Just imagine a life where you are thriving, joyful, and heading down the right path. I will get you there! I use an integrative approach to therapy, pulling from evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, solution focused therapy, & Trauma-Focused CBT to create individualized treatment plans that address each patient's concerns and ultimately reduce emotional suffering. With over 10 years experience, you have come to the right place! My approach focuses on helping people understand the root of their issues and patterns in their lives. Together we will collaborate to radically accept, grow from, and manage your experiences while creating a life where you are flourishing.
When clients first come to see me, many mention previous negative experiences with psychotherapy. Complaints often are about therapists being “unresponsive,” “too clinical,” or even “silent.” People come looking for a connection—a relationship in which they can feel safe to be vulnerable, to speak difficult truth, to reveal pain, and to find possibilities. I believe that this solid connection between therapist and client is a prerequisite for significant healing and growth in any therapy process. My professional commitments include: ongoing development of my clinical skills and competence; openness to regular feedback from clients about what they need and how they experience me so that we can maintain a strong therapeutic alliance; efforts to examine myself honestly and to address my own healing so that my needs will not interfere with my clients’ best interest; respect for all individuals and refusal to discriminate based on race, ethnicity, gender, spiritual/religious affiliation, or sexual orientation. I live in Towson, Maryland with my two daughters and Golden Doodle pup, Chase. Chase joins me at work and loves to lie on or near clients’ feet. As a licensed psychologist, I help individuals and couples like you who are facing difficult life transitions and changes, have experienced trauma or loss, or are dealing with psychiatric illnesses, such as depression and anxiety. Because I understand how hard it can be to ask for assistance, I respond to all email and voicemail messages in a timely manner to make this first step toward growth and healing easier. Please note, I tend to respond email more quickly than voicemail messages. My approach to therapy often focuses on what gets in the way of (1) maintaining authentic social relationships and (2) managing complex feelings. Many people seem to struggle with being fully known by others, which often starts with more fully knowing yourself. I use a socioculturally and emotionally attuned frame to help people gain insight into how their past has impacted their current struggles. Specifically, I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, OCD, relationship concerns, grief/loss, family of origin/attachment issues, life transitions, and cultural identity development. I use a treatment approach that integrates psychodynamic, metacognitive/ACT, interpersonal process, and existential therapies using a multicultural lens. I also have advanced training in group psychotherapy, ERP and I-CBT for OCD, DBT for crisis stabilization, and narrative reprocessing therapy for trauma. I provide in-person therapy in Baltimore, MD and virtual therapy in MD and in 43+ PSYPACT states, including D.C. I invite you to contact me to see if we would be a good fit and wish you well.
My goal is to understand what has caused you suffering and to support you in feeling better. One way that I think about what "feeling better" means is to help you literally become better at feeling – better at discerning, accepting, and directing your own feelings. This self understanding can be life changing in facing the human task of surviving everything from everyday to extreme struggles. Shame is commonly the biggest barrier to finding support to resolve our problems. Seeking resolution all alone can feel defeating and leave people feeling lost, stuck, and disconnected. Trying alone to think through difficulties over and over without a sounding board can lead to distorted mental knots. In therapy, you can let all that uncertainty out in a safe space. Without judgement or bias I will join you in sorting through and untangling the different threads at play to find clarity, relief, and new found self-understanding and strength. Sometimes picking these threads apart can feel like coming undone, and I will be there to support you through it with the full attentiveness and care you deserve. Through this process we can connect and form a deeper shared understanding of the select threads that emerge as most important to you and follow them towards your personal growth and success.
Spill the tea! It can be difficult to discuss what is truly going on in your head. It may seem like you’ve tried everything, but nothing seems to work, at least not for very long. It can be scary to reach out to a counselor because you are not sure that you can find someone that you can really connect with and help you make changes in your life. My focus is on teens, emerging adults, and adults, who struggle with anxiety, depression, interpersonal issues, and difficult life transitions. I am intensively trained in DBT and use an eclectic approach. Together, we’ll create a customized plan to get you back on track.
