Virginia Laney

Clinical Social Work/Therapist, M.S., LCPC, NCC
Last Updated 30+ days ago

Hi! I'm Virginia (she/hers). I work exclusively with college-aged and young adults, focusing on identity, attachment, and trauma recovery. My specialities are adoption, from the perspective of an adoptee, and LGBTQ2S+ affirming therapy.

As young adults, we experience a lot of transition, self-doubt, anxiety, independence from our family system, and a desire to evolve our coping strategies. I love exploring identity; working with you to integrate all the parts of your authentic self into a feeling of being fully "you" every day.

I work with adoptees, blending my perspective as an adopted person with my clinical background in neurobiological and attachment science, to assist you in unpacking the fog, preverbal trauma, identity and strengthening your sense of self, the duality of adoptive & biological families, and understanding adoption-specific trauma responses.

How we view ourselves (and the lens we may have learned to look through in early experiences) determines how we interact with others, who we choose to partner with, and what interests we pursue in career development. I work on relational/response patterns you feel stuck in, building trust and confidence in your own decision-making, resolving sources of stress and anxiety, and I'm just generally dedicated to *raising up your self-worth*.

My therapeutic focus is integrative and trauma-informed -- I understand that traditional models of counseling aren't helpful or affirming to every client. I draw on attachment, ACEs, internal family systems, neuroscience, but mainly, I center my client's lived experience.

My clinical background includes LGBTQ+ resource centers, community mental health, nature-based retreats, and I am dedicate to ongoing advocacy work, alongside community organizations and national legal rights activists for young LGBTQ2S+ and adopted adults.

I currently have morning and afternoon openings to work with your class and work schedules. I mainly offer virtual sessions ongoing, but also have a downtown office on Main St for those who prefer in-person work. Please contact me via email or visit the booking page on my website to schedule a free consultation!
