Welcome, I'm Ebonie a trained trauma and EMDR therapist. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It’s a type of therapy that helps people heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. If something painful from your past still feels very present—like it gets triggered easily, shows up in your body, or keeps looping in your mind—EMDR can help you process it in a way that actually sticks.
Here’s how it works: We identify a memory or experience that’s still affecting you. Then, while you think about it, we use a tool called bilateral stimulation—usually eye movements, tapping, or sound that goes back and forth from left to right. This isn’t hypnosis, and you’re always in control. What the bilateral stimulation does is help your brain reprocess the memory—so instead of feeling stuck in it, you start to see it in a more grounded, less distressing way.
The goal isn’t to forget what happened. It’s to change the way it lives in your nervous system. After EMDR, many people find that the memory no longer triggers the same emotional or physical reaction. You’ll still remember it, but it won’t feel like it’s running the show anymore.
EMDR is evidence-based, meaning research supports its effectiveness—especially for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and more. It can move things forward in a way that talk therapy alone sometimes doesn’t.
We’ll always go at your pace, with safety and trust as the priority. If you’re curious or unsure, that’s okay. We’ll talk it through, and I’ll guide you step by step.
Best wishes,
Ebonie Brown, LCSW
