Getting to know you and establish a strong working relationship is the foundation of my work. I believe the therapy relationship is the most important factor in positive outcomes. My approach is strengths based and trauma informed. I believe stressors and trauma underlies many of the issues that bring someone into therapy including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, problematic substance use and more. Sessions often include education about the adverse effects of trauma including A.C.E. (Adverse Childhood Experiences), complex trauma, developmental trauma, and vicarious trauma based on the work of Dr. Gabor Mate, Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk, Dr. Bruce Perry, and Dr. Nadine Burke Harris. I use bibliotherapy (assigning relevant articles, books, and worksheets for homework), communication and reframing strategies to help people make sense of the impacts of stressful or traumatic experiences and interventions that include guided imagery, mindfulness, and various ryhthmic exercises to help reconnect our body and mind; to recover our natural rhythm. I work collaboratively to create a unique therapy for every client, drawing on cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, narrative, and psychodynamic approaches. I enjoy incorporating music, art, and humor in therapy. When it is appropriate, I will work hard with shared providers including case managers, primary care, and psychiatric providers to coordinate your care.
