Samantha Johnson
Hello! I’m a therapist in private practice, and I work best with students and young adults who feel like they’re carrying a lot on the inside while trying to keep up on the outside. Many of the clients who are a great fit for my practice are navigating anxiety, low mood, self-esteem struggles, emotional dysregulation, grief and loss, the impact of past painful experiences, and major life transitions (starting college, changing majors, moving away from home, new relationships). If you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or like you “should be doing better” but can’t seem to turn it around, you’re not alone.
Students often reach out when they’re:
• Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or constantly “on edge.”
• Stuck in overthinking, perfectionism, or procrastination
• Feeling down, numb, unmotivated, or like it’s hard to care about things you used to enjoy
• Burned out from juggling school, work, family, or big life changes
• Struggling with confidence, self-worth, or a harsh inner critic
• Having trouble with relationships, boundaries, or communication
• Trying to heal after a painful experience, or coping with grief and loss
In our sessions, we’ll slow things down and make sense of what you’re feeling, what’s been happening, and what you want to change. My approach is flexible based on your needs, but I often use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), which helps you notice unhelpful thought patterns, understand how they affect your feelings and choices, and practice new ways of coping that fit your life. We’ll set clear goals, build practical skills you can use between sessions, and we’ll move at a pace that feels safe, especially if you’re working through trauma or loss. My style is warm, straightforward, and collaborative. You don’t need to know what to say or have a “perfect” reason to start therapy.
If you’re looking for a space that feels supportive and real, where you can be honest, get tools that help, and feel more like yourself, I’d be glad to connect. We can start with what’s most urgent and go at a pace that feels manageable.
