I am a board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner and Doctor of Nursing Practice based in Boulder County, Colorado. I provide psychiatric care that is collaborative, evidence-based, and deeply personal — helping individuals reconnect with balance, purpose, and confidence. My background spans acute physical rehabilitation, memory and behavioral health, and outpatient psychiatry. I’ve also served as adjunct faculty at the University of Colorado College of Nursing, where I taught mental health nursing across the lifespan and trained future nurses to approach care with empathy and curiosity. I founded Jamie McCartney Psychiatry PLLC to create a space where patients feel genuinely seen and supported. My practice integrates medication management, psychotherapy collaboration, and lifestyle psychiatry to address the full picture of mental health.
Providing thoughtful psychiatry for children, adolescents, and adults.
I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ teens and adults navigating gender, sexuality, relationships, identity, and the emotional weight that can come with living authentically. My approach is warm, relational, and trauma-informed. I pay close attention to what's unfolding between us in the moment, while also helping you build practical tools for regulation, self-trust, and resilience. Our work might include somatic (body-based) practices, mindfulness, inner child and parts work, or deeper exploration of attachment, identity, and the systems we move through. I honor the realities of our sociopolitical climate and the ways it shapes queer and trans lives, and I aim to hold space that’s affirming, collaborative, and deeply respectful of your truth. Whether you're coming out, healing from trauma, or just trying to make sense of who you are and what you need, I’d be honored to walk alongside you. You don’t have to do it alone. I believe in the power of real human connection. Everyone deserves to feel heard, understood, and valued exactly as they are. My style is warm, client-centered, and grounded in curiosity. Alongside open dialogue, I use evidence-based approaches like ACT and DBT to help you manage anxiety, build stronger coping tools, and navigate life’s curveballs. I work with adults (18+) facing big transitions: starting college, figuring out who you are, exploring relationships and sexuality (including LGBTQ+ identities), or feeling stuck between worlds. As a bisexual therapist and someone who’s moved across cultures, I get what it’s like to question where you belong or how to move forward. I also support clients dealing with health challenges, athletic injuries, sexual health, chronic illness, eating disorders, and body image concerns. Outside of therapy, you’ll find me adventuring in the mountains. I see therapy a lot like a tough hike: challenging, sometimes uncomfortable, but deeply rewarding. I’m honored to walk alongside you as you find your own path.
If you're struggling, I want you to know it doesn't have to be so hard, and you don't have to go it alone. Together we can begin to understand and cope with emotions and situations which can seem overwhelming. Relationships can create such powerful movement in our lives, and offer real hope. I share a profound respect for your choice to begin therapy, and will provide a non-judgmental space to express yourself. Anxiety, loss, transition -- often these struggles give us opportunity to grow and deepen our knowledge of ourselves.
Hi I am a believer that life is workable. Hard? Yes. Challenging? For sure. Therapy offers a place to be heard, to learn skills and develop a deep sense of self trust and belief in one's ability to make a full and fulfilling life. Adults love to say college is the "best time of your life" but that adage misses how deeply challenging this time in life actually feels: making friends, finding your career, leaving home, fitting in - - to say nothing of academic challenges. Therapy can help make the transition to a new school, the development of an independant self as well as navigating how to work with and understand friendships, relationships and drugs and alcohol.
My office is just a short walk from CU-Boulder's campus. I work with all kinds of clients in all kinds of configurations. I meet with individuals, couples, and families, and I like to work with clients across time. I am eager to have conversations with you as you sort through complicated feelings, try out new ways of being, or just get to be vulnerable for a bit. I will help you gain a more profound understanding of your experience, a deeper connection with self and others, and a recognition of your values and beliefs, so that you can ask for and have the rich life and meaningful relationships you want and deserve.
I am multi-lingual licensed psychotherapist in private practice specializing in trauma and the emotional and somatic impact of violence on the individual and communities - whether it’s racially or gender-charged violence or the destruction of our planet - grief, anxiety, trauma, shame, feelings of despair and anger are all part of it. As faculty of the International Center for Mental Health & Human Rights, I have facilitated contemplative based trauma and resiliency trainings locally and internationally to communities on the frontlines. In my work with you, I pay attention to how constructs such as power, race, gender, socio-economics, and sociopolitical environments impact the individual, family, and community identity, well-being, and health. Traumatic experiences happen within a social context and are shaped by social and climate-related conditions. Tailoring my approach according to your concerns, challenges, and unique socio-cultural background feels essential in our work together. I have been working with adults and adolescents in the mental health and education field since 2005. I graduated from the California Institute for Integral Studies with a Master’s Degree in Integral Counseling Psychology and hold a Social Work degree from Hochschule Niederrhein in Germany. I offer individual and group psychotherapy in my office in Boulder, CO. As a psychotherapist, I take an integrative approach that includes psychodynamic psychotherapy, EMDR, neuroscience, climate-awareness, social justice, and contemplative-based trauma and resiliency training. My work predominantly focuses on survivors of traumatic experiences as well as challenges related to shame, self-esteem, racial and multicultural identities, and climate distress. As a climate-aware psychotherapist, certified in climate psychology and member of the North America Climate Psychology Alliance, I am passionate about understanding the immediate mental health impacts of climate related disasters and long term stressors of living with the reality of climate change over time. I believe that learning emotional resiliency skills with ways of motivating effective action and creating intentional moments of reconnection with the earth and all her inhabitants, feel essential to the wellbeing of our world. I speak English, Spanish and German fluently.

Although college can be a time of excitement and exploration, it can also feel extreme and bring up feelings that can be challenging to sort out on our own. Having the right support can make all the difference. At In Bloom Psychotherapy we are here to support you on this journey exactly as you are, helping you find the tools and resources to provide some relief and a better understanding of yourself. Among other issues, we specialize in working with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, grief, relational issues, depression, college athletes, and outdoor enthusiasts. We incorporate body awareness and mindfulness into sessions because talk therapy alone may not be enough to shift old patterns and create new neural pathways in the brain. Some of our clinicians are trained in EMDR therapy and utilize approaches such as parts work, IFS, DBT, CBT, mindfulness and attachment theory. We know finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming and daunting. If something in this bio resonates with you, please reach out for a free twenty-minute phone consultation.
I am an ANCC board certified nurse practitioner specializing in the identification, treatment, and management of psychological disorders. I received both my masters and doctoral degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. I am certified across the lifespan but specialize in treating adolescents and adults with a variety of mental health conditions. My work history includes not only medication management in both inpatient and outpatient settings, but also psychotherapy with an emphasis on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have written several book chapters and journal articles that have been published in literature directed towards primary care providers. Collaborating and coordinating patient care amongst all care providers is something that I have always integrated into my practice as it is very important in guiding successful and holistic outcomes. Hello! Our well being is determined by our relationships, including the relationships that we have with ourself and our past. I draw on a vast toolkit including decades of study in mindfulness and yoga as well as the neuroscience of attachment, 12 step recovery, and nature based work. Hi! I'm Elise and I'm so glad you're here. Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and I'd love to support you through it. I work with individuals and couples who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of why the same patterns keep showing up in their lives or relationships. Maybe you're navigating the stress of college, anxiety, self-doubt, family and relationship challenges, or a big life transition. Maybe you and your partner are finding yourselves having the same arguments, feeling disconnected, or struggling to communicate the way you'd like. Whatever brings you in, you don't have to navigate it alone. I strive to create a space where you feel comfortable being yourself—where you can laugh, cry, and explore the hard moments. Together, we'll make sense of what's keeping you stuck and work towards creating relationships with others and yourself that feel more connected, authentic, and fulfilling.
Are you a woman working through early recovery and building toward a thriving life, or a hospice patient or family member searching for meaning and peace at the end of life? As a Master of Social Work student, these are the experiences I've spent the last few years navigating with patients. Compassion, honesty, and kindness are central to my approach, and I am dedicated to offering all of these to strengthen our work together. My experience with addiction, grief, end-of-life care, and meditation has helped me develop a well-rounded approach that prioritizes acceptance, patience, and mindfulness. Helping women meet loss, fear, and pain, while also holding deep reverence for the beauty in their lives, is something I'm passionate about. Working together, you can expect a calm, accepting environment that welcomes all parts of you. I honor you as the expert of your life, and look forward to walking alongside you on your unique journey. The loss of my mother in 2023 marked the beginning of my path to social work. Following in her footsteps, I began working with women in early recovery from addiction, and eventually interned with a hospice agency through my MSW program. These experiences deepened both my admiration for her and my understanding of addiction, death, grief, and the healing process. My own experiences with pain and healing, both personally and professionally, allow me to center compassion in each session with you. Art is one of my greatest loves. I find joy in creative expression, often working with pen, watercolor, and acrylic paint. Staying active brings me just as much joy, and I love to trail run, hike, and meditate. Cats have my whole heart, and I'm brand new to snowboarding.
I have 30 years of working with adolescents and young adults. My approach to therapy is founded in the value of the therapeutic relationship. It is very important my clients feel heard and validated with a sense of security as they explore their experiences of both suffering and success. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an evidenced based psychotherapy treatment to help improve communication with others, reduce fears and phobias, interrupt thoughts that lead to addictive or other self-destructive behaviors, improve self esteem and change negative thought patterns. I have extensive experience working with diverse populations in psychiatric hospitals, treatment programs, the criminal justice system, young adult transitional programs, family systems and private practice.
Hello! My passion is working with people interested in personal growth and I strive to collaborate with my clients in exploring unconscious and procedurally-based patterns that occur in relationship with self and others. I have served as a therapist to young adults and adults in the front range area for 10 years. Before opening my practice, I worked in community mental health and at CU Boulder's Counseling and Psychiatric Services Center. I work primarily from a contemporary psychodynamic lens and utilize a wide range of techniques including Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, narrative therapy, interpersonal/relational therapy, Self psychology, and Motivational Interviewing. I am also trained in MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy through MAPS and am a published qualitative researcher on the MDMA-AT FDA trials. I am a cisgender woman currently residing on the stolen homelands of the Arapaho and Cheyenne, colonially known as Colorado. I identify as haafu and Japanese-American and I unjustly benefit from my East Asian heritage and proximity to whiteness, as someone who is able-bodied, and with financial and educational access. My sun and moon are in Cancer. I am passionate about matters of identity, race, culture, and social justice.
