Lissy Isaacson is an experienced, warm, and empathetic therapist who knows how challenging it can be to balance school, social life, and everything else on your plate. She takes an individualized approach, tailoring each session to meet your unique needs—because your mental health journey is personal.
Starting therapy can feel a little intimidating — especially if you’re juggling school, work, relationships, or figuring out your next steps in life. My job is to make that process feel less overwhelming and more like a conversation where you can be your real self. I work with young adults navigating anxiety, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, depression, self-esteem challenges, and big life transitions. I bring a mix of evidence-based tools (like CBT and Solution-Focused Therapy) and plenty of real-world perspective to help you make sense of what’s going on, build confidence, and create changes that actually stick. Sometimes that means breaking down big problems into smaller, doable steps; sometimes it’s about finding new ways to see yourself & your future. Whether you’re feeling stuck, burned out, or just ready to figure yourself out a little more, I’ll meet you where you are — no judgment, no one-size-fits-all advice. I believe therapy works best when you feel comfortable, understood, and even able to laugh along the way.

Life is all about relationships. Relationships with ourselves, our loved ones, and our community. While relationships can often bring us great joy, they can also sometimes generate feelings of anxiety, depression, and uncertainty. Through our therapeutic partnership, I will help you build the skills to better manage these disruptive feelings and gain insight into your behaviors, ultimately allowing you to find balance and fulfillment. I work with individuals, couples, and families of all backgrounds and take particular interest in women’s issues such as empowerment and identity. My environment is safe and inclusive, allowing you to feel comfortable exploring yourself. I believe each person comes to therapy with a unique set of experiences and expectations, therefore, I customize my therapeutic approach to meet your needs while also offering new perspectives. It would be a privilege to be a part of your journey, helping you and your relationships reach their greatest potential.
There’s no pressure to be perfect or “fix” yourself in this therapy room, and I will encourage exploration of what living imperfectly may feel like. Life can feel exhausting, and I am here to make space for that. I aim to support you in finding a greater sense of authenticity, community and joy in their lives. My clinical training focused on working with clients through an intersectional lens, something that shaped my passion for feminist therapy, where oppression, power and privilege are all named in the therapy room. I recognize the privileges I hold as a white, cisgender, middle-class woman, in working with all clients. I acknowledge cultural differences in therapy, and make space for each client’s experience with any form of intersecting identities. I am well aware of the impacts of patriarchy, white supremacy, heteronormativity, cisnormativity, colonialism, and fatphobia on our mental health, and aim to integrate a decolonized lens into all work I do. I bring anti-racist, anti-oppressive and restorative justice approaches to my work and am willing to be called in by you for any missteps that may happen. The therapeutic relationship is a space where I encourage you to model your ideal relationships and communication, even when it may feel uncomfortable.
In working with my clients, I strive to help them find a healthy balance in every part of their lives; whether it is work, relationships or health. Finding a balance is important. Balance does not allow one area in our lives to become too extreme, pulling all of our focus. In session we will develop personalized strategies that can help you feel more in control, making your concerns feel more manageable. Once we work together to find that balance in your daily life, you are able to live at your happy, healthy baseline. You begin to thrive.
My goal in the therapy process is to help create a safe and effective space for you. Change can be difficult and sometimes scary. It's important to have the right person "in your corner" to help you tap in to your inner wisdom and navigate the challenges that you're facing. I have experience working with many presenting concerns including substance abuse, disordered eating, body image concerns, women's issues and navigating life transitions. I also have personal experience with type 1 diabetes, and I work with clients navigating the disease and co-occurring mental health concerns. My goal as a therapist is to help you identify and utilize your strengths while also challenging you to try new approaches that can lead to different experiences. I believe in giving you a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space to explore what's really going on in your life. That starts with helping you develop insight around your struggles and patterns. We then work together to identify and practice ways to move forward and make real and meaningful changes towards the life you want to lead. I am able to be reached via email or phone for questions and appointment scheduling. I also offer free 15 minute phone consultations to help you determine if counseling with me is a good fit. The best way to schedule a phone consultation is via email. My practice offers both in person and virtual tele-health sessions to help accommodate busy schedules.

College is a time of immense growth, but it can also feel like you're expected to have everything figured out. The pressure to choose the right major, land the right internship, and map out your entire future can feel suffocating. I know this firsthand - I changed careers a few times before finding my path in counseling. I understand what it's like to sit with the uncertainty of wondering whether you're on the right track and feeling like you're falling behind while everyone else seems to have it together. Whether you're adjusting to a new campus, navigating the independence of college life, or struggling with anxiety and depression, I provide a space to unpack those pressures and reconnect with what actually matters to you. I also enjoy working with student-athletes. Balancing the demands of academics and athletics comes with a unique set of pressures. When so much of your identity is tied to performance, it can be difficult to know who you are outside of your sport. There are a lot of challenges involved such as adjusting to a new team environment, managing the weight of expectations from coaches and peers, or facing burnout and the emotional toll of competition. Together, we can work to build resilience that extends beyond the field or court and help you develop a stronger sense of self that isn't solely defined by your achievements. In therapy, I offer a warm, collaborative approach where healing happens through genuine connection. I believe people suffer most when they are living out of alignment with their own values and desires rather than the expectations placed on them by society, family, coaches, or culture. Part of our work together is identifying those messages and exploring which ones are truly yours.
Many university students seek support when the usual ways of coping stop working. Even high-achieving, motivated students can find themselves struggling to focus, stay organized, manage emotions, or just feel like themselves. It’s not always obvious what’s going on at first—but there’s often more beneath the surface. I work with students dealing with: ADHD – trouble with focus, time management, procrastination, or follow-through Anxiety – persistent worry, racing thoughts, panic, or physical symptoms like tension or trouble sleeping Depression – low energy, lack of motivation, disconnection, or loss of interest in things that used to matter OCD – intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, mental loops that are hard to break Trauma – past experiences that affect how you respond to stress, relationships, or daily life Bipolar disorder – changes in mood, sleep, or energy that feel destabilizing or confusing Neurodivergence – navigating a world not built for your brain, and looking for care that meets you where you are Some students are already on medication and want to review or adjust their treatment. Others are starting from the beginning, looking to understand what’s going on and what options are available. Either way, the goal is the same: to feel more grounded, more capable, and more like yourself again. I offer convenient virtual appointments that can be requested online, as well as in-person visits at our Scottdale, GA location.

Many of my clients navigate stress, self-doubt, overthinking, and pressures from relationships, work, or school. I am especially passionate about working with members of the queer community and neurodivergent individuals, and I strive to create a space where you can show up fully as yourself—without judgment, pressure, or the need to mask or hide parts of who you are. Whether it's self-esteem, life transitions, relationship challenges, or feeling lost, you don’t have to manage it all on your own. I offer a supportive, affirming space where you can show up as your full, authentic self and explore what’s on your mind without judgment. Together, we’ll explore how your relationships, culture, identity, and life experiences shape your well-being, while working to ease anxiety, build self-esteem, and help you feel more grounded, connected, and empowered. You deserve the kind of support and care that sees you, values you, and meets you where you are. I invite you to reach out if you’re ready to take the next step toward healing and growth. You may be feeling overwhelmed, stressed and disconnected. Perhaps your relationship is stuck in a negative cycle and you can't find the way out. Maybe you are going through a difficult transition and could use support. At some point we all need help dealing with the changes, or lack of change in our lives. Therapy can be a wonderful place to work out how to take the next steps and find relief. As a liberation focused therapist, I understand the impact oppressive structures have on our mental health. I work with adult individuals and people in relationships to help them reduce the effects of harm, and find joy and calm in their relationships and community. Currently, I provide in-person care anr my Smyrna office and teletherapy for folks throughout Georgia, with a "Walk and Talk" outdoor option as well. About me: I am direct and warm, with a touch of New Jersey sarcasm. I love belting musical numbers and appreciate art in all its forms. I am a white, Queer, diasporic Jew and mama of two; a spouse, sister, daughter and auntie in a multiracial and multifaith family. I have had the honor to walk alongside folks on their career and mental health journeys in both the college setting and the greater community. I love the work I do both in the therapy room and as an activist and would be excited to be a part of your support network.
