Therapists for college students near Georgia State University
I enjoy working with adolescents and young adults and have experience in many different settings such as the local school system and most recently at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. I strive to welcome clients with warmth and non judgment and create a space that feels safe for honesty and growth. My specialties are working with those who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, chronic illnesses/pain, grief and life transitions. I believe the relationship is the most important piece of the therapy process and plan to meet you wherever you feel comfortable, whether that is using art or taking a walk outside. As your therapist, I hope to empower you and to provide a safe place to process life’s journey, whatever that looks like for you.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor at Marietta Roswell Counseling. Are you feeling stressed and overwhelmed, down and depressed, or overcome with worry and fear? I am here to help. You've taken a big step toward your mental health and ideal future by seeking help, and I'd like to help you identify and achieve your goals. I am most passionate about helping adolescents and young adults develop their identities, mental wellbeing, and transition into who they want to be. I understand that finding a therapist that you connect with can be a daunting task, so let me tell you a little about myself. I received my Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas and my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from St. Olaf College. I completed an internship at the University of Kansas's Counseling Laboratory for the Exploration of Optimal States where I researched and counseled highly creative and gifted high school students, and my practicum at Baker University where I counseled college students on a variety of issues. I approach therapy through a person-centered lens and utilize techniques from an eclectic mix of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy. I appreciate that every client I see is unique and special, and I work very hard to create a warm, supportive environment in which strengths are uncovered and clients are encouraged to grow. I specialize in treating anxiety and depression, and have experience treating ADHD, mood disorders, relationship issues, identity and gender issues, adjustment disorders, sexual assault, trauma, suicidal ideation and self-harm. Regardless of what you are facing, I will help you feel safe, heard, and empowered to make positive changes in your life.
I believe that within a strong, collaborative relationship, problem-focused therapeutic goals can be reached in a timely manner. I see adolescents and young adults with a variety of presenting problems, including: anxiety, depression, inattention and distractibility, relational difficulties, and the complicated interaction between managing a chronic medical condition and maintaining psychological well being. Both in-person and virtual therapy sessions are offered. Call for a consultation to see if I'm the right fit for you.

Our practice belief is that we actually help you help yourself make the necessary changes in your life by giving you techniques, tools, skills, and guidance to achieve your goals. You'll almost always walk out of a session with a new technique or two that you can go home and start using immediately. Our practice has highly trained therapists, are personable, and we're ready to give you the skills and techniques you need to create change. While any given technique doesn't work for everyone and most people need a plethora of techniques, we'll be sure to give you the techniques and tools that we think are most appropriate for you every time you are here.
I spent 15 years supporting college students through every step of their journey. I worked with students struggling to adjust to being away from home, family, and friends; experiencing challenges with faculty or roommates; deciding on a major/career path; learning to be organized and follow a syllabus; developing better study and test taking strategies; or learning to manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenge.

I work with college students and young adults who are often doing “okay” on the outside but feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck on the inside. You might be juggling academic pressure, high expectations, or big life changes and finding that your mind won’t slow down or that self-doubt is always in the background. Therapy with me is calm and collaborative. We take time to understand what you’re dealing with and find ways to cope that actually feel realistic for you. I often work with students who struggle with perfectionism, overthinking, body image concerns, or a difficult relationship with food. I offer virtual therapy for students located in Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina, which can be especially helpful if you’re attending college away from home and want consistent support. My goal is to help you feel steadier, more supported, and less alone as you navigate college and the transitions that come with it.
Hi, I'm Marilyn. Reaching out for help is often intimidating, especially if you're unsure where to begin. Everyone’s process in therapy will look different, and I’m eager to work with you to discover what that will be. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is most important in this process, and I understand the need to find a good fit. Whether it’s depression, anxiety, stress related to classes, significant life transitions, relationship issues, etc., I will walk with you along your path to healing. Therapy can be a tool to increase self-compassion, understand our emotions, improve relationships, and offer healing. I work with individuals and couples. We all have narratives that guide our lives. Sometimes we get stuck in a narrative that is no longer effective, or we have a difficult time making sense of our experiences. Talking with someone from an objective point of view can help you make sense of your experiences and find meaning in them. I am also a trauma-informed clinician and trained in EMDR.
