Richard Wampler, LMFT, Ph.D. GPS Guide to Personal Solutions
I am a licensed Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist in Michigan. I like working with all kinds of clients. I am particularly interested in working with clients with problems with communication, changing relationships, and behavior issues.
I have a 30+ year history as a therapist, supervisor, and teacher. During those years, I worked in settings serving a wide variety of clients. In private practice, I served children, couples, and individual adults. In the community, I developed staff and funding for programs for high-risk children and adults with delinquent and substance abuse offenses. As Clinic Director, I oversaw the agency's operations and funding, trained and supervised staff and therapists, and saw clients.
My approach to therapy changes with the client's needs and therapy setting. My preference is to focus on solving problems. That is, asking what needs to be different in the client's experiences. A client-focused approach strongly influences me. I listen carefully to understand what is going on in clients' lives. I try not to push for my solutions but accept that the clients have come seeking insight for solutions. I can be most helpful in helping them find solutions that work for them.
