Virginia Smithson, LCSW-R
If you’re looking for a fellow traveler to walk alongside you through life’s challenges, I am here to support you. Whether you are new to therapy, or therapy is familiar to you, you deserve a space where your whole story is heard and valued. I specialize in working with people who have often felt like the odd person out— like they are navigating worlds that weren’t built for them. Individuals carrying the weight of difficult family dynamics or persistent criticism; or moving through identity shifts or life transitions that leave them unsure of who they are becoming. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone— and you’re not broken.
My approach is active and collaborative because sitting and listening isn't enough to foster meaningful insight. I integrate Psychodynamic psychotherapy & Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) with a focus on the therapeutic relationship as a catalyst for healing. I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) & sensory calming techniques to settle your nervous system.
From the first session our work will feel like a conversation. I am interested in you & learning about the rhythms of your life. We'll talk about your sleep, stress, what and who matters to you, as well as the challenges you're facing. We'll also talk about your history and how it has informed your sense of self. You have the space to decide if we're a fit.
