Therapists for college students near 20052
Many students I work with seem to be “doing fine” on the outside but feel anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally drained inside. They may overthink constantly, put intense pressure on themselves to succeed, carry family expectations, or try to move forward while still feeling the weight of painful past experiences. Some feel responsible for everyone else’s needs. Others are tired of always being the strong one. Many feel alone with emotions that seem bigger than they expected. If you notice you shut down when things get intense, struggle to set boundaries, or feel stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand, there’s usually a reason for that. In therapy, we don’t just manage symptoms. We figure out what’s driving them. My goal is for you to feel more grounded, more confident, and more secure in yourself, not just getting through college, but actually feeling better.

Hello, I’m Alison. I help young adults who are overwhelmed, hopeless or anxious feel more in control and able to manage life's stressors and challenges. Some of the issues young adults have come to see me for include: relationship concerns, feelings of being overwhelmed, struggling to adapt to college or missing home, body image issues, life transitions, questions about gender/sexuality, and personal and family trauma. Trauma can include many things, such as relationship abuse, childhood abuse, illness, death, discrimination, and adoption issues. Using talk and somatic (body-oriented) therapy, as well as the expressive arts, I help clients connect to themselves and access resources to help them feel more at peace and in control of their lives. You will find me to be authentic, caring, and a dedicated support on your journey to healing. I bring compassion, mindfulness, and creativity to my work and consider it an honor to work with my clients. As a lifelong traveler who has lived in many places, I enjoy and value working with people from all walks of life. I look forward to meeting you.

I am a licensed clinical social worker and yoga instructor. I take an holistic, integrative approach to mental health treatment assisting my clients in building healthy lifestyles that provide proactive protection, maintenance, and or obtainment of optimal mental health and wellness. I assist my clients in getting to the root causes of their inability to make and sustain healthy lifestyle practices. Grief can make us feel lost and confused, but we can feel better. People typically think grief and loss are solely about losing a loved one. But we endure ambiguous losses more often than acknowledged. It can occur through experiences such as depression, anxiety, a relationship break-up, pandemics, or other life events. Although the emotions might seem to be everlasting, healing is achievable. I believe everyone needs support from others at some point in their lives. That does not mean they are weak or incompetent. It just means the situation might be harder to manage independently. That makes us all human. For over 20 years, I have worked with diverse populations addressing various mental and behavioral health needs. I want to help you learn strategies to address unhealthy thought patterns so that you can have more control over your overall well-being. I believe therapy is a partnership. Together, we can work towards achieving your desired goals.

The Sanctuary Care & Counseling Center is a counseling practice that aims to facilitate wellness through the integration of spirituality and mental health. This is done through ensuring that clients feel safe, supported, and are persistently reminded to extend themselves grace and self-compassion. In the Sanctuary clients are provided a safe space to discuss the complexities of "adulting", process their trauma, navigate grief, adjust to change and transitions, be vulnerable about their fears and insecurities, and express uncertainty and ambivalence about their faith stories. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to have it -" all together". We invite you to The Sanctuary, where we will partner with you as you strive to figure it out.

Life as a college student is supposed to be great, but at the end of the day it can really suck. Exams, studying, roommates, relationships, missing home - these are all things that can drive us crazy, not to mention any depression or anxiety that might have been hanging around before. And if you’re dealing with sexuality or gender identity issues, it can really feel difficult. If you’ve made it this far you’ve taken an awesome step towards figuring stuff out. It’s not easy to do, and therapy really can help with the right fit. Whether it’s LGBTQIA+ issues, dealing with a less than ideal roommate, or just figuring out what you want to do with your life, I’ve been there and want to help you through it too.
I offer traditional psychotherapy sessions, but I also work on stress management, mindfulness, emotional expression, relationship issues, depression, recovery and other issues.
My purpose is to ultimately help my clients achieve the goals they wish to accomplish. I offer a safe, empathetic and a warm environment. I use interventions that offer not only symptom relief, but also a means to improve emotional connections to the individual and others. I have experience in treating LGBTQIA populations, depression, sexual challenges, anxiety disorders, trauma, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, chronic pain, chronic illness, disabilities, and disease. As a dedicated psychotherapist, certified substance abuse counselor, and certified sex and couple’s therapist, I use holistic approaches where I treat the whole person and not just the symptoms. Clients who are in non-monogamous, swingers, polyamorous, and/or kink relationships are welcomed.
