Therapists for college students near Duke University
I enjoy working with a variety of adult populations including LGBTQIA+, first responders, active and retired military members, their families, and dependents. I've assisted clients through their journey with grief, PTSD, relationship stresses, depression, and mood disorders for the past 5 years. If you are struggling with intrusive thoughts, depression, isolation, or anxiety I am happy to assist you in uncovering the source of these concerns and work with you toward getting back to a more positive place in your life.
I am a licensed psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of anxiety and childhood trauma. I have clinical experience across crisis intervention, substance use treatment, and outpatient therapy settings, working with individuals experiencing acute distress as well as ongoing mental health concerns. My approach is grounded in the belief that unresolved trauma can significantly influence emotional regulation, self-concept, and interpersonal functioning. Clients often seek treatment when they feel “stuck,” overwhelmed, or notice persistent patterns related to past experiences that interfere with daily functioning, relationships, or goal attainment. I provide a supportive, structured therapeutic environment where clients can explore these concerns, develop insight, and work toward sustainable change. I utilize evidence-based modalities including Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Treatment focuses on increasing self-awareness, processing traumatic experiences, addressing maladaptive thought and behavior patterns, and strengthening coping skills. Therapy is collaborative and tailored to each client’s clinical needs and treatment goals. I welcome individuals seeking to engage in therapy to address anxiety, trauma-related concerns, and personal growth.

After trauma, we reach for whatever coping skill is closest in order to survive. We may turn to substances, self-harm, intellectualizing, perfectionism, etc. This helps us soothe, distract, and numb from feelings of shame, guilt, anger and fear. Still, our unprocessed emotions can overwhelm–morphing into anxiety, depression, rage, dissociation, or hyper-vigilance. However, this only represents a part of us and our experiences. We contain creativity, empathy, resilience, & intuition. Through our strengths, we increase our tolerance, release survival skills that no longer serve us, and return to our most liberated and aligned self. I specialize in addiction, anxiety, trauma, marriage counseling, and depression. I am also trained in Brainspotting, a trauma treatment, which involves less invasive talk therapy & quicker response times for healing, when compared to EMDR. For marriage & couples counseling, I am trained in the Gottman Method. We all have an innate and intuitive ability to heal and transform, yet healing is not a destination. Rather, it is a continual process that we may deviate from and rediscover repeatedly throughout our lifetime. I am here to sit with you in your pain, your recovery, your joy and everywhere in between. Please reach out. You are worthy of support.

Hi, I’m Rithy (pronounced as ‘Rit-Tea’). As an openly proud gay man and a first- generation Asian American (Cambodian & Hmong), I deeply recognize how mental health is woven into our identity, culture, and sense of belonging. My own journey has shown me how identity can sometimes act as a barrier to accessing therapy, whether due to stigma, cultural expectations, or a lack of representation in the field. My passion for mental wellness is rooted in the belief that people are the experts in themselves, and therapy should honor their wisdom, strengths, and lived experiences. With over six years of experience in health and human services, I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community, Autistic and otherwise neurodivergent individuals, and people from diverse socioeconomic, educational, and intersectional identities. I help clients navigate stress, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and relationship challenges. Above all, I’m committed to creating a safe, compassionate, and affirming space where people can show up fully as themselves. My intention is to meet you where you are in your mental wellness journey and build on your strengths. Together, we will create meaningful change at a pace and capacity that feels right for you. I believe healing happens in a space where you feel truly seen, heard, and valued. With that in mind, I take a holistic, person-centered approach, promoting an affirming and supportive atmosphere-especially for those exploring LGBTOIA+ identity, relationships, anxiety, and life transitions. I tailor therapy sessions to your unique needs, using modalities like Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Mindfulness, and Psychoeducation. I also use the Gottman Method to help couples strengthen their connection, improve communication, and navigate conflict with compassion. My approach is affirming and tailored to honor the unique dynamics and identities within each relationship
