Hello, I'm Rebecca Taylor, a Licensed Psychologist in private practice in Pittsburgh. I have over 15 years of experience working with students at the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon, Duquesne, and Purdue University. I am currently providing teletherapy only.
I enjoy working with graduate and non-traditional students who:
-- are going through life transitions, like starting graduate school or preparing for what comes after graduation.
-- want support for decision-making around career/academic focus
-- want to figure out how to have healthy, satisfying relationships with family, friends, and/or a partner.
-- are interested in interfaith/interracial dialog, the acculturation process, and multicultural concerns.
-- cope with a health problem, disability, or a body-focused repetitive behavior (like skin picking, hair pulling, or other BFRB).
-- are learning intuitive eating and ways to care for their physical bodies.
-- want support for grief and loss.
-- feel anxious, depressed, or stressed out.
-- have panic and/or anxiety symptoms.
Rather than using one therapy approach exclusively, I integrate many approaches and tools. This allows me to customize therapy to each client’s background, needs, strengths, and preferences. I work collaboratively with my clients to set and reach their goals. I believe in creating a compassionate and respectful therapeutic relationship that is founded in honesty. My focus is on increasing a client’s awareness of interpersonal dynamics and the diverse cultural factors that contribute to relational patterns.
I see the therapeutic relationship as a place for clients to gain insight and to try out new behaviors. I invite clients to use mindfulness and self-compassion as part of the process of experimenting with making changes. I encourage the use of expressive therapies to support clients in their experiments. I notice how my clients’ bodies provide information about their symptoms and possibilities for symptom relief. I also help my clients be holistically aware of themselves and increase their self-compassion.
One of the things that makes me characterizes my work as a psychologist is that I am also a National Board Certified Occupational Therapist (OT) and maintain my OT license in Indiana. I know first-hand what it takes to go back to school and change careers. I previously worked as a mental health occupational therapist and as an expressive therapist. My OT background and my advanced training in Gestalt therapy inform my attention to the whole person in my work as a psychologist.
I would like to offer you a free phone consultation so that we can determine if we are a good therapeutic match. You can contact me by phone or email to set up a time to speak. I make every effort to protect your privacy. Therefore, please let me know if I can identify myself as “Rebecca” and if it is okay to leave a voicemail if necessary.
