Psychiatrist
Somerville, MA

I graduated from UMass Medical school and was trained in adult psychiatry at Cambridge Health Alliance, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. Prior to going to medical school I received a Masters in Teaching from Boston University and worked as a teacher. This unique background affects my approach to psychiatry. I believe that a good psychiatrist should work with you to help you learn about yourself and your mental health. I am trained in a variety of therapeutic styles including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), psychodynamic therapy, supportive therapy, and Gottman style couples/relationship therapy. During my time at CHA I worked extensively with the Gender and Sexuality Clinic to serve patients of diverse sexual and gender identities. I also co-lead a group therapy for individuals in polyamorous and non-monogamous relationships. I have taught at the American Psychiatric Association’s specialized rotation for HIV Psychiatry, including lectures on how to provide effective telepsychiatry, and I have presented at a national meeting on teaching providers how to better work with patients to prescribe medications. I am a licensed physician in Massachusetts, New York, and California. I offer in person appointments in Somerville, MA as well as secure telehealth appointments to those residing in Massachusetts, New York, and California. In addition to medication management I offer individual and relationship/couples therapy.

Growing up and moving through life brings challenges that can sometimes feel overwhelming. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience, I provide individual therapy, parent coaching, and family support. My work is grounded in the belief that healing begins in safe, trusting relationships, where clients can explore experiences, gain perspective, and discover new ways of coping and connecting. Therapy is about connection, and I believe it works best when it feels genuine and collaborative. My style is warm, approachable, and flexible—I meet you where you are and tailor our work to what feels most helpful. My goal is to help you feel understood and empowered as you navigate your journey. In sessions, you’ll have the chance to explore what’s on your mind and make sense of challenges. Together, we may uncover patterns, develop coping strategies, or find new perspectives that bring clarity and ease. 25 years as a clinical social worker has taught me that finding the right therapist is like trying on a pair of shoes. It has to be the right fit for you to start the journey of self-exploration. I believe in a strength based approach, where we not only explore the issues that brought you to therapy, but we explore how to expand the things that bring you joy and happiness. As Dr. Seuss once said, “life is a great balancing act” and he could not have been more right. My practice focuses on individual therapy for adolescents, and adults. My areas of expertise include depression, mood disorders, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, ADHD, Trauma, and transitional issues of work, relationships, etc. Client’s describe me as genuine and authentic, supportive, strength based, straight forward, and always keeping hope alive. Give me a call today for a free consultation and see if I am the right fit for your journey of self-exploration.

I am here to listen to you. I work with children, teens, and adults to support exploration of difficult issues and life changes. Often what brings someone to seek counseling, either for themselves or for their child, is being faced with a challenge they need support navigating and resolving. This issue may result from an atypical experience or be more pervasive, and can bring about feelings of anger, depression, anxiety, low self-worth, or communication issues. Taking the risk to ask for help is the first step on the road toward healing and growth.

From a young age, I’ve always been curious about people and their experiences. I’ve always felt naturally connected to others and interested in understanding what people think, feel, and experience. After having both positive and negative experiences with therapists in high school, I became confident that this was what I wanted to do—and what I felt called to do. I will be fully present with you and actively listen to what you’re sharing, while asking clarifying questions when needed. I may reflect back or summarize what I’m hearing and check in to see if I’m understanding you accurately or if there’s something I’ve missed. I also want to learn directly from you: What helps you feel heard and understood? What tends to make you feel misunderstood? And how might I recognize that you’re feeling misunderstood, even if you don’t say so directly? I want to understand what that looks like for you specifically. I see therapy as a collaborative process. I’m walking alongside you, not in front of you or above you. I may not always have all the answers, but I’m committed to working with you to figure things out. Trust and a strong therapeutic relationship take time, and I won’t rush that process or pressure you to share something before you’re ready. I’ll consider your individual experiences, preferences, interests, and what feels comfortable for you. Most importantly, I believe trust comes from consistency—doing what I say I’ll do, keeping my commitments, and if I make a mistake, acknowledging it, apologizing, and working with you to repair it. I’m a big animal lover, and I always enjoy hearing about clients’ pets and the impact they have on each other’s lives.

Starting or continuing college can be exciting, overwhelming, and everything in between. Whether you’re navigating new independence, academic pressures, identity exploration, or unexpected challenges, it’s a lot to hold on your own. For years, I’ve supported my community in a variety of settings—from community clinics to crisis counseling—and I understand how life transitions can impact mental health. I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ students and those experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and major life changes. My time as a 911 crisis counselor especially taught me how to hold space during some of life’s most difficult moments. In my practice, you’ll find a safe, nonjudgmental environment where your story matters. I use a mix of evidence-based approaches, tailored to your unique needs, all grounded in a humanistic framework that values self-exploration, growth, and discovering your full potential. Together, we can work on building insight, breaking unhelpful patterns, and creating new ways forward—so you leave each session feeling more grounded, confident, and ready for what’s next.

In our first session together, I also welcome you to my real or virtual office and I invite you to make it your own safe space. I explain that therapy is a process, a relationship, and an adventure. It's also a gift of discovery and renewal that only you can give to yourself, especially in our challenging days. In this process, my role is to listen, to support, to challenge, to guide, and to celebrate you as you are becoming more courageous to face the parts of yourself you were avoiding, more accepting of yourself and of others, and fully present in your life. For over 25 years, I have practiced psychotherapy with people from all walks of life. My approach evolves as your process deepens and your needs change. As an ordained minister, I also have training and formation in spiritual direction and I can help you explore spiritual and faith concerns as part of the therapy process. I believe we are created with a tremendous capacity for good and we are given inner resources to overcome the gravest difficulties. This faith renews my love for my work and my strength as a therapist. I feel the greatest joy when I witness people's healing from emotional pain as they are making peace with the past and with the challenges of the present.

I have worked with those struggling with anxiety and depression for over 5 years. I pull from an eclectic approach with skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and an orientation aligned with Internal Family Systems, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing. I lead with compassion and curiosity as we uncover patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in your life and build intention around creating patterns that feel effective for you. I individualize my treatment and goals to you and your circumstances and empower you to be in the driver’s seat of your life – not fear, nor hopelessness, anxiety, resentment. I’m so proud of you already and can’t wait to meet you and all of your experiences.
