self-trust, and maybe even a few laughs along the way.
