I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a love for holistic healing approaches. I go beyond talk-therapy, to treat issues including depression, anxiety, and trauma from multiple angles (mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual). As is common with many therapists, therapy changed my life and ignited my desire to do the same for others. I told myself if I could help just one person the way my therapist helped me, my life’s purpose would be fulfilled. My approach isn’t traditional; I know that each individual needs tools and interventions tailored to their unique experiences. Furthermore, I understand that a sense of well-being goes far beyond the thoughts and emotions we may struggle with. I believe in treating the whole person; mind, body, and spirit. I blend evidenced-based western approaches to psychology, including DBT and ACT, with eastern wellness practices such as mindfulness and yoga. I’m a wholehearted, empathetic therapist, but I’m not afraid to challenge my clients if/when needed. Not every client I treat has a life-altering transition, but I’ve witnessed significant shifts in the majority of them while processing trauma and treating depression, anxiety, and panic disorders. It brings me joy to work with individuals from various backgrounds and orientations. I work hard to get to know all of the intimate details that make you a wondrously unique individual, so that you may feel seen, heard, and understood. More importantly, so that we may work together in creating your vision for your highest self.

Hi! I’m Dr. Lola Martin, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in California (PSY#32925). I specialize in treating eating disorders and trauma. Healing is possible. No matter who you are, or what happened to you, you deserve to feel safe in your body - and in the world. You can create a life that is meaningful and worth living. My therapeutic approach integrates relational psychodynamic, behavioral, and somatic techniques, tailored to meet each individual’s needs. I completed my pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training in clinical psychology at UCLA, where I worked for many years alongside my private practice. In addition to my clinical practice, I have had the privilege of teaching at several academic institutions across Los Angeles, where I’ve contributed to the training of future mental health professionals. Committed to lifelong learning, I regularly pursue continuing education in my areas of expertise. My clients and colleagues have observed that I possess an authentic, warm, humble therapeutic style, with a focus on insight development and lasting change. I am particularly interested in how social identities related to culture, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, body size, and ability intersect with your unique mental health experiences. I look forward to meeting you!

As a Black woman who is often seen as "having it all together," it may be challenging to admit that you are having a difficult time. You may automatically say that you are "good" or "well" when people ask how you are doing but know deep down that this is a mask of how you are really feeling. Recognizing and admitting to yourself about the mask is the first courageous step to getting support. Even though many of us have been told to not let our guard down by showing others that we do not have it all together or that only "crazy" people who do not look like us go for therapy (not true!), you know what you need for yourself.

I love supporting clients through trauma, anxiety, and depression. I especially love helping clients feel empowered and confident in who they are. I am a trauma-trained therapist, available for EMDR therapy. I also use a blend of Psychodynamic, Parts work, and Attachment/Emotion-focused therapy. Every session is personalized to fit your unique needs, values, and pace, with a focus on holistic care that addresses the whole person—not just symptoms. My therapy goes above and beyond finding surface-level solutions, and instead, sets out to discover long-term benefits and healing. In my sessions, we explore topics that reconnect you with your values and create goals that best align you to the life you want to live. Together, we’ll set goals, overcome barriers, and create the growth you deserve.

Let's support you in facing internal struggles stemming from everyday life, anxiety, stress, trauma, and relationships! Let's help you learn a variety of coping and parenting skills to support you in feeling confident as an individual or as a parent while developing healthy communication within your relationships. In therapy, we will spend time exploring your history, concerns, strengths, and areas of growth. We will then work together to develop an individualized way to support you in the growth that you want to see in yourself. You will learn a variety of new tools and skills to manage anxiety or stress, decrease self-criticism, improve self-esteem, increase self-confidence, set healthy boundaries, learn new ways to communicate, or learn new parenting skills. Emphasis will then be placed on learning how to implement these into your everyday life.

Do you… worry you’re disappointing the people you love? feel pulled between your own needs and everyone else’s expectations? wonder who you’d be if you stopped trying so hard to get everything right? You may have spent years adapting, achieving, and taking care of others. But beneath the anxiety, and doubt, there’s a quieter question waiting to be heard: What would it look like to let go? The idea of being your authentic self terrifies you, but part of you knows… something needs to change. Perhaps… • You’ve recently been diagnosed with ADHD or autism and are making sense of yourself in a new way. • You identify as an immigrant or third-culture adult trying to reconcile different cultures, values, and expectations. • You’ve spent much of your life battling anxiety, perfectionism, or the pressure to always do more. If you’re tired of coping and want to start living, I’m here for you.

Living with shame, fear and constant self-doubt can be debilitating and painful. Often times, painful emotions and difficult histories make it hard to cope the way we would prefer to. Or sometimes we think we're coping just fine but family members and loved ones are worried for us and our health. Relationships can suffer, our self-esteem dwindles and we end up feeling lonely and isolated. I help individuals and families to overcome shame, fear and doubt. I specialize in helping those whom struggle with their relationship to food, self and others (Eating Disorders). I am also adept at helping those who struggle with perfectionism, family conflict and relationship problems. You don't have to suffer alone. Having had the pleasure of working with college students at Santa Clara University, SJSU, and UCLA, I help people feel better by addressing the specific concerns that bring them to therapy. I aim to listen carefully and offer a safe space to explore what’s on your mind, with the goal of helping you get what you want from therapy and feel more like yourself again. My work often focuses on relieving emotional distress, deepening connection to one’s feelings, gaining insight into recurring challenges, and fostering a greater sense of self-alignment and vitality. I've had the opportunity to help folks address many challenges in therapy from anxiety, depression, loss, and relationship challenges to questions about one's identity, life transitions, and processing difficult experiences from childhood. This approach to therapy is called psychodynamic. In my approach, I incorporate many principles from AEDP and have also been trained in other modalities such as CBT, ACT, and DBT. I sometimes draw from these modalities when someone may want to develop coping skills to deal with life’s ups and downs as they work towards their goals for therapy. I also welcome people to bring up issues of race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender identity, pertinent political issues as well as any other aspects of their culture or themselves they wish to share, explore, or better understand in therapy.
